2009 High School Shows
ftwdrummer replied to euphownz's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
The directors have dropped enough veiled hints for me to figure out what the show is...but the official announcement doesn't come until Monday. And I'll have to check with them to see if it's ok to post. -
how does the PIT earn their PE credit?
ftwdrummer replied to killer9705@yahoo.com's topic in Section Heaven
Well, we do, you know. Our practice field is 3 blocks away from our band hall, uphill both ways (literally...it's not much of an uphill going to the field, but the uphill back is killer). The tires on our cart refuse to stay inflated. That's one 50-pound or so cart (4 timpani, plus multiple stands, plus cymbals...) with flat tires. Add to this the fact that marimbas are just plain unwieldy. And then there's loading, where we basically end up lifting everything into the truck because the ramp isn't wide enough. And, for specialty athletic feats, there's what I had to pull off last year: pull on a space suit, over a band uniform, in a minute or less, without anyone seeing you. -
Not really rumors, just the directors being annoyed with themselves about procrastinating about telling us what it is... Should I be depressed that our band isn't doing BOA next year? or happy that they're taking a year off from it to help rebuild after losing a third of this year's band due to seniors graduating? or not care because I'm one of those seniors?

Am I wrong for feeling way down on this XMen show just because they're using Medea? I mean, it's well-used in marching band now...but I personally felt it was kinda sacred for drum corps, because of Star '93 (that feeling isn't hurt at all by Star '93 being my favorite show of all time). Any suggestions for getting over myself?

this post proves that your above question is a fallacy. Should I take it as a sign that, the last day I could've bought her the candygram, I was stuck at home with a fever? (and visions of matrix algebra en espanol dancing in my head?
-
Maybe...maybe not. I now can't decide if I want to get the girl I like a singing telegram (courtesy of choir), a candygram courtesy of the band boosters, or a "sonnet-o-gram" (one Shakespearean sonnet) courtesy of the theater group. Do I actually have a reason to be concerned about this, or am I just overthinking?
-
Getting the girl I'm interested in a singing telegram, courtesy of the school choir. Same question, to everyone else. (PS: Sorry about the thread awkwardness up there...)

Does the proposal for panels make any indication as to whether perc. will be in the box or on the field? As I recall, last year's five-judge panels had perc. in the box...and when you're an on-the-field percussion judge, usually (from my observation) your focus is on the battery, with pit seemingly becoming an afterthought. Re: Hopkin's proposal: any possibility to modify it to add a judge for overall GE? I know it pretty much counterbalances the premise of the modified panels, but it might be a nice compromise (if affordable). Also, you could use this fellow on the 5-judge panels instead of Vis. GE and Mus. GE for those (add a judge for guard to correlate with the judge added for percussion).

Concert Season 08-09
ftwdrummer replied to borchnork's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Figured it was about time to give this thing a bump... Paschal Wind Ensemble is playing: Florentiner March -Fucik, ed. Fennell Festivo -Gregson Jupiter [from The Planets] -Holst -
Dallas Wind Symphony just came out with a new CD of Grainger pieces...try that. Danpod: did you take the face plate off the radio when you grabbed the Twix bar, too? (BONUS QUESTION: Can anyone tell that I'm rather perturbed about this?)

Never heard of him/her/it... Why, oh why, did my car have to get broken into last Wednesday?

Solo & Ensemble
ftwdrummer replied to ndnorris7's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Musser Etude in C Major, Op. 6, No. 10, by Clair Omar Musser. Should be fun. Almost have it memorized...now for getting it close to tempo and cleaning it up. -
TMEA All-Area
ftwdrummer replied to TRtrumpet's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
For the first time ever, Paschal has TWO All-Staters simultaneously: a senior French horn player (the soloist in our show this past year, and an All-Stater last year), and a junior bass trombone. I...didn't go to Area. Didn't make it to Phase II at Region, actually (missed by one spot =/). -
Super Target. Closer (to me, anyway), and better employees. I heard on another forum that there's some rumor about Phantom's show. Anyone know anything about that?

Concert Season 08-09
ftwdrummer replied to borchnork's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
To revive this topic...on a completely different note: Is anyone here an upper woodwind who's done "Ride," by Hazo? If so, what upper ww's require double-tonguing? -
Now that I actually have stuff to go with my idea for "Pacific Overtures" (thank you, YouTube)... Here's the last number from Pacific Overtures: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utcd_sfrqC4...feature=channel The way I have it cut is still way too long (especially for UIL show length) at 3:54...but start at 0:58, cut form 3:09 to 4:10, and then cut from 5:03 to 5:32?
-
This is annoying...I can't get past 1:4.
