  1. 6 gig Creative Zen Micro. beats the pants off of Ipod. -C
  2. actually, there hasn't been a corps who has mic'd up brass players. interference with pit amplification could cause a little of it, but nothing intentional. still makes me wish amps weren't in drum corps. -C
  3. ::blinks:: that is a must... seriously. You have never truly experianced drum corps without actually seeing it live. effing amazing. -C
  4. I want to be a brass tech at Phantom Regiment, if at all possible with my side job of being a band director -C
  5. well, hearing the wall of sound Crown produced, with the corps 5 feet away works to. they were at my school. simply amazing. ~>conner
  6. lol I thought Cavies took a huge step back musically this year, but a huge step forward in design. I like the Cavies 05 show (2nd favorite of the 2000's) but I certainly dont think the music was great. same goes for what I said about Cavies 02... if they played that show in a standstill, it wouldn't be able to stand on its own. -C
  7. Richland isn't a drum corps. -C
  8. I'd take 88 SCV over the 89 version of Phantom of the Opera, any day. and if you have to tell me to pick a show to define SCV... I'd pick 89 or 91. 98: Aaron Copland - The Modernist... should have won... simply put. 91: Miss Saigon... well I just love the music, and SCV did it with such passion... I would have put them in 3rd, behind Star (duh) and Cavies (91 is my favorite Cavies show ever) -C
  9. when Crown came to my school to do all days (they were at my school for a month... no joke. it was awesome) I just loved to sit down and listen to the music. When people said that was probably one of the best Crown hornlines to date, they weren't kidding... it was definetely the loudest (that I've been exposed to) -C
  10. well, they had awesoeme drill for that time as well... 91 would still hang with ALOT of the upper placing corps in terms of show design, IMO. ~>conner
  11. I think amplification is alright if it stays in the pit (meaning they only amp pit instruments... not pit people) -C
  12. I would have loced 02, had the music not been... well the music that was written. I think in order to have a completely succesful drum corps show, you have to have music that can stand on its own. Meaning, if the Cavies would have played in a horn arc, it would have been nearly as entertaining as if they were doing the entire show. I dont think any show in the 2000's (excluding 00) has done that for me, but ecspecially 02. They played it very well, but the music IMO, was just boring. It was very well incorporated with the show... the show was near flawless when it came to design, and they played it to near perfection (with the exception of the 3rd place drumline) -C
  13. she simulates construction. I thought it was annoying. ~>conner
  14. actually, I think 1991 should be on the list... Cavaliers Anthems, Advent Collection. Go to google video... they have it there. Had Star not been amazing that year, they would have dominated. probably in my top 10 favorite shows of all time. -C
  15. to tell you the truth, I haven't like a Cavies show since 2000. From what I hear, 2006 is supposed to be amazing... dark music, and good drill in the works. -C
  16. tried out for Crown... going back in December. ~>conner
  17. wrong. If all else fails, DCI politics will not allow SCV to fall out of finals. SCV is taking major staff blows, but they will gain staff that is just as good, if not better. With time, SCV (like Madison) will become the powerhouse they were. ~>conner
  18. Bui said it best in a thread on scbandfan. Look at Madison since 2003. Rick V. was a great director, but a change was needed. People love SCV, and great performers will continue to audition there. With an upgraded staff, they will be better. ~>conner
  19. actually, Defiant Heart didn't happen in one year. It happened in about 3 nights. Phantom Regiment 1996 is the biggest dark horse story... well... ever. The whole year they were under the radar, and NO ONE thought they would even end up in the top 4. then all of a sudden, at Quarterfinals, they jumped to 4th... as if that wasn't shocking enough, the next night at semifinals, they jumpedto 3rd. THEN on finals night, the tied (but most agree they should have beaten) the Blue Devils for 1st. Phantoms uniform was also all black that year... guess dark uniforms=dark horse... or something like that. ~>conner
  20. Phantom is staging the attack to win another title. when was the last time Phantom was in the top 3? oh yeah. 1996. Not to mention it's the highest score put up by Phantom since 1996. ~>conner
  21. I agree. 2005 is/was a bad year for Blue Devils, and sadly will be remembered that way. Hopefully, with the top notch staff, they will be able to put together a show that works in 2006. You know... where the brass, pit, drumline and Guard is the main focus, as opposed to amps, and dancers. And the word Yowza. ::sigh:: ~>conner
  22. top 6 in division 1: Phantom, Glassmen, Crossmen, Crown, SCV, Madison. top 6 in Division 2/3: Teal Sound, Blue Stars, Raiders, Oregon Crusaders, East Coast Jazz, Capital Sound. ~>conner
  23. most likely trying out for Teal Sound this coming year. ~>conner
