  1. I think it is so difficult to base UIL placements on BOA results, since there is a different rubric, and there's always that crazy one judge that would probably rank Flower Mound like 15th. Anyways... here's my finalist predictions (in somewhat of an order) Flower Mound Marcus Leander Hebron Woodlands Reagan Bowie Vandegrift Hendrickson Keller LD Bell Round Rock Bubble Bands that could take a spot away from one of the bottom bands Duncanville Cedar Ridge Coppell Westlake College Park
  2. Can anyone explain to me the difference between the music and visual captions, and their difference from their GE counterparts? I noticed that several bands had big discrepancies between those two counterpart areas. (Let's say a band got 18th overall in music, but then their music GE was like 45th)
  3. Best of luck to everyone today! I'm sure everyone will do great.
  4. (Won't let me change bodies to Bowie because it's an illegal edit string lol)
  5. Westwood and Anderson (first two bands to perform) had solid performances, should be in finals. Bowies show was stunning, I wouldn't be surprised if the took straight 1s. Hendrickson had a great show as well, but I think playing right after Bowie might be negitive towards their score. Round rock and cedar ridge did geat and should be finalists. Reagan also rocked it, I could also see them getting first. Churchill hasn't gone as of yet. New Braunfels and Pflugerville had solid runs (I think...?), but definitely bubble bands. Just my non judge observation opinion :-)
  6. I think the top 4 (state advancers) will be Vandegrift Leander Vista Ridge Westlake I think the next three will be Lake Travis Judson Wagner The last 3 in finals will a free for all between bands such as Brandeis Stevens O'Connor etc
  7. Congrats to Dripping Springs who certainly had a big rebound after their rather low BOA Austin rankings (15th)
  8. My top 6 rankings 1) Woodlands 2) College Park (This band has improved so much recently!) 3) Oak Ridge 4) Pearland 5) Klein 6) Spring (Used to be a mega powerhouse in the 80s-00s, I personally think their lower placements recently is a combination of a changing student body in terms of income, and a shortage of district funding) 7) Dawson
  9. Also a shame that Manor did not get 1's. I thought their show was great, color guard looked amazing!
  10. With CTJ not attending finals, I am bumping Round Rock into the locks, and moving Pflugerville up to the Upper Bubble. Now my top choice for fighting for last spot is Lehman (really impressed with them this year), and am moving McNeil to the fighting for last spot at the low end.
  11. Yes, I have seen Round Rock's show this year and it is very good. Round Rock is a contender for 1st this year (assuming no judge ranks them 27th like they did last year)
  12. Seems like Wakeland isn't having a good year. Did they get a director change?
  13. Just curious, why did they have to replace all of their directors this summer?
  14. I think that all four texas bands should make finals, despite Jenks, Owasso, Broken Arrow, Blue Spring being there. Competition at non-Texas BOA (excluding Indy and Grand Nats) aren't incredibly difficult. Judges also tend to favor Texas bands (in my opinion) at these competitions. Richland went in 2012 and got 9th Birdville went in 2012 and got 10th (LD Bell went in 2012 and got 2nd) (Anderson went in 2012 and got 5th)
  15. We won't know how many will advance until after region results, right?
  16. Here are my predictions for finalists: Locks (No order): Bowie (Looking good this year! Although with all the band directors leaving, they could not get first like in 2014. Also, every year there is one crazy judge that gives them 13th place or something but could it drag them down beneath the cutoff?) Reagan (A strong contender for taking the gold at state finals, grand nationals, let along area finals.) CTJ (Always great, and this year is not an exception.) Cedar Ridge (Didn't do so great at State prelims last year, and also got 10th at BOA Austin. But with their grand national finals past and area judges always loving what Cedar Ridge put's on, I have them as a lock) Upper Bubble (In somewhat of an order): Round Rock (Really should be a lock, but Area judges seem to hate them) Hendrickson (Went from 1st in prelims in 2014 to tying for 9th in finals. Really got ripped off) Churchill (Didn't make finals in 2014, but has made some vast improvements since then) Anderson (Pretty good this year, Anderson is often a wild card, while almost making state in 2014 but not even making finals in 2012) Westwood (Music is top notch and, musically, could be ranked top 5. Visuals/drill is lacking through [at least at BOA Austin]) Fighting for the last spot (In somewhat of an order): Pflugerville (I love Pflugerville this year! Beat Churchill in 2014 to take the last spot in finals, and could do it again (But beating out another band) Lehman (Such pretty music. Lehman got 2's at UIL Region last year, but have drastically improved) Hays (Always has been a dark horse for finals, could this be the year?) Canyon/New Braunfels (Could be an underdog for finals) Haven't really heard of New Braunfels's year, but I don't think they have ever made Area D finals, let alone beat any of my lock/bubble bands. Could be wrong, though. Edited to take out Lake Travis since they are not in Area D
  17. The thing that I found very interesting is that the bands ranked 11 to about 16 all had a couple judges placing them in the top 10, and in some cases the top 7+. I think that the varied judging shows how great texas bands (and specifically central texas bands) are. It shows that even though some bands (Westwood, Dripping Springs, and others 11-16) didn't make finals, they still have top tier bands that can "hang in there with the big guys".
  18. If you look at the map you can see some changes they've already made. For instance: They moved Lake Travis and Westlake to UIL/TMEA Region 32 from Region 18, I assume to make a new 6a region with the upcoming Leander ISD schools coming up to 6a (Vista Ridge, Cedar Park, Leander, Rouse, and Vandegrift).
  19. Keller Central is my favorite uprising band. They are just so powerful. I really hope they get a good placement in semis, even if they don't make finals.
  20. I was assuming that Hendrickson, Leander, and Dripping Springs would've made it, kicking out Keller, Wakeland, and Cedar Ridge should they have gotten to attend.
  21. Even though I'm sad that Leander, Hendrickson, and Dripping Springs didn't get to go, I'm glad that some new bands got to be in finals (because of their absence). Keller and Wakeland rocked it.
  22. I assume Hendrickson is not going to perform their exhibition due to them signed up for Usbands Austin tonight along with Anderson who dropped out last night. I wouldn't be surprised if Dripping Springs or another band that drops out won't attend US bands later tonight.
