TrenBS Posted May 22 Posted May 22 The head director at McKinney North is leaving to go to the new Moseley middle school in ProsperISD, which, despite him being a large contributing factor to McKinney Norths success over the past 3-4 years, I dont think they will take a massive hit since the staff as a whole is rock solid, and the associate director was the one leading the marching side of things, so frankly I doubt they will decline or even dip temporarily besides new head director shuffle shenanigans. Heres my prediction as well: 1. Wakeland 2. Lone Star 3. McKinney North/Argyle (Argyle lead) 4. Argyle/McKinney North (North drag) 5. Lebanon Trail 6. Walnut Grove 7. Reedy 8. Emerson 9. Liberty 10. We might be seeing a new style of show from them soon, wonder if they will keep up the Jazzy stuff or if he'll want to move on. Either way I agree they won't drop a ton, at least not in the next couple years Quote

I like your thinking with The Colony bounce back, I enjoyed their show last year… definitely finals spot deserving. Memorial did also just lose their head director after only 3 years so I’m not sure how they will play out. Also Wakeland dropping to 3rd is a little bit of a stretch, I can see them dropping to 2nd after a while as they were head to head with lone star last season. Argyle jump is a little crazy too. overall great predictions! Expand I think the top 3 are going to be interchangeable..... but I'm not naive there will be a dark horse thus year..... that will surprise all of us... but definitely Wakeland and Lone Star will be in the race for state.... TrenBS Posted May 23 Posted May 23 To update on North, their associate director, Connor Vaughn is taking over as the head director, which in my opinion might make them even MORE of a powerhouse since he was a teacher in DCI (marched at Crown as a trumpet in 14 and 15, taught at Crossmen, Mandarans, and The Cadets their last year), and Mr.Williams was much more on the concert band side of things from what Ive been told over the years, so I dont think North will dip and will continue to further improve, their floor is very likely going to be 5th at area, but we shall see Tubalord11 and SharksAreCool 2 Quote
melloblaster48 Posted June 3 Posted June 3 Does anyone know where the contest will be? I'm guessing it'll be in Melissa again, but it would be so awesome if it was at the Star in Frisco. Quote

Expand I think considering the size of the area they definitely could. US bands did or still does a comp here and there were around 20+ bands in prelims. It might be a little tight like you said but other than the distance for Sherman and Denison this would be a lot easier for a lot, especially considering like half the area are Frisco schools. just saw it’s got a 12,000 seats compared to 10,000 at Melissa so def enough room Quote
dfwhorn Posted June 4 Posted June 4 Predictions for now: Wakeland Lone Star Argyle North Lebanon Reedy Walnut Emerson Liberty See below Finalist bubble: Heritage Liberty The Colony Independence Melissa This contest will be pretty interesting as always, I'm excited to see if Emerson and Melissa's world guards will help with their performance. I hope so because those guys have a lot of potential. In the short term I don't think North will be affected just yet by the staff change, but give it a couple years. Makes me wonder if you'll see any new guys go to state (Reedy or Walnut Grove????) in these next few years. Gotta represent the 380 growth spurt well at state lol. But either way I'm excited to see how this turns out, and theres a lot of ways this contest can go this year. I think Emerson will make finals. but there will be a lot of people fighting to be the last ones into finals this year at prelims I think Quote
Toasty Posted June 4 Posted June 4 I don’t know if it matters much, but I saw somewhere that LT hired a new director for their percussion and The Colony is currently looking for a new assistant band director, do you think that would change anything at all? Quote

LoneStarLover123 Posted June 6 Posted June 6 Lone star has been improving VERY fast, and I think this is their breakthrough year where they take the number one. With all the director changes, these are my predictions. Lone star (with how much they have been improving this has to be the year they de-throne wakeland) Wakeland (You cant deny they are still a powerhouse) North (I don't even think they are that good, but they keep on winning) Reedy (I think memorials new director will bring them to state) Argyle (they did pretty well last year, but all good things come to an end) Walnut Grove (one of my friends said they are going to be good this year) Emerson (they had pretty cool plumes last year, so I could see them pulling off another insane thing this year) Lebanon (don't really know what their show is) Centennial (I forgot what bands were left in this area) Liberty (I remembered this band and thought they were perfect for 10th place) TrenBS 1 Quote

Expand Lone Star could beat Wakeland with these new captions, they had beaten Wakeland in woodwinds and brass and visual ensemble, losing only in percussion and visual individual, along with the broader music ensemble and content captions, I think Wakeland is still more likely to win since its earlier, but could still change Otherwise not sure, McKinney North is going to be really strong next year with their director changes, to be honest, I think TMEA wont see much massive improvements but for marching they have a significantly more talented staff for DCI in particular, and hopefully it shows on these sheets this fall, Argyle probably is more in the 2nd/3rd range rather than 3rd/4th Quote
Tubalord11 Posted June 9 Posted June 9 Wait can someone explain the changes for the judges?? Are we having like a WW/brass/perc or ensemble judge for music and Indv/ensb for visual? I probably saw this but I forgot lol Quote

Popular Post DrummersEcho Posted June 10 Popular Post Posted June 10 First off, this Area Finals Group is the BEST Area in 5A. We have 3–4 STATE FINALISTS here EVERY YEAR, and the Most CREATIVE Shows. This is such an interesting and Competitive Area, Wow. Wakeland (Very clean marching with amazing music. Getting better every year. Those BOA results were insane for a 5A, starting to beat a lot of major 6A schools.) Lonestar/Argyle (Lonestar is making INSANE improvement, crazy jumps — 16th, 7th, 6th at State — and the music is just getting better and better. Holy moly, that Area B Prelims run... Argyle has made an INSANE comeback, holy — 20th at Grand Nat’s, 7th at State, sitting right below Lone Star at 5A State 2024.) Argyle/McKinney North (Argyle, taking LT by 1 point, TRULY put on a show at State, and was 8 spots away from Grand National Finals! McKinney North — very cool shows, the jazz and the screamers, with the cool uniforms, good flutter technique — awesome. Vibes are immaculate.) Argyle/Mckinney North/LT/Reedy/Heritage (LT is always a 4th placer, and losing State by 1 point was hard on them. Especially Heritage’s drop from 6th to 10th in Area. These 4 bands are out for blood. Heritage and Lebanon Trail TIED for 5th/6th. Man, these guys are just going to be CLOSE. I'm not 100% who's taking this spot, but this is interesting. These guys have all lost something, and the 1-point loss/win/tie battle will KEEP GOING. These guys have very unique style — this is gonna be good.) Reedy/Heritage/Liberty (First off, these 3 bands here have made AMAZING improvement. Heritage went from 16th for 2 years to 6th in Prelims. Reedy getting 6th in Finals — these guys are making jumps. Heritage is bringing something WAY different, less focused on props. Reedy is going to push out everything and give it their all after their 6th place finish. Heritage and Reedy will NOT be backing down. Liberty’s 14th to 7th jump — WOW. Never thought I'd hear from them.) Reedy/Heritage/Liberty/Memorial/WG (Nothing to say on this one — one of these guys will be 6th though.) Liberty/Memorial/WG (Walnut Grove is a new school, but not bad results for a new school. Who knows.) Memorial/WG/Liberty (Memorial usually is a good band, but they always make finals! They are a very interesting band — I love their shows and their underratedness.) The Colony/Emerson (I don't know, man. The Colony has had a rollercoaster of results — 6th in 2023, then 12th. That's a major jump. I hope they can beat my prediction, but my hopes aren't that high.) Emerson/The Colony/Melissa/Independence (Missing 10th place by just barely sucked for Emerson. This band had very interesting props and music. Kinetic Playground was awesome, and I hope to see them here.) Drumlineking, DumbBandLoser and Tubalord11 3 Quote
