Part of it is the fact that results change from prelims to finals, too. While finals results should have more clout, I think its possible that certain bands are comparable such that one would beat the other 8/10 times but based on different judges opinions might lose out on the one time that matters.

I dont think the rankings will exactly mirror the standings at this competition. For instance, I don't think Leander will be as far as a 14th place finish would make them seem because their other results are consistent with more along a 10th place. Bands that are going to GNats probably wony fall quite as hard as it woulf seem either, so while the woodlands and round rock for instance will definitely fall, I dont think RR will fall out. Haltom probably wont move up with Cedar Ridge since their show finished last week. Cedar Ridge improving and having a great perfomance this week doesnt translate to haltom necessarily being better last week. I think they are safe in the 25-30 range. Pearland will likely join the next 10 which is cool and maybe dripping springs might make it to the next 10? I suppose I could just make up my predictions for what will happen and post them.

I know that there are a few people from Avon who have been following this thread. I just want to reach out to you and vicariously to the Avon Black and Gold and say what an honor it is that you came and joined us this weekend. Looking at your past BOA results I realized that it has been many years since you have missed out on a medal at any event, and I hope that this doesn't discourage you. Your show is fantastic and I am certain will be right at the top at grand nationals. I hope you enjoyed your time in Texas. I would also like to say thank you for what you have done to improve the nature of marching band in our state. Simply by coming this year, you fostered an environment of competitiveness that has pushed our "bubble bands" to improve in vast measures to keep up. In addition, you have given some of our good bands that aren't quite ready to make the trip or that don't have the funding to go to grand nationals the chance to see a truly phenomenal visual program which is rare to witness here. I hope that the band and all associated parties have safe travels home and I can't wait to see what you accomplish next week!

My guesses for top 30 and the actual results using finals for top 14 and prelims for everyone else: 1. Flower Mound (6) 2. Claudia Taylor Johnson (1) 3. Hebron (2) 4. Avon (4) 5. The Woodlands (11) 6. Marcus (7) 7. Vandegrift (3) 8. Ronald Reagan (5) 9. Leander (14) 10. L.D. Bell (15) 11. James Bowie (13) 12. Round Rock (18) 13. Keller (9) 14. Hendrickson (10) ------------- 15. Cedar Park (8) 16. Winston Churchill (21) 17. Cedar Ridge (12) 18. Vista Ridge (16) 19. Wakeland (29) 20. Cy- Fair (20) 21. Coppell (25) 22. Keller Central (33) 23. Pearland (17) 24. Clear Brook (27) 25. Timber Creek (24) 26. James Martin (39) 27. Westwood (19) 28. Wylie (22) 29. Friendswood (28) 30. Seven Lakes (23) I had the top 30 guessed correctly except for putting Keller Central and James Martin in over Oak Ridge and Plano East.

I decided to check youtube and found videos of a few of the performances on there. I watched Timber Creek and Bowie so far. I am so proud of TC, I think they have made a really great show this year and I hope they continue to improve like they have been. I dont know a lot about the technical side of marching band, as I never was in it myself, but I thought that james Bowie's show was so refreshing and one of the rare pieces of art that we sometimes get the priviledge of seeing. Ive seen some comments that their sound and look is different from most of the other top texas bands, but maybe that is what I like about them this year? I dont know. I think it has more to do with the way they present their show. So many bands take dramatic topics and turn them into intense dramatic performances and it works really well, but it is so cool to see a group take such a simple topic and use drama to make it resonate equally as much. It reminded me (as I think it was supposed to) of surrealist paintings that are so simple and mysterious and somewhat abrasive but make you just want to stop and stare at them for minutes and minutes and reflect on life. I will stop my little spiel now, but lets just say that I liked them and I hope they get to perform again tonight.

Fast food is junk, no matter how its branded. Yuck! On a related note, I would love for those in attendance or watchimg the live stream to share their opinions on standout groups/ impressive surprises/ disappointments/ etc. The live blog is nice, but its hard to actually get a good feel for how good each band does because they make an effort to be positive and encouraging for all of the bands. Since I can neither afford a Flo marching subscription, nor would I have time to watch if I could, I would love your feedback and the ability to feel included.
