  1. Doesn't it say Poteet is 4A right there? And Poteet will be doing Danielpour's "Toward the Splendid City" in addition to "Urban Dances." And I think "Lonely Town" is the only movement from On the Town they'll be using. I was hoping for a little "Times Square: 1944," but I guess that's a little cliche.
  2. I'm not sure about the specifics, but Poteet's show consists of music from Richard Danielpour's "Urban Dances" and Leonard Bernstein's "On the Town Suite." Both pieces are about NYC, but I don't know how that theme is going to tie into the drill/guard eqipment/etc. I highly doubt there will be any props. I was a bit skeptical at first because this is a pretty big stylistic departure (musically anyway) for Poteet, but friends in the band say it's coming along very well. I'm interested to see how the area re-alignment affects things. Area C will be less competitive than usual, but Area B is STACKED. Three 2005 state marching band finalists (Sherman, Birdville, Aledo), three 2007 honor band finalists (Centennial, Southwest, The Colony) plus McKinney and Seguin. Good luck, guys. It's going to be intense. I think this will be like 1999 when 4 of the 7 4A state finalists were from Area B. Area A will be much more competitve than usual as Fossil Ridge, Azle, and Springtown move in to face Plainview, Frenship, and the El Paso schools. And then, of course, Area D will be as ultra competitive as it has been for the past few years. I'm also interested to see if any new Area G powerhouses emerge in the absence of Lopez.
  3. If anyone is interested, Poteet's winning recording is available for download at www.mesquiteisd.org.
  4. I have no idea about how close it was. The panel consists of five judges who rank the fourteen bands and then the high and low scores are dropped for final calculation of rank. Only the top seven bands are posted and I don't think rank/scores are ever revealed to anyone besides directors.
  5. 1. Poteet 2. Centennial 3. Southwest 4. Hendrickson 5. The Colony 6. Nederland 7. New Braunfels Congrats to all involved!
  6. EDIT: Jk. I was thinking about something else.
  7. 1. Marcus 2. LD Bell 3. Duncanville 4. Churchill 5. Reagan 6. Langham Creek 7. Coppell 8. Bowie 9. Berkner 10. Akins Duncanville, Churchill, and Reagan were involved in a 3-way tie for third.
  8. What does SFA have to start doing to make finals at SMC? We all consider them to be one of the best bands in the nation, but they never do well at this contest! This never fails to blow my mind.
  9. Bowie Reagan Marcus Coppell Berkner LD Bell Duncanville Akins Churchill Langham Creek
  10. ... Is it just me or did three judges have Bowie ahead of Churchill? By the UIL tie breaker rules, shouldn't that put Bowie in 3rd?
  11. I posted the prelims results on the second page....
  12. I don't have the rank points in front of me, but Leander was very close to Akins. If I remember correctly, two music judges had them in.
  13. Finals: 1. Reagan 2. Cedar Park 3. Churchill 4. Bowie 5. Akins 6. Leander 7. Westlake 8. Georgetown 9. Round Rock 10. Pflugerville Prelims: 1. Cedar Park 2. Reagan 3. Churchill 4. Georgetown 5. Bowie 6. Westlake 7. Leander 8. Akins 9. Round Rock 10. Pflugerville
  14. I agree with that 100%. Area is where the musicality tends to win in my opinion, since everyone is technically proficient. I always place better at area than at region, and I think that's the reason.
  15. I came in 1st at area and made it!!!!!!! I'm very excited if you can't tell. We also had a bassoon, horn, bari sax, and euphonium.
  16. I came in 2nd, so I'm advancing to area! I'm happy with it, but I was 1st in phase 1 so that kind of rots.
  17. I don't understand this realigment at all. Does it make any sense for the Keller schools and the Midland/Odessa schools to be in the same area?
  18. From what I've heard, the 3 and the 5 in music were more accurate than the 1st......

  23. Hmm.........I'm afraid I don't see the problem here. Since Reagan has an exceptionally creative design staff, we could hardly conclude anything about the show from the title or even the music being played. Oh well, we'll all find out in less than a week.
