2018 6A State
A Testing Trumpet replied to Magma31651's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
After placing 26th place at BOA San Antonio, It would be a lie to say I wasn't concerned for Round Rock. Yet here they are, 13th place at UIL State Prelims. I can tell that they gave it every single ounce they had, and I am so proud of them tonight. At the exact same time, I am feeling furious at UIL for the one judge that had them so far out of finals. They have been through one heck of a season this year, and they deserve to know that at the end, at this one last performance, they proved that they still have it them to kick some major butt. Great Job!!! -

Wowie. Lots of heated arguments today. I just want to remind everyone that we all just want to our kids to succeed first and foremost, even if our ideas differ on what was or should be done; nobody is saying these things to purposely bring others down. We are all imperfect people, and we will make mistakes. Just remember that the only way to really influence another's opinion is by considering where they come from, and if you don't understand it and it bothers you, ask them why they think that. We need to help each other out, because just like a marching show we each have different voices that must listen down to the other voices to balance our own sounds and create a product bigger than ourselves. I know that sounds a bit cheesy, but I think we need to be reminded of this. -

It also saddens be greatly to say, but I think the benefits of waiting a year to restructure may be for the better, and may cause them to cancel plans for GN's next year. I can't say what they will decide as I'm not apart of the band anymore but it is something I'm sure they will think very hard about. -

JB made the show but I can confirm he had left RR before the season began to my knowledge. I'm guessing they used the new techs to replace him, but I cannot confirm that portion. -

I think this result, more than ever, tells Round Rock that they need figure out how all these new bands surpassed them and learn from that. I know this might sound harsh, but if they desire to climb back up they simply cannot rely on the same techniques they have been using. It's true that they have changed some things design wise, but something is still missing and I hope they can figure out what it is. Regardless of this result, I am still very proud that they advanced to State and I hope this fires them up to do well there. I apologize if this offends anyone, but simply put, this result is a testament that they are still very similar to 2011-2017 RR, and they need to change even more if they hope to make finals at the SA's and GN's of the future. Some tough love but I'm saying this because I know they have it in them to improve. Good Luck! -

As sad as it is to see Cedar Park, James Bowie, Round Rock, Timber Creek, Seven Lakes, Oak Ridge, Pearland, Winston Churchill, Haltom, Westwood, Coppell, Hays, and Prosper out of finals, I cannot say that it is anything surprising given how much the regional has become a monster. There is nothing to be ashamed of in not making Finals. What matters is if you gave it your all on the field, and if you did that; then you have nothing to feel but pride in your own performance. -
