This contest was just *that* competitive, which means every little element of both design and execution matter (and performance time, luck, all the things out of your control, etc.) Functionally speaking I liked this show's design and execution the most out of the last three shows. For perspective, we made it into finals in 2014 with a 85.95 (13th) in prelims, the score this year was 88.55 (16th)

Cedar Ridge's show was probably my favourite of the night all around. Cedar Park's was also very fun, I love their no-frills "throw down fun technical music" type of show. Also, Vandegrift and CTJ were so loud and balanced it was unreal. No other group really matched the strength of those two. Well-deserved music captions.

There's always some event in San Antonio on the same day as BOA SA that leads people to set off a lot of fireworks, and it's audible from the dome sometimes. That's probably what they're talking about. -

Their music performance sounded great, though I watched the video and there were some odd glitches in the marching that haven't happened before. Either way, super proud of them and it's good practice in the dome for state. -

2016 6A State Predictions

Any decent band program always starts visual and music training camps the May before the summer to get people back into the marching groove/ease beginners into it. Trying to suggest cheating through two vague tweets is a big stretch (what kind of "rehearsal" are they talking about?) One thing that effective programs do very well is manage their rehearsal time. An effective program and leadership can get thrice the amount of work done as a less effective program withint the same time bounds. Given that, I see no reason why they need to use extra time outside of what the rules permit. -

^ yes please! I loved Reagan and Vista's versions and I think the way Vista ended their ballad would make an extraordinary dci moment -
@jade1 I assume there's salt about how my (former) district took the top four places again. I wonder what was so "theatrical" about the LISD bands' shows? The fact that CP's show was about OPERA ITSELF? Or that Vista Ridge used a couple pyramids? I'm willing to bet as much as you want that they would perform at the exact same level in UIL if their shows were just raw marching and playing (see: Cedar Park 2011). Their excellence stems from their extreme levels of musicality, not from the props. Blaming excellence on props and "theatrical production" is such a dead horse. Stop beating it. It's just a style of show.

Lol you literally guessed every single placement correctly except for Southwest/Centennial
-
They probably dinged Leander's minor timing issues harder than the others did
-
Any thoughts about the non-LISDs? I liked Centennial the best after LISD, and Wakeland after that. We'll see how DS does this late in the night
-
Well if we're talking about Vista's soprano sax mic, all other electronics were in working order (including the alto sax mic at the beginning), so I think her specific device had problems
-
@principal how was Vista's run in person? Can never trust these live streams ;p And agreed, CP was insane even from the stream
-
Super proud of Vista Ridge's run. Probably their best of the season. Was it just me or was the soprano sax mic out in the ballad? Shame, it's a beautiful solo

Yes! My bronze medal from 2013 is hanging happily on the wall back at home. Great memory. Though I wish they'd etch what contest it was won at (it just says UIL state)

Same here. I've seen Choral Works 4(?) times this past season including on stream for prelims today, and watching it on stream for finals tonight, felt it was a bit flat energy-wise. Still INCREDIBLY refined though.

I really want my babies to be able to medal, but in a wider scope I just want LISD to take the top again Favorite to win is Cedar Park

That's the old schedule. New: http://www.uiltexas.org/files/music/1A__5A_Tentative_Schdule_Table_1.pdf Anyways, super pumped about seeing my underclassmen perform w Vista Ridge! Good job on a better run than area and best wishes for an even better last one tonight!

Waxahachie's closer sounds unnervingly similar to Cedar Park 2013 opener, even the nuances in the music I remember are there, haha Great run though. They and Centennial look great.

redrawing only for missing slots. I know one is 7AM and another is late in the afternoon (when an exhibition is possibly?). Not sure where the others are, probably skipping judges breaks for them. but sources seem to claim that while 7 bands couldn't make it today, only 5 are being drawn for, leaving 2 completely screwed. I personally don't like it, but, that's what we have for now.
