SETXgal Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 Region 3 watch party thoughts? Paris wasn't where I thought they might be. Pine Tree is doing well and definitely will do better than 17th at area last year. I think they make finals & a possibility to advance to state. I might have a better feeling about that last part after the other bands' region performance videos go up. North Lamar. Still needs some cleaning. They didn't have the last part of the drill on the field. That was a little concerning. My guys didn't understand the use of "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" in their "Ascension" show. Sulphur Springs. Doing well. Needs cleaning. Gpk1968 1 Quote

Doing well. Needs cleaning. It’s hard to tell from the audio. A friend of mine who was present said “No other 4A came close to NL in power and transparency musically. Visually they were the only band I thought whose entire production was readable. The choreography is off the charts in terms of difficulty. Sure it’s not done but it’s so good. Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies was a low point for me as well. Not bad but not as impactful as other parts. In my estimation, they probably have about 3-5 more sets. At there pace I think they are okay for area and real clean for state. SS just doesn’t land for me. I know the audio didn’t help them but everything just seems “okay” I need to see them in person before I eat my words. I found a video of them from Royse city just out of curiosity. It didn’t do much to help this perception. They may be out of medal talk for me which I had them solidly in 2nd or 3rd at state. The show just isn’t slick enough. Pine Tree and PG are not in this fight I hate to say. And with Wills Point, Farmersville, Bridge City, Lunberton, Canton, and Van Alstyn in the hunt, that’s got to be worrisome. KimR0328 1 Quote

I'm hoping some recordings with decent audio pop up. I have to say, the 2 older gentleman doing commentary gave us plenty of laughs tonight. They also had the quick pre-performance prerecorded director interviews. North Lamar did talk about the adjustments of their switch to a 4 day week. I believe it was Pleasant Grove that mentioned they are marching something like 41 freshman out of 106 marchers. I love little tidbits like that. I imagine those guys are beloved local treasures! SS needs cleaning but they have some good sections for scoring in drill difficulty. The potential is still there. If they clean those & push dynamics, I'd expect them to place near Celina like they have in the other contests so far this year. Just noticed NL isn't using custom performance tops this year. Not sure if that was a budget decision or maybe they got new regular uniforms and wanted to wear those this year? That is just curiosity though. A lot can happen in just a week. Most have about 6 full rehearsals left, plus a run thru & their halftime performances on Fridays. Quote

They manage to find something nice to say about every ensemble. True class acts who have been doing this for at least a decade or so. I confirmed with an area band director that the area draw has not happened yet. Area b always publishes theirs early, not area c. There is an estimate that prelims will start around 9:30 and end at 4:45 with finals starting at 6:45 and results at 10:30. This is all an estimate and depends on numbers. Quote

I knew they did Winter Guard & that their guard has usually been a strength over the last several years. Do they have 8th grade marchers too? I have seen the posts & know BC does and has a Middle School color guard. LCM did in the past, but I'm not sure if they still do. I think Livingston does. I know a lot of the smaller 3A schools in this region also do. Quote

The guard was a strong component to the program before Covid (Multiple years of beating 5A/6A schools that had twice the number in the guard compared to Lumberton. They also were the only 4A school in the TCGC Scholastic A Class and placed 3rd at State back in 2019). After Covid, the guard has been rebuilding itself from having only 6 members in 2021 to 17 this year. I will say last year and this year feels more like the pre-covid Lumberton guard. Can not wait to see them transform and blossom in the future years. Now I dont know if the band itself has any 8th graders marching. I doubt it as typically Lumberton only has them in the front ensemble and guard. Quote

They had a few front ensemble members a few years ago. I don’t know that they have ever had an 8th grader actually march and play. J-Mike16 1 Quote

That live stream was horrible. I did get a kick out of the commentators. I love this and every region should do it. TBH, I don’t know how to rank the bands at this contest. There’s things I love about all the shows but nothing blew me away. Everyone knows how I feel about NL so I’ll shut up. I think SS probably sounded a lot better in person. Quote
Gpk1968 Posted October 16, 2025 Posted October 16, 2025 Van alstyne, Farmersville, community, and celina are advancing from region 25. Unfortunately Bonham got a 2 again. no surprises. Quote
