  1. I was referring to out of Texas comps like GN. Their drill is more complex than Marcus's each year IMO. Again, I'm not saying Marcus didn't deserve to win state, just throwing in my two cents.
  2. Not to perpetuate this debate or anything, but I'll post a few of my thoughts. First of all, I've been a fan of Bell for many years now, so at first it irritated me when Marcus just showed up and starting dominating in their own right. Marcus consistently plays excellently, but I'm left feeling like something is missing. Yes, it is the visual. This brings me to something someone I know said last year. I absolutely loved Marcus's show last year. But my friend said "It's a perfect mp3 show, but it's not one you'll want to watch on DVD over and over." That was it. I find myself LISTENING to Marcus more often than watching Marcus. I find myself LISTENING and WATCHING Bell's shows. There isn't a Bell show I don't like since 2000, and that's only cause I haven't really listened to Bell before then. So yes, Marcus is brilliant at the music aspect. But they seriously (IMO) need to start upping their visual program. And by visual I mean drill. They may win visual captions at BOA, but that's because it's clean. Easier drill is easier to clean. That's all for now. Once Marcus matches their playing with their drill, just imagine how dominating they could be. It could also garner them higher placements at grand nationals. I know Bell doesn't have the hardest drill either, so Texas bands in general could bump up their visual programs . Then we could dominate every year at nats!!
  3. It's music from the Pacific (HBO miniseries). It's called Honor (Main theme) track 1 on the soundtrack
  4. L.D. Bell- Simply amazing. I love that they are going from scary/creepy 06/06 to ethereal this year. Everything about this show makes me happy. Kingfishers was a great choice along with Ethiopia III. I'm so glad I get to see them live at GN. Avon (IN)- They will probably repeat, if not be right under Bell. This show is so clean musically. As stated a couple posts earlier, the trumpets are SO clean on their tonguing feature in the first movement. I literally had that part stuck in my head from the minute they performed it and Indy until Saturday night. They could do a lot of damage if they clean up a bit from Indy. The Woodlands- Love the concept of this show. Chant/drum part makes me smile every time. Can't wait to see them live either. Broken Arrow (OK)- Now, I know this was a huge WTF at St. Louis, but the music is great. I've listened to this show so much since then and it keeps growing on me. Hopefully they have added a lot since Stl Marcus- MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC. They are slated to win the music caption on their first GN appearance, and I say even top 3. Bowie- Love their drill design this year, and the music doesn't hurt either. Centerville (OH)- I'm not a fan of Elvis, but what this group has done to his music is great. Very much a crowd pleaser. Those are a few of mine this year. Great year at GN all around...
  5. See: LD Bell 2005,2006,2007... Inferno of 05, toward the middle, 06 obvious, 07 heavenly
  6. I don't think that show would be that controversial, so long as they are not actually acting out the scenes on the field, well I guess they would have to. But I do agree that using this music would be phenomal. Some bands have used some of it in their shows (Brazoswood 2007, some others) mostly the theme mix one with ressurection, crucifixion, mary goes to Jesus mixed together. I think a good soundtrack to use for a show would be The DaVinci Code. Especially Chevaliers de Sangreal. Bell gave us a sample of what this soundtrack has to offer (Malleus Maleficarum ballad 2008). If a good band performed Chevailers well, I think I could die happy.
  7. By the way, while I'm here, I'll post my predictions L.D. Bell Marcus James Bowie SFA Cedar Park The Woodlands Hebron Richland Coppell Clear Brook Brazoswood Haltom Winston Churchill Westlake Music: Tie Bell/Marcus Visual: Bell GE: Bell These are mostly in the order I predict today. Bell with edge out Marcus here, GN is another story. 3 weeks is a long time to clean. As for 3-5 anything could happen. Bowie is really strong at this regional usually, wouldn't be surprised to see them 3rd with the vis package they have. The Woodlands hasn't sold me yet, but they haven't performed in this circuit for a couple weeks. 7-9 could switch a little as well. 10-14 is truly hard to predict, these can switch any way possible. Would like to see Colleyville in finals again, but not so sure.
  8. I didn't see all of the bands, but I really loved Richland and SFA. Richland was cleaner than they have been in a while (minus one fall) great though. SFA was elegant as always. I think finalists from today will be Richland, SFA, Churchill. Honestly, during tomorrow's middle block I count 6 locks, 8 potential finalists total. I would kill to be able to watch that block, boo for prior engagements. This year is one of the strongest super regionals in a while.
  9. I still haven't seen any timings of Marcus shows. I'd love to see 2006 and 2007. Let's include all bands instead of choosing one or a few.
  10. 1. Sprint 2. 3 messages received 3. text 1: Class A Champion-Hidalgo (no 2A or 3A or any captions) 4. Next two texts were the finals schedule
  11. This time shouldn't hurt Reagan too much, but I think if they have an early semifinals spot, they will have a lesser chance of making finals...as for the others, I think they will do fine.
  12. Hm, Marcus scored the same in both prelims and finals. Exactly...weird. Has this ever happened before? Don't get me wrong, they had a great finals performance, but a 96.20? I'm not too sure...
  13. I am from samuel clemens high school and live in Nebraska now...I have no affiliation with any bands at finals. Just a BOA alumnus and fan...
  14. So I don't offend anyone, I'm going to keep this short and sweet, well, at least short. Tonight had some great performances throughout...judging...not so much. I don't agree with the caption sweep, and I dont agree with the scoring, but again, I'll stop there. I just want some things to change, or else this could turn into UIL... I'm sorry if this is going to far, but I think one band had the performance that should have gotten that record breaking score, but we'll just leave it at that. Am I the only one who thinks this way? I don't think so, but oh well...what can you do? Oh thats right...change your judges.
  15. wow Brazoswood...When I first heard they were doing music from the Passion, I knew it would be "Ressurection." Wow, I can't wait to see tomorrow's finals...I really hope they do extremely well
  16. ha, I scraped my knee on the asphault senior year doing a zig zag drill move, but I made it through. These days its mostly joint pains and that kind of stuff, maybe I'm just too old for this now
  17. Mine is mostly band shows. Paticularly Bell 06, 05, and Reagan 03,04,05. I listen to it on the way to school to sooth me before the rough days haha
  18. I was wondering if txblive members will receive Area results this weekend, or at least state finalists?
  19. I have no doubt that Bell will do great, if not win Grand Nationals. I believe these kids have nothing left to go but a winning performance on Saturday, November 17th. Think about it, they have worked for this year since Ascension. The seniors this year are the sophomores that began the triology in 2005, granted some of them may not have marched that year, but I'm pretty sure they want this more than anything. These kids have busted their tails to get this far, and they will not stop at anything. These seniors will be remembered as the class that brought one of the best series of shows to the marching band field that anyone has. Just because they got 2nd at Arlington means nothing, They moved from 4th at Arlington in 2005 to 3rd place at nationals, there is no limit to what this band can do. I am very excited to see the season unfold with the upcoming SA, and more importantly Grand National championships. I can't wait to see what they pull of on the 17th
  20. So as we all know, there are many great TX bands going to GN this year, and I was just wondering if there was any chance there is going to be a total domination? It's going to be my first time going, and I am more than excited. I just thought I would express my thoughts and see what others think. So we have Reagan, which has gotten 2nd in 03 and 05 and outstanding music in finals, Bell who has gotten 3rd, and 2nd in 05 and 06 respectively with outstanding music in 06, we have SFA who got 4th in 04 and outstanding music, we have Richland who got 7th in 05, we have Clearbrook who got 3rd at Houston this year, we have the Woodlands who got 1st in semis last year, which all have a great shot at finals. Now I was just thinking that with all these bands have accomplished, is there a chance that we could have a caption sweep like we did in 03 for semis? We have Reagan, Bell, and SFA with the last 3 music captions, so there is bound to be a caption there lol. I was just thinking that these bands are capable of doing great things, and could we see at least 4 in the top 5 at finals? It's getting late, so maybe this is just late night thinking, but I would appreciate any feedback on this. I wanna know what others think.
  21. Ive been trying to get mine activated, and i havent received a confirmation text yet... can someone help me?
  22. I don't know how well Steele or Clemens are going to do, due to it being the first year in 4A, but I will say that in 2004, our last year in 5A, we did better than we had ever done, and I believe that if the students believe they can do it, we might just see clemens or steele do very well. It's anyone's game...but we'll see. I'm very excited to see what happens this year...
