  1. Think those are the top 6 in finals too, someone really good is gonna get left out.
  2. Area A Finalists: 6:30 - El Paso Americas 6:45 - Frenship 7:00 - El Paso El Dorado 7:15 - San Angelo Central 7:30 - Odessa Permian 7:45 - El Paso Coronado 8:00 - El Paso Franklin
  3. Since I seem to be the resident Area A guy on here... I fully expect El Paso Coronado and El Paso Americas to advance. Both have been trading off all year and are very solid, especially for up here in Area A. For the 3rd spot? Lots of bands, but I have my pick down to two. Odessa Permian got some fresh blood in the show design staff starting last year and it did spades for them design wise of course, but smart writing has really allowed them to blossom performance wise as well with something that is VERY well tailored to their talent levels. Frenship has advanced every year in either 5A (old 4A) or 6A since I can remember, so they're a favorite. Haven't seen much of them. But my picks are: El Paso Americas El Paso Coronado Odessa Permian Alternate - Frenship
  4. James Bowie isn't phased by the change, my personal favorite of theirs in awhile.
  5. Loved the design in Conroe. Wish they were attending San Antonio, would have done really well IMO. Excited to see a video at some point again.
  6. I was mainly talking about the public perception rather than the specifics necessarily. I'm very familiar with the rubrics and differences of each.
  7. Timber Creek is absolutely one to watch for, the improvement they made in one week from Conroe to Plano was nothing short of incredible. If they kept that level of improvement up they could be very good.
  8. It's not THAT out there, it's a show about strings. It's not anymore BOA/UIL friendly than anyone else honestly. I think I'm one of the few that thinks that supposed BOA/UIL mindset is disappearing. Yes, there is no GE, and there are no field judges, but that doesn't mean that Music and Visual are being judged any differently, just from the box. They're not judging style, they're not judging show design and how that lends to certain types of musical performances, they're judging how you march and play. When shows like LD Bell in 2012, Claudia Taylor Johnson in 2014, and Leander last year medal and other supposed VERY "UIL friendly" shows don't touch a medal............I think that argument starts to fall apart. Like I said, I think Martin marches very well and they're very close to breaking into that next tier musically this year. Show design or not.
  9. And I also think that Keller has a real shot at a potential top 10 placement, the show is building on last years successes pretty brilliantly. Ballad and the ending are pretty stunning.
  10. Bands that I think got cast aside because of early scores, but that I think could come back to really bite: Claudia Taylor Johnson Dripping Springs Friendswood LD Bell The Woodlands I think they all have fantastic show designs, just gonna come down to polishing them and maxing them out.
  11. Bell has a helluva show, just had some wonky music issues that day. I think visually they'll be near the top, how high they place depends on music performance.
  12. I think they'll be right around 6th, potentially knocking off one of the expected advancers. Think they are hugely improved this year. Great visual program in terms of performance and musically they are very solid as well. Very large presence. One to really watch at BOA SA as well.
  13. Claudia Taylor Johnson - Daryl Pemberton Keller - (I think) Kevin Nix
  14. Music Panel - George Boulden, Darrin Davis, Wayne Dillon, Martin Griffin, Nola Jones, Matt McCready, Chuck Naffier, Dave Orser Visual Panel - Lee Carlson, Michael Gray, Adam Sage, Robert Solomon, Jim Sturgeon, Michael Turner Chief Judge - Richard Saucedo
  15. Richland was on the list until about two weeks ago.
  16. Area A 6A went 15/15. Will advance 3 bands to state. 4A is currently at 16 bands, with 4 that still have to go. All 4 got 1s last year so 4 4As could potentially advance.
  17. I absolutely adore their show. It's my favorite of theirs in a good while. I think visually it's their best designed show in quite awhile and it's super fun musically. Performance wise I think again it's their best visual effort as well. Musically I think they just need to reign in a few hero trumpet players and they'll be good. When said high brass is blended they sound super lush and beautiful. I definitely think they have a shot at state.
  18. I think it's important to think about how we represent our schools when posting on here, on one person a program isn't made but that's all it takes for some people. Just some food for thought.
  19. Can't seem to find this region video.
  20. Fantastic set of finalists. Even if there were a few I wanted in there was no one I wanted out or I think deserved out. Loved Broken Arrow, for me that show had the life and energy I personally felt last year was lacking. Think they could have won GN again. Kevin got a VERY deserving send off! 2 bands so far this year not attending I think would have had a shot at the eagle. Broken Arrow and our Flower Mound. Two of my favorites this year.
  21. Haltom and Richland did a fantastic job. I think this might be Haltoms best visual program and performance in a long time. The color scheme is just beautiful and I love the props. They sound great too. Richland is back in case that wasn't apparent already. Such a fun and high energy show. After last year this has to feel pretty amazing. Really excited to see what they can do at state in 5A next year.
  22. Okay wow. Bentonville missing is a huge shock to me. They were pretty fantastic, I had them in the top 6. Eden Prairie was REALLY solid too. But congrats to Richland and Haltom!
  23. Shoutout to our Texas bands, thought they all did a fantastic job. I really think we'll see Richlands very entertaining and high energy show in as well as Haltoms really beautiful and colorful show. Thought Fossil Ridge and Birdville also represented the state fabulously.
  24. Broken Arrow - All Captions Blue Springs Owasso Union Bentonville Bellevue West Rosemount Eden Prairie Richland Jenks O'Fallon Township Haltom Bixby Air Academy Lincoln Grain Valley Kickapoo Broken Arrow...was amazing. Might be my favorite show from them ever. That could have won Grand Nationals. Just amazing.
  25. Updated: Blue Springs, GE Owasso, Visual, Music Union (has the show to beat the two above with a tighter run). Bentonville Bellevue West Rosemount Eden Prairie Richland O'Fallon Township Haltom Bixby Air Academy Lincoln Grain Valley Kickapoo Still to perform: Broken Arrow Jenks
