  1.

I was gonna try and say hi to you at HEB, but you all looked pretty serious and I didn't know if you were allowed to or not. You guys sat right below us during the finals results. Great job, by the way

Thanks a lot! Always means a lot when people like our show, which is why we do what we do! We’re allowed to say thank you when people say good job or congrats during band competition. But after wards, we can go socialize for a bit. I was sitting on the top row of our band. Came up with a group of 5 of us to join the rest of the band.

  2. That's really cool! Y'all have such a great program! One of the assistant directors at one of our feeder middle schools is a trombone player from Marcus who just so happened to go to the college that I want to go to. I also met one of your former drum majors. Both of them are really nice people!

Thanks! Means a lot! Yeah, we’re all super hyped for this year. Maybe one competition (if we have one together) we can meet in person!

  3. If I may ask, who are you talking about? I don't remember anyone calling out their band director. If you are speaking metaphorically, then never mind - I completely understand what you mean.

It looks like they took down their post or a mod did.

  4. I don't know if you are allowed to say, but what school do you go to?

I try to be respectful anyways. It's just how I was raised. Sometimes things don't come across the right way no matter how hard you try though, both physically and digitally. That's where my constant apologizing comes from in some of my posts. An example would be the post that I just made in the US Bands Yamaha Cup thread. I had some doubt that what I wanted to say would come across the right way, so I over emphasized the fact that I was NOT trying to make anybody mad or meant anything wrong.

My band directors aren't as strict about that stuff. In fact, we aren't very secretive at all. Its pretty easy to find videos of our program in the last few years on the internet.

I can say which band I’m part of, I just can’t say anything about the show or what we do.

    I’m from Marcus H.S.

  5. You're right and I'm sorry about that!  :(

Can’t really do anything about it. Still interesting to see the parents opinions vs the performer opinions. I know personally it’s way different to preform the show than to watch it from the audience stand point, I do miss that aspect of marching band.

  6. Based on past results and trends I feel like this contest generally favors cleanliness to difficulty and the judging is not at all indicative of BOA results.

I think the top five will be Keller, Marcus, Prosper, Waxahachie, and Wakeland in any order really. All of these bands are returning top 5 finishers from last year so I think they should have continued success. And after Waxahachie’s incredibly successful first UIL 6A season last year, I think the judges should really love them.

    Thoughts in random order:

Marcus: I honestly have no clue what Marcus could be up to this year but after winning the HEB Drumline contest, they surely should have a great showing here. It’s not really a surprise that Marcus won the drumline contest because as far as I know, they kept their fantastic percussion director through the traditions they made last year. I think Marcus should easily take the percussion and color guard captions.

Prosper: There has been some talk about staff changes that may effect them but they always seem to do extremely well at this competition so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. I haven’t seen their show so I don’t have much to go off of.

Waxahachie: They are easily one of the most UIL friendly bands in Texas. They remind me of how Keller was a few years ago. I fully expect them to do very well here as the judging tends to be more similar to UIL. They have a history of very strong music performances and could be a strong contender for the music caption or even win the whole thing.

Wakeland: They are incredibly consistent and usually give very strong early visual performances. I haven’t seen their show but they are always very strong.

Keller: I am biased so I will try to be objective and make my opinions obvious. They are taking a ton of risks visually this year. The pit setup is completely different to what they’ve ever done and there is SO MUCH drill in-front of the front side line. It definitely adds a lot of difficulty and an interesting performance aspect in my opinion. The music, especially in the brass, is more difficult than anything they have done before. I also love how they are injecting a ton of “Keller” personality into the show. You can see their logo in the drill and on a prop and the subtle “K” on the guard costume. It reminds me of the “W” set that The Woodlands does. also reminds me of how Marcus would hide their logo in props and stuff.

We just got to wait and see what happens. I just know you don’t want to miss these shows. We have all been working really hard and can’t wait to put on fantastic shows!
