  1. I'd love to have a Spades club... or a Heart club... do we have a cards club in general?
  2. Ha... I was thinking the same thing to myself. I just hope the younger kids in our program don't let this get to their head. While the juniors and seniors have seen the agony of getting close to making state but then not doing it (like our first state year), the underclassmen haven't yet. I hope they realize they have to keep workin' for it once we're gone. I want the program to keep getting stronger after I'm gone, not weaker like a lot of upperclassmen are predicting. Our band program has accomplished so much since it's been open and especially in the past year (2nd at honor band and now state), and I'm so grateful to be a part of it. It's a pretty amazing experience. P.S. You guys can keep agreeing with ddm's comment and whatnot, but it's not going to make me reply to it. I'm not going to change my mind on what I said, but it's cool. No worries, though, gracely. It's all good.
  3. If you go to our band website, www.centennialband.com and click on Centennial Marching Festival (somewhere in the top right corner, I think) you can find detailed information including a schedule... I think east is gonna take the contest.
  4. No kidding. Between preparing for state, our marching contest, an away game.. then getting up to work all day at the contest (I can't believer you're only working one shift, Michael)... I mean geesh... then state... Hosting our own marching contest and then goign to state is probably pretty stressful on our band director, and the poor guy is stressed enough as is. And lol... I thought we were talking about making finals at CMF.. I was like... we can't make finals because we're not competing. We're exhibition lol.
  5. Most bands I watch do straight-legged so there's nothing new there. Umm... Michael covered all the bad injuries, but he forgot another horn players. Didn't Chelsie get injured pretty hardcore and then she just got up and continued on afterwards?
  6. LOL... I don't think California is very stable with those misc. mudslides and weird weather.
  7. AND HAHAHAHA. Go pick up a trombone where it doesn't matter. BWAHAHA.
  8. Whoa that's a long guide. I didn't think it was that complicated. Here's something our assistant band director told me when I had issues playing high (on baritone). Everyoen always says small hole, fast air, don't pinch, but she told me "... why don't you try aiming the air downward so it bounces around more?" and BAM! That was all I was missing. Most people do it naturally, but I didn't. So, maybe that applies to trumpets too? And I agree with ^^^^^^^^. Never pinch or use a lot of pressure. Your tone will be gross.
  9. Awww... poor tuba. We all know that most of us are gonna pick our own instrument. I think the question should be "what's your fav. brass instrument besides your own?" Well... I love the french horn when it's played well and not cracking a bunch. 'Course... it's hard to not crack and be a really good horn player.
  10. I was soooo impressed with Wakeland's show when I saw it. I was not expecting it to be THAT good. I felt threatened, and it takes a lot for Centennial band members to be threatened by another school in Frisco. In a few years... whoaaaa is Wakeland gonna be a 4A powerhouse. Of course, you have to become a 4A first.
  11. Eric's really egotistical. I spent the better part of the last half hour telling him that he can't take the 4A state hype away from us right now lol... even if east is good.
  12. The real question is... during area week (last week... like Monday when we rehearsed in the freezing wind an drain and poor Wang almost died falling off the podium) and state week (this week) does it really matter what the weather's like? You're gonna rehearse either way. And cold weather, in my book, is welcome. You're gonna be so hot that it's nice to be cooled off the second you stand still for a second and breathe.
  13. LOL... I was thinking about how people are using synths to crank up the rock beats, and we're using the synth as a harp-double. Haha. Was it Lewisville that cranked up the synth and the bass guitar and did that AMAZING rock thing with the sax quartet?
  14. That article was beautifully written. I dug it. I do have to wonder though (with absolutely no offense meant) if you took your predictions from previous state qualifiers. It's one thing to genuinely think bands A, B, and C are best and will make it, but it's another thing to assume bands A, B, and C will make it because they made it last time. I agreed with most of your predictions except area B and area D. I'm a big believer in Connaly. I think I turned out to be right there.
  15. That's pretty freakin' sweet. It really shows just how fast-paced PR (and DCI in general) shows are. I'm gonna guess the person taping was in the soprano line! lol (either that or a baritone is my guess)
  16. Yeah... but they're not, and... allen doesn't really march a lot of underclassmen. If you combine you guys and Clark, for example, I don't think you'd still have as many people in the band. But size has nothign to do with winning. It's gonna be a pretty cool contest... especially with most of the area B state people competing (and us exhibitioning so all of them playing) and then to add on 5A powerhouses like east... Geeshhh.
  17. I'm genuinely offended, and you would be, too. "BARELY" makes it sound as if we weasled our way in or we jumped eight spots. We actually moved down one spot from prelims to finals so.. we nowhere near "barely" made anything. And if you had seen us last year, you should've known that we were up and coming since in our... five whole years of existence, we've gone from being a new band to being a band that never once HASN'T made finals at our contests in the past few years. In fact, I think we actually beat birdville at a contest last year. I'm offended that it sounds as if we don't deserve the spot. We deserve it as much as everyone else. And... especially on this forum, I think more people were predicting us to make state than Birdville. For anyone Birdville kids reading this, I genuinely liked your show. Good job. This is our second year having a state year, and we worked our butts off as much as everyone else who made it... if not more because we're such a young school.
  18. I'm the stupid-face who signs up for two/three shifts that are apart bc of lack of people working them. I'm working from 8-1230 then 400-830... So... I'll probably go home and sleep in between since we have to do our exhibition and whatnot.
  19. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Too easy. Be My Escape- Relient K (was my favorite song forevahhh) Ummm... what next? Mr. Blue Sky please tell us why you had to hide away for soooo long Where did we go wrong?
  20. Our head band director turns 28 tomorrow... I mean today. It is midnight after all. We all group hugged him and gave him birthday cakes and whatnot. It was pretty awesome. I've never had an old director.
  21. Barely getting a spot? Excuse me. We got 3rd in prelims, and if I remember correctly, two judges had us as 1st. Not to argue over this, but... get your facts straight. Congrats to Sherman, Aledo, and the Colony
  22. Officially... since I'm about to head up to our rehearsal and then to area... GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! No regrets, mmkay?
