  1. The song titled Radio is part of their 2006 Production - "Changing Lanes" The radio changes stations as the music changes. Check out all the styles represented: Jazz, Classical, Techno, Pop, Country, and heck even the cowbell song from Saturday Night Live. Should be very cool.
  2. You know your a band nerd when you moderate a forum devoted to band, and tell people making band nerd jokes not to hi-jack a thead. I've seen quite a few sexy L.D Bell lines, with Cedar Park in a close second. But no one can beat the Velvet Knights
  3. Harlingen seems to do pretty well.
  4. Did anyone else experience those fun blackouts yesterday?
  5. The Seguin High School drumline will be losing their instructor (Dr. Tim Sivils) for the last 10 years next year. They are only graduating 3 seniors this year, and there has already been countless resumes turned in, so hopefully 2006 will be a good year for them.
  6. Crossmen Music Click on that link, and then click on members. You should be able to see the music downloads. Then go to the last one on the hornline parts, "Radio." Click one of the parts and look at all the music they are playing! That is awesome! Im really looking foward to Crossmen 06!
  7. Stephen F. Austin... Very classy...
  8. Bands like Leander, The Colony, Seguin, and Robert E. Lee were all consistent Finalists back in the day. BOA San Antonio 1998 - 3rd - Leander 4th - Robert E. Lee 7th - Seguin BOA San Antonio 2005 - 20th - Seguin 24th - The Colony 30th - Leander
  9. Connexus Diggin' it!
  10. You TOTALLY left out the Crossmen. Show Title - "Changing Lanes" Music - Not sure, I know The Way Up by Metheny is in there And the Glassmen's show is titled "Mastery and Madness"
  11. I know you are very musically inclined, but just because you thought that Ryan's song was the "proper" song to win doesn't mean everyone else should think that. I think we should all congratulate Snaredrummer on his wonderful piece, and the fact that he got the most votes. Congrats Snaredrummer!
  12. http://www.scvanguard.org/about/news/news....65-04de1955f4f7 They have a video of the hornline playing snippets of the first two movements.

    Cadets

A little more information on Cadets 06 for those interested, and for those uninterested I suppose. From the YEA! website... 2006 Cadets As the Cadets move towards the production of the 2006 program, "The Zone - Part Deux', there is a clear need for an outside agency, or individual, to assist in the process of developing the visual elements of the program. There are a number of props required and to date, the design team has developed rough sketches for all, but, there is help needed at two levels. We need someone to take the role of design and engineer so that there is an inexpensive, and efficient way, to construct, and to carry, the materials required for the program. We need a team of people who might be able to come to camps, spring training and at other times to build all that needs to be built. We reach out to our volunteers and friends knowing that there are those who have the contacts or the skills to make a real contribution in this regard. What has to be built
  14. In most of the bands I've seen, percussionists are not lazy at all. The battery at my school was always outside before everyone, and was easily the most disciplined section.
  15. As far as I'm concerned, a band could do a show about sand and still make finals. Really silly concept, but if the drill/music is well written and performed, then the concept takes a back seat. Some bands in the lower places in BOA competitions rely fully on a concept. Bands like Marcus, Bowie, Reagan, etc. don't have to. And you truly don't enjoy Beethoven's 6th, Carnival of Animals, Pines of Rome, or the Four Seasons? I would think a composer like yourself would appreciate some of those classics. To each his own I guess.
  16. Nothing musical about birds.... Except the fact that they "sing". Ottorino Respighi would also disagree with you, as he wrote a piece simply called "The Birds." Other composers that were influenced by the music that birds create were Beethoven, John Luther Adams, Oliver Messiaen and all of these guys... Farnaby, Giles (c1563-1640) English; WOODY-COCK, keyboard Kerll, Johann Caspar (1627

  18. I think we kinda missed the whole question, but oh well. I guess what I was really asking was, not which is superior, but where do most of the good Ideas come from?
  19. Your taking it to literally. Obviously, a marching band couldn't compete in DCI. It's easier to see the comparison Xenon is making if you turn the situation around. If a drum corps, Carolina Crown for example, were to compete in a BOA event , do you think they would get first by a huge margine? It is very possible that they would get first, but there are many talented bands in Texas and other states that could give them a run for there money.
  20. Innovation - 1 : the introduction of something new 2 : a new idea, method, or device Innovation is evident in all aspects of the marching arts. It comes from marching bands and drum corps alike. My question; Who sets the standard when it comes to introducing new and creative aspects to the activity? Is it the marching bands, who spend thousands picking the best design team and crafting the best design, or drum corps, who have amazing talent that the designers use to push the envelope? Things to think about: *The thousands of bands who copy corps. *The Cadets taking the singing idea in the 06 show from a marching band *Innovation such as the reagan plume trick or the SCV pants switch in 85
