  1. Certain bands have UIL based shows and others have BOA type shows. A lot of bands will be competing in the BOA San Antonio Super Regional and then later this week compete in the 6A state competition. Will the style of their show cause them to place more favorably at one or the other contest?
  2. I wonder if there will be any shakeups in the placements that people aren’t expecting
  3. Very nice Dan, are you going to do one for 6A State as well?
  4. There’s a nice video of our prelims run that someone posted, it’ll probably be taken down soon:
  5. I doubt there would be points deducted but this is usually a question for the band director him/herself. I know there are a few gopro videos from BOA finals last year
  6. Will there be a predictions list for state
  7. Austin is having a harder time cleaning their harder drill but I’m sure it’ll be fine by next week. I do think theyre less solid than in 2016 however
  8. Broken Arrow was a step ahead last year
  9. I hope this doesn’t impact anything next week
  10. This week is all cleaning and all perfecting and standardizing visuals
  11. It means a lot to hear this, thank you for your opinion! I saw pearlands show and thought it was very close between us. Objectively they were pretty clean visually and had a pretty and resonant sound.
  12. The contrary 1st to 8th I believe
  13. I thought the show was great, though I preferred the concept last year.
  14. Interesting to note that Judge 5 in finals was a former director at Pearland HS
  15. We're actually larger than we've been in a while. Two big freshmen classes the past two years have caused that. Over half of the band is freshmen/sophomore.
  16. Gotcha, we’ll work on that this week
  17. Thanks for your input! Time will tell. What is our hinderance to higher placements would you say?
  18. Seeing as 4/5 judges had Clements solidly above Pearland, would you consider us in contention as well?
  19. Thank you! Means a lot! We’ll spend this week cleaning everything so much so we can be even more undeniable at state!
  20. Both prelims and finals were unexpected..
  21. Did they have good runs in prelims I wonder?
  22. You’re as shocked as we were... From what I saw of the bands in finals are as follows: Clear Lake: I thought they marched quite clean drill and sounded pretty good. They were a smaller band so they didn’t produce as much sound as the larger bands did but they sounded solid and marched well. Clear Brook: I really like their show. The music and visuals fit together very well and the theme was incredibly consistent throughout. Their sound wasn’t as rich as the upper groups which caused them to miss out. Brazoswood: One of the most fun shows last night. Danzón no.2 was played very well and their music was probably the hardest music played last night. The horn solo was good other than a crack or 2. Pearland: I didn’t like this show as much as I liked last year’s Ghost Train but they marched and played it well. Their tone was very rich and pure. A lot of ripples in this show that were quite pleasing to the eye. Dawson: Dawson is huge this year! They produce a big sound, but the members don’t all sound the same. Their drill wasn’t super clean, especially diagonals, but their visuals seemed pretty consistent. Austin: Their drill when it was on the grid was pretty darn clean but their curvilinears had noticeable spacing issues. Their sound isn’t as refined as in previous years but they’re louder this year. All in all, great performances in finals last night!
