  1. With Denison's 2, Area B can only afford one more 2 in order to have 4 bands go to state, correct?
  2. So happy to read Wakeland's show was appreciated. That's awesome!
  3. I don't think there were ever any plans for Frisco schools to attend, but UIL Region is October 20th so they definitely won't be attending. I haven't worked on the field so I don't have any first hand knowledge, but I have heard from others that The Star is terrible for marching band setup, getting on and off the field, warming up, etc. Of course the rain last year during the Frisco ISD Marching Exhibition made everything worse. Wet uniforms, plumes, props, etc.
  4. I don't know a lot about color guard either, but what I do know is that without them, our marching show would have suffered. When they are purposefully incorporated in the show and move around with the band, they really add a lot of visual eye candy and often times bring the whole show together. Speaking as a band mom, I am very thankful for what the color guard adds to the show.
  5. ***Wakeland parent here so completely biased opinion and thoughts on the 5A competition. I thought all the bands were great. It was fun to have a few first timer bands in finals. All the band kids were very supportive and cheered them on. Band kids rock! The judges scores and UIL scoring in general can be quite frustrating. A band receiving a 1 and 10 on the same performance seems crazy. I know that's just the way it is, but man............frustrating none the less. Cedar Park and Dripping Springs were both well deserving of first and second place. Both shows sounded great, looked clean, and were fun to watch. I never would have imagined there would have been three shows in finals to have a bride. That was pretty interesting. Poteet started their show and Wakeland ended their show with Elsa's Procession. Poteet's show surprised me. I had to make a few adjustments to my predictions once I saw their show and add them to who I thought would make finals. Glad I did. They were great. It stinks to lose a place (or medal in this case) due to judges choice, but because I really respect Waxahachie and like their program, that took some of the sting away. They are a great band. Wakeland's run at BOA on Saturday was definitely not up to the quality in which they were capable of. They were over thinking everything and performed nervously. I was so happy with their performance for prelims, much better than their BOA performance. But their finals performance was absolutely awesome! They looked great and performed with so much more confidence. They truly left it all out on the field as they should have. So so so proud of them!!!
  6. There was a tie between Frisco Centennial and Southwest for the Area Competition for the 4th spot going to State, but TX_Band was saying that if Area B had one more band score a 1 at the Region competition bringing the total number of bands to 25 instead of 24 for Area B, then 5 bands would have been able to go to State instead of 4 and that also would have brought the total number of bands to 36 for the State competition therefore 12 bands would have been in finals instead of 10. Region 24 had 10 out of 10 get a 1, Region 25 had 5 out of 5 get a 1, but Region 5 only had 9 out of 16 bands get a score of 1 at the Region competition. I think it was a rough year in Fort Worth.
