  1. That sounds like me from last year. Now I just play alto sax all year round. I miss my trumpet. D:
  2. It always bugs me when people don't care. A lot of those people have quit band this year, so I guess I'm grateful for that. I have to agree with the constant put-downs during practice being annoying. It really irks me when I'm frustrating myself to make sure I can get to my setpoints right while getting around someone who is marching too far back (and inmy way, somehow), and when I don't make my mid set spots, two people in my section in the line behind me yell at me. The crazy thing is, I have plenty of complaints I could make about their marching in other parts of the show, but I'd rather them figure it out themselves instead of getting defensive and/or "bitchy" at me. -.- (Please excuse the word in the last sentence.)
  3. I've got a little personal tweaking I need to make in my drill transitions, but other than that, I think I'm ready for BOA this year. In a couple days, I'm sure the new tasks being thrown into the show this week will make the band more ready as well. :3
  4. I'm excited as well. This is my first and last chance to go to state, and I'm working toward doing well. :3 I hope to see ya there!
  5. I remember seeing you guys in the stands; my band was sitting on the other side of the steps. I never got to see your show when we went to BOA Arlington, but from the review I heard good things. I'm anticipating being able to see it sometime this season. As for band etiquette, our band is not allowed to cheer when our name is called for participation, just clap. And if we do cheer, it's for making finals. Even then, the cheering is not supposed to be screaming at all. While bands are performing, we are expected to be silent, and any talking has to be about half a whisper if we don't want a director catching it. At least that's how I see it. We are also allowed to clap at the end of the show/songs/solos like a regular audience.
  6. This year, the shows that really caught my eyes are L.D. Bell and Haltom. Blame the part of me that loves the thrill of scary movies and my connection to Yin/Yang balance through tai chi with my mom. Marcus is high up there, too. I feel if I watch it too many times between now and San Antonio I'm going to get sick of it, though. Even with new things added in.
  7. I have to say, I'm very impressed with a lot of the bands I saw yesterday. I recall being in the stands watching finals and thinking I wanted to be a part of some others shows that were performing. (L. D. Bell and Haltom both had shows that peaked my interest especially, but I do believe that the bo staff - from Haltom's show - could have been handled better in the hands of one of my friends) It was also very surprising to hear The Woodlands band play music my band played last year in a different variation.... Not to mention the Coppell drum majors made me impressed that they could move their arms conducting like that. Have to respect their technique; I know for eight to eleven minutes straight conducting with such big movements would probably kill me. Then again, I am beyond grateful for the show and band I am a part of right now. My upperclassmen and I had an amazing feeling after performing, and my little sister was bawling from her performance in finals. Though, realistically speaking, our band has a lot of polishing up to do with our marching in the final stage and music all around to be ready for next week.
  8. Gee, Stephen, glad you could find a plug for yourself. By the way, that's one of my favorite youtube videos... *back on topic* I'm glad this was put here. I missed watching the Ducanville football game halftime after performing in that. ; pianomusicman89: From what I can tell, the Hebron show probably seems more complicated because we are one of the smaller bands in the 5a division. On the other hand, I've noticed we, of the Hebron band, seem to have a tendency to work on difficult drill moves with visuals original to our band. Fortisimo: I think most of the grace notes and trills have been taken out because this is Hebron's first year as a 5a band, or that there isn't enough time in the show to add those in. Another theory is that with all the complicated drill moves and visuals (that you may have yet to see; the show isn't finished yet), the music needs to be executed cleanly. Too many grace notes and trills could dirty up the sound. What you can't tell from this video is that we have five songs in our show. At this point in time, the show is far from finished. :3 ...I think I wrote too much.
  9. I'd definitely have to agree with itsstephenyo on this. It really does depend on what saxophone you've tried that you play well on. Those I must say, if you buy from the internet, be careful what you're looking at. I wouldn't suggest something called a "Sky USA." I had one, and it's not the best quality you can go for. Tuning was terrible.
