Trumpet Master Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Has anybody felt really bad after a competition? This year our band went to the USSBA Crossroads Competition in Robstown, and we got Grand Champion. Most of us felt really bad once we started thinking about it. We became what we hated the most. We were the Harlingen HS of that competion. My heart goes out to those other bands. They were really good also. Has anybody else felt this way after a competition? Quote
PrideOfPearland Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Umm..I don't quite understand what you mean..? Quote
Fortisimo Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Umm... not after winning a competition, no... After failing to move on to state last year at area I felt like crap the next day though... Quote
TRtrumpet Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Never.. then again we've neve won grand champion. I didnt feel like crap after hearing our score this year cus its such a major improvement from last year. Quote
Trumpet Master Posted January 7, 2006 Author Posted January 7, 2006 We felt bad because there was a bunch of 2A, 3A, 4A, and a few 5A bands and its really hard for the 2A, 3A, and 4A's to compete with a big band like ours. Down here in the valley mostly everybody dislikes the Harlingen HS Band because they are always winning. So I can imagine how they felt having some band they didn't know, come and win it all. Quote
TRtrumpet Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Yea that would be pretty hard. Over here, 1A's 2A'a and 3A's have thier own competitions. 4A's and 5A's also have thier own seperetls from ours. Quote
sax5warrior Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 yep...indeed i felt bad. Storytime! It was UIL Marching 2005, xenon may remember it was Duncanville hosting it. The last group to perform was South Grand Prairie, Irving- MacArthur, Coppell, and Duncanville. It was a beautiful sunset on the horizon as South Grand Prairie was going to play its show "New Beginnings" South Grand Prairie was doing good, but 1 mistake was going to ruin it for everyone, its up for the judges if they have seen what i am about to tell. Bass Clarinets were marching on 1 direction and the Alto's in the other. They were marching from about 4-6 from each other. I bumped into one of them for the first time, it was really noticeable from my perspective. I got out of step and when i saw the video, it was clearly noticable. luckily, South Grand Prairie made straight 1s for the 1st time in 5 years. But if the judges saw that move, i wouldve felt really really really horrible. From the mistake on, i wasnt playing that much and trying the finish the last 3 minutes of the show mistake free. The story of straight 1s overshadowed the mistake and has never been told again, except for today anyways. Quote
TRtrumpet Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 *sighs* nothing like playing your best show during the sunset.... I felt horible 3 years ago (begore I was in the band) when we got a 4! Now thats a crappy feeling and I wasent even in the band. (note we have a new director and we not longer suck...) Quote
BlinK Day 41 Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 i always kind of feel bad whenever we have a competition with PCEP . . . judges really aren't supposed to put us anywhere near them cuz they always make finals at GN and we haven't yet . . . its feels so useless though. plymouths the only band in michigan thats beaten us(other than reeths-puffer at BOA Pontiac) and we can't even make them sweat, they beat us at states by 4 and a half points. Our score was no consolation cuz we coulnd't even break 90 and we were so sure we were going to with how our season was going. Despite being a way better show than last season our score was only 1.8 points above our states score last year, and we had the best show of our lives that night... well that turned into a rant sort of sry w/e i hope we can actually do something next year Quote

Fortisimo Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 That's true; you never can be completely sure, but the judges probably had a good reason for the decision they made. We were tied with Richland for the runner-up slot to move on to state, and that sucked. But hey, there' always next year, right? Well, that is, until you graduate. So I guess my class has one more shot. Quote
