They will be 5A next year as they will have 4 complete grade levels in 2024.

Right now they have freshman, sophomores, juniors and SOME seniors.

They turned in 1,166 for Snapshot Day on Friday, which the UIL will use for classification. So I believe they will stay 4A (but it is the UIL, so who knows).

Something’s up with the UIL state website scores for 4A.

Either the math is wrong or they have the wrong scoring system on the website.

I thought that if a band got 3 1's- 2 from Music and 1 from Visual, then they would win because of the majority judges rule. It happened in 2016 when North Lamar won state

They will be in 4A for one more year, possibly two more years. Their 10-12th grade classes are small due to the school district giving students a choice to either go to the new school or stay at their original school, and many elected to not transfer over.

That absolutely boggles the mind.  To be honest, what it sounded like to me was a mini version of a lower finals 6A band.  It was that impeccable.  To give that 7th is an astounding failure of ear training.

UIL has the wrong system on their website.

They are working to get that fixed now.

Ok I think I know what’s going on. I’m guessing, but I think I’m right. 

I think they used the 7 judge caption format that they used in 6a (so caption for WW, Brass, Perc, etc). But I think the website is set up to show us the 5 judge system. So you’re seeing 5 of the 7 judges placed in the wrong categories, but the total is right.

The system is 7-judge now.  So ensemble music, brass, woodwind, percussion, ensemble visual, individual visual, and what equates to general effect.  UIL didn’t account for this apparently in their posting of results, so some scores are missing.  I believe the totals should be correct however.

UIL website is wrong, it's the 7 judge system in finals as well.  Give it a chance to get fixed lol

We have 12 seniors out of the 88 of us

They turned in an enrollment of 1,166 according to Matt Stepp and the Dave Campbell's Texas Football crew.

Last year, the cutoff for 4A/5A was 1,299. That number will likely change, but it will probably go up.

Unless that's an incorrect number or something out of the blue happens with realignment, they will be 4A again the next two years.

I find it highly impressive that Canyon ISD had all three school advance to state and two of their school advance to finals. So one school district takes 20% of the top 10 in the state. Quite the accomplishment for one school district.

Did the same last year! All three of the high schools in Canyon have amazing band programs. Definitely look for them doing more of the same in the future- hopefully all three of them!
