  1. I was able to make it to about 40 minutes of your rehearsal yesterday evening and the full run-through, and I am so glad I was able to make it. I absolutely love your musical selections, and the sounds you're putting out are amazing as well. Terrific sonority all around and great full ensemble. There were a few spots where I heard tearing. Mainly when there are the four large groups separated from one another...the woodwinds, low brass, high brass...etc...It makes it that much harder when you are that far away from one another. You cannot rely on your own pulse, or what you're hearing to stay together here. Also, when the students up front start their rhythmic chanting, they tend to rush a bit, adrenaline is a *****, but you have to be mindful of the one central pulse that is the drum major. Those are just a couple of minor things that I personally heard. The only other minor problem I saw was a few students anticipating their next set, which causes spacing to get off a bit at times...and maybe a few visual body-movement timing issues here and there. These are all just minor things, and I know ya'll are going to do fantastic at GN. I'll be cheering for you here in montgomery county via the live webcast! I'm so excited...
  2. I'll try and stop by on my way home from work. My high school band wasn't very good, so it's nice to have an amazing one right up the road!
  3. ...but then again some of the usual competition probably wouldn't come because THEIR added travel...
  4. This contest is one of THE main reasons I think Grand Nationals should move from year to year!!! ...or at least to a more central location. I know this has been discussed many times in the past...but I still stand by my opinion. I think that it were ever held in Texas, we would without a doubt dominate the competition...
  5. I'm all out of possible theories...I don't see how performance time could have had anything to do it...or at least it shouldn't have affected it that much...
  6. I am speechless...I kind of agree with the top 15 or so, but after that, some of the scores seem very, very off... I honestly cannot believe that Clear Brook got 35th!!!! ..or how did Wakeland got 26th... ...I watched the live feeds, and maybe I missed something major....but I'm just astounded by Clear Brook's score... Can anyone tell me if they had some major issue that could have kept them from scoring higher??????
  7. I have to say that I'm very disappointed Clear Brook didn't make finals. They definately have my favorite show of the year. Three more weeks to clean before GN. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they get close to finals this year!
  8. Here is what I can find, as far as results go, for this contest. Does anyone have a full breakdown of the results, or do they not post that anywhere? My high school band was there, as no-name as they may be, and I was curious as to how they did. The 2009 GPISD Marching Band Festival was held on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at the Galena Park ISD Athletic Stadium. Twenty-eight bands performed their UIL competition show for three band and colorguard judges who evaluated their performances. Eighteen bands were entered in Class 5A and ten bands entered in Class 4A. Awards were presented for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each class as well as overall awards for most outstanding colorguard and percussion units (regardless of classificiation). Class 4A Awards 1st Place - Little Cypress Mauriceville High School 2nd Place - Huntsville High School 3rd Place - Manvel Class 5A Awards 1st Place - Dickinson High School 2nd Place - Langham Creek High School 3rd Place - Cy-Fair High School Overall Outstanding Percussion Dickinson High School Overall Outstanding Colorguard Langham Creek High School
  9. You're right. They were. ....but I still make a valid point! Maybe they will make finals, maybe they won't. Who really knows?
  10. Yeah....and Brazoswood was 3rd in prelims and got 7th in finals, Friendswood was 6th in prelims and got 9th in finals....Every band was placed differently from prelims to finals, except for SFA. Nobody really knows who will score where. We could have the same set of judges judge the same contest and get different results every time. It all depends on what their taste and mood is like that day...
  11. This list looks nice, except for I would put Cypress Falls somewhere between 3-7
  12. I was able to attend finals tonight, and I happened to miss Friendswood's show. I have to say that my two favorite shows would have to be The Woodlands and Clear Brook. The Woodlands always has such complex shows! They have so much going on at one time, and they never seem to stop from start to finish. My favorite show of the night has to go to Clear Brook. Very, very creative with their Repeat them. Having the announcer repeat their introduction and repeating the beginning of their show. I was distracted by their recorded intro, then realized what was going on. I'm pretty sure they had a great GE score. It can only get better for all of the bands that performed tonight! I can't wait to see how they do in San Antonio and Grand Nationals for those that attend!!
  13. ...just found this on Marcus' homepage! http://www.marcusband.com/ This title could respresent so many different themes! Any thoughts?!
  14. What do you mean? Are you asking this in regards to something in particular?
  15. I put this in the other GN thread too, but I just want to make sure it's heard... I am so SHOCKED that Colleyville Heritage didn't make semis. They had a terrific run this morning, and their sound was far superior to many of the other bands who were picked to go on. Maybe it was their early time that hurt them. I thoroughly enjoyed their show!!!!!!!!!!! I don't even know these kids and I can tell you that I was drawn into their show from start to finish and I even woke up early this morning to see them.....
