Its not okay to fish for compliments to make yourself feel better. Please dont post things like this.... Its been happening alot lately. Obviously your band is good, you just got second place at a competition with alot of good bands. What do you expect people to think about you? Let this be a message for everyone: I don't care if you go to reagan or some podunk school in the boonies, it is NOT OK to fish for compliments. Sorry if I sound pissed, its just annoying. -
If they are doing it the same as other YEA! auditions, at the end of the weekend you will be given a number: 1. You are excepted into the Crossmen 2. We would like you to come to the next camp to see how much you improve. 3. You are told what to work on and asked to audition next year. You may attend the next camp, but members will be given priority.

Email megh, megh@yea.org, and just tell her your coming. She will put you down.

You can't leave Seguin out of there. They made state in 2002, and have a very very safe "UIL" type show this year. Ive seen them on several occasions, and the drill designer set them up with alot of easy stuff that does well at UIL. They also sound very good. If they can clean up a few visual things, they will have a good shot at area finals and possibly state. And I'm saying that all bias aside. They are not as strong a band as they were when I went to school there, but there show is very very safe. The directors know what they are doing.

Plus, make it this year, and never pay the registration or camp fees again. Its great to be a vet.

Most Corps are aware that students will have school conflicts, and are fine with you missing a camp or two because you have a concert or SAT or something. You just have to let' em know a couple of weeks in advance. Its not too bad.

Akins placement was right. But not much else... 1. There weren't field judges, which probably would've changed the placements quite dramatically. When I saw no field judges, I expected a contest judged like UIL, but the results were not like that. 2. Bryan was like 20 points behind the rest of the pack....uh...no... 3. Much of this show was judged it seemed on content of the shows. Seguin played and marched very well, very nice sound, but the show is boring as heck (sorry) Same can be said for Leander, except not as boring. Bands like Vista Ridge had very good shows, but did not perform them as well as some of the bands they beat, IMHO. Overall, I was very impressed by everyone. Especially Akins, Vista Ridge, and Westwood. All three came out of no where. I wasn't expecting much from Vista Ridge because of a student there who constantly talks them down on the forums, but they shocked me. Great Job!

Ok, so I talked to Megh Healy, an admin for YEA! and she said that you will recieve the audition material after you send in the registration and 90$ registration fee. Show music and such will be avaliable online by password once you make the corps. Yea, it sucks that you have to send in the registration first, but dont let the opportunity to be apart of The Crossmen slip away. With a brass staff and music arranger like the Crossmen are gonna have, and a potential percussion staff that Ive heard about, this is promising to be a great year for the Crossmen. You can email Megh at megh@yea.org

This is just a general consensus of how many people on TxBands are trying out for the Crossmen in San Antonio on November 24-26. Raise your hand if your going!

What? The Cadets were: 6th in Visual Technique 5th in Visual total 5th in Brass 5th in Percussion 5th in Music total Thats not even close to winning it all. In fact, the only thing they scored above 5th in was General Effect, which you can bet the props and singing had a little bit to do with. They were not even close to being the best execution wise. And yea yea, its your opinion...but if you were really hard corps, you would know that the Cadets were not the best in execution... The Cadets could not execute their very difficult show...Execution was their problem. -
Well, my old high school has some kids that march Crossmen, some that march Glassmen, some that march Madison, some that march Southwind, some that march Blue Knights, and then a few techs from Bluecoats, and a faculty that has former members from Madison, Suncoast Sound, Carolina Crown, Cadets, Phantom, and Glassmen.... But no, not really any rivalries...

2006 MARCHING SHOWS
Moose replied to Aegis Fang's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
See Crossmen 2006. -
I think the goal for everyone is to get the Crossmen back into finals. I can see that happening in 07, but with hard work. Its all up to how hard people are willing to work, and I know Mark Chambers and his staff are gonna work as hard as they can. In the future (08, 09) I can see the corps steadily climbing, just as Boston and Crown did as soon as they were set free from YEA!. I think that YEA! does a good job helping these corps out, and now its time for the Crossmen to be independent.

Good Lord, the thread on DCP is up to 415 replies in 42 pages. Bones is the talk of DCI, thats for sure.

A kid that goes to my old high school played timpani for Crossmen in 06, and is going back for 2007. This is very, very exciting news.
-
So....... IT'S OFFICIAL! Crossmen will be in San Antonio TX from 2007 beyond! The alumni meeting was last night. Many are sad, but they know this is the best descision for the bones. YEA! is phasing out of the Crossmen, but will still be helping and kind of fading away until the organization is stable by itself. Audition's you ask? I'm not sure, look for the press release today. When all else is gone, the BONES always remain...

I agree. The problem for talented kids in Texas that wanted to march division 1 drum corps was that not only did they have to pay the corps tour fees, but also plane tickets to and from every winter camp at about 200$ a pop. Thats over 1000 extra dollars that their families had to pay. This is an opportunity for kids from all over Texas to march drum corps without the extra fees from plane tickets. And let me tell ya, they do add up. Here's to The Crossmen in finals in 07, showing the Nation that band in Texas really IS better.
-
Dan is right, It was a Reagan Band parent and Mark Chambers. The Crossmen only had 4 members from Texas in 06. One of them in the percussion section is from nearby Seguin, Texas. Im thinking the Crossmen will have alot of amazingly talented rookies for next year.

Ok guys, I wanna make one thing perfectly clear. This is NOT 100% final. Only like 99%. If for some small reason the board decides not to, I don't want everyone to flame me. Ok here we go: Last night I recieved an email from the drum major of the 2006 Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps. The email confirmed everything I had been hearing for the past few months. After the 2006 season ended, YEA! (Cadets and Crossmen) was under some serious debt problems. YEA! looked over many solutions, and the best one was to put the Crossmen up for sale. This was the only way to keep the corps from folding. Now part II: What does this have to do with Texas? Well, some wealthy band parent in San Antonio thought there should be a Division 1 Drum Corps in Texas. He talked to the band directors of his school, and he ultimately purchased the Crossmen. I dont feel comfortably releasing the band director and/or schools name, but Im sure someone will guess it anyway. I know no details, but the corps is LIKELY to move to San Antonio. The board votes on it today, there will be alot of resistance, but I think George Hopkins will get his way. The are SUPPOSED to release it to the public today, but if they don't, I'm sure there is some good reason why. This is VERY exciting news.... I can't even wait to see what will happen with this. EDIT: An email from George Hopkins today says that this information will be released to the public now on Thursday.

You may soon get your wish... A certain division 1 corps was up for sale after 06 for financial reasons, and it was bought by someone in San Antonio. The corps is likely to relocate to SA. Look for announcements tomorrow. I don't want to let the whole cat out of the bag, just small pieces. Hint - The corps has appeared in DCI Finals many many times.
