  1. Thanks for the recap! However, the Blondie fan in me resents crediting "Call Me" to Debbie Harry alone. *pulls out "Blondie is a Band" button*
  2. Predictions are now up. Huzzah! Unfortunately, I submitted the list before I knew Birdville had withdrawn. Hopefully everyone remembers to take that into account.
  3. Yeah, they consistently advanced from what used to be arguably the most competitive 4A area in the state (also containing Poteet, Sherman, Hebron, Pearce, Grapevine, Richardson, Sachse, Northwest, etc.) That's pretty serious if you ask me.
  4. My sources tell me that Sherman was very, very impressive at the Mesquite Marching Festival. I'm hoping for a video from either MMF or their performance next week at Plano East. Their drill is supposedly much more demanding than usual. I'm interested to see it.
  5. Really? I find it hard to believe Wylie didn't have a single student make the all region band last year, especially since they moved to Region 25. They usually have an all stater or two, even when they were in hyper-competitive Region 3. Not to take away credit from Todd Dixon, but Wylie was pretty darn good under Mike Lipe as well......
  6. Apparently Birdville is now going here instead of Plano East. Very interesting......
  7. Lake Highlands came in 5th. Still no word on 4th or 6th-8th. Anyone know anything else?
  8. Well, after some very interesting results this weekend I think now is a good time to make predictions for Plano East. What I'm thinking right now: 1. Poteet 2. Wylie 3. Allen 4. Keller 5. Rowlett 6. Sherman 7. Flower Mound 8. Richardson 9. Plano 10. Naaman Forest EDIT: Apparently Birdville has pulled out and is now going to the Aledo contest. Interesting....
  9. Wait..........Sachse is doing a PoTC show again? Wtf?
  10. Mesquite Marching Festival was today. I don't know much yet, but Sherman won Best in Class 4A. Word on the street is that they outscored Poteet's exhibition performance. It may not mean anything since Poteet wasn't being scored competitively, but you never know. I'm looking forward to next Saturday when Sherman, Poteet, and Birdville meet at the Plano East Marching Invitational.
  11. Best in Class 3A: Canton Best in Class 4A: Sherman Best in Class 5A: Coppell Grand Champion: Coppell

  13. Yay! I'm so glad to have our resident 4A enthusiast back! I am a bit confused about the count of Area B bands. According to the Region 7 web site, there are 31 4A bands in Area B: http://www.uilforms.com/regions/7/4A%20Dra...0order%2007.htm I think one source of confusion came from the McKinney ISD schools. McKinney is a part of the new Region 25, but the three McKinney bands performed at the Region 3 marching contest last year due to some sort of scheduling conflict. Otherwise, I agree with your analyses of the areas, though I would definitely not count out Kingsville: King in Area G. They tied for 7th in state prelims in 03, but lost the tie breaker to Brenham and were only two rank points out of the Roma/Lopez tie for first at area in 2005. I'm currently thinking Roma and King for the lucky two from that area. And I also agree that this will be Friendswood's year. As much as I would love Poteet to repeat (gotta rep the alma mater), Friendswood has just been close too many times to not win. Historically, the honor band thing also works against Poteet. For example: 1997 Honor Band: Coppell Marching Champion: Poteet 1999 Honor Band: Keller Marching Champion: Coppell 2001 Honor Band: J.J. Pearce Marching Champion: Cedar Park 2003 Honor Band: Lopez Marching Champion: Richland 2005 Honor Band: Friendswood Marching Champion: Poteet Very interesting.........
  14. Here is the current prelims schedule (courtesy of the Rowlett Band web page): 9:00 Pottsboro 9:15 Whitewright 9:30 Tom Bean 9:45 Lovejoy 10:00 Commerce 10:15 Prosper 10:30 Whitesboro 10:45 Mineola 11:00 Argyle 11:15 Robinson 11:30 BREAK 12:00 Denison 12:15 Rockwall Heath 12:30 Sherman 12:45 McKinney Boyd 1:00 Guyer 1:15 Birdville 1:30 McKinney 1:45 Poteet 2:00 BREAK 2:15 Plano 2:30 North Garland 2:45 Naaman Forest 3:00 Arlington 3:15 John Horn 3:30 Mesquite 3:45 North Lamar (not sure why they're in the 5A block, but whatever.....) 4:00 North Mesquite 4:15 Arlington Lamar 4:30 Richardson 4:45 Wylie 5:00 Keller 5:15 Flower Mound 5:30 Rowlett 5:45 Allen 7:30 Finals Begin
  15. Indeed they did. I think Plano East is ultimately going to come down to Poteet and Rowlett with Keller and Birdville as dark horses. Heck, Allen could win with the right panel. This contest is way more stacked than it usually is. There's usually a big drop in quality after the top 3-4 bands that will not be present this year.
  16. I don't know.........Poteet has pulled off some pretty stellar upset victories at Plano East in the recent past (over Duncanville in 2004 and Berkner in 2005.) I think they can probably do it again.
  17. Oh yeah, I totally agree that Connally is a strong contender for the title. They were probably the favorite going in last time. I still think their 2005 show should have medaled. Don't forget about Hendrickson and New Braunfels from the Central Texas set. Both made finals last time and can probably do it again. As far as show progress goes, I think Poteet is performing their whole show for the first time at the Highland Park game this Friday and then again on Saturday at Mesquite Marching Festival. Area is less than a month away! Seems like things are aligning for everyone now....
  18. I think all the confusion is coming from the predictions page. It looks like someone accidentally copied the entire last half of the BOA San Antonio schedule onto the drop down menu for Arlington predictions, hence the inclusion of Reagan, The Woodlands, Langham Creek, Roma, etc.
  19. 20. That's a good point. Berkner hasn't gone to a BOA event since 2004 (which is the weakest show from them I've seen.) However, they were awesome in 05 and 06. I would love to see them make a big BOA comeback this year.
  21. Indeed it will be outrageous. However, I think Berkner needs to be considered as a possible finalist, perhaps even moreso than Langham Creek, Coppell, Cedar Park, and Cypress Falls. Now that Berkner has Frank Troyka on board, I imagine that they will be a bit more BOA friendly. Performance wise, they were pretty dang good last year and I can only see them getting better.
  22. Plano West is typically the weakest of the three Plano schools. Plano East is awesome and Plano is usually pretty good. I'm not predicting West to make finals here, but who knows.
  23. Yes it is NYC themed. They're playing selections from Richard Danielpour's "Urban Dances" and Leonard Bernstein's "On the Town Suite." I have no clue about Pearce or Sherman. Anyone care to enlighten us? It would be sweet if Akins went to MMF (at least I'm assuming that is where BassoonPadwan attends.) They would definitely shake up the 5A competition.
