Call Carolyn and schedule a meeting with her. When I bought my Miyazawa, we spent three hours non-stop for me just to try flutes. I think I played on more than 20 or 30 different instruments before I decided which MODEL I wanted, then I played on like 4 different versions of that model before I found MY instrument. And Carolyn is a goddess at fixing instruments. So I would follow the advice of her teacher.

Honestly, I wouldn't buy a Pearl. They are sturdy instruments, but there are FAR Better flutes out there. Go to www.flute4u.com That's the website for Carolyn Nussbaum's flute shop in Plano, TX. That's where I got my concert flute, and it's my baby. =] I haven't played on anything better in my life. Some of the top brands I'd look at are: Miyazawa (I have the Miyazawa Classic... expensive, yes, but well worth every dollar) Jupiter Trevor James (These flutes used to be CRAP! But they've cleaned up REALLY nicely and are extremely nice for the price) Miramatsu (Not as nice as the past three, but still pretty nice) Powell (Our flute player that was first chair for the last 3 years played on one of these, and it had the most gorgeous tone I've EVER heard out of a flute) Those won't do you wrong! They are pretty pricey... but Carolyn usually has used instruments that are almost as good as new, some even better than new, for like half the price.

Band Trips
borchnork replied to MaverickBand15's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
My four years we did Corpus first, San Antonio 2nd (my least favorite trip personally...) Galveston was Jr. Year and this past year we went to Washington DC. It was awesome. =] -
Uh... major change for me. I'm only going to be at UNT for a semester now, then I'm going to try to transfer into Georgetown, George Washington or American Universities. I've changed my major as well from music comp./ed to political science and pre-law. It's weird to think I'm not doing music anymore though...

I heard that Marcus is still doing a themed esque show like they have been... but not the cheery Marcus show we are used to... Maybe Bell and Marcus will switch places on ideas??? That'd provide for an interesting competition! -

AND Rush Hour. Most amazing string quartet EVER written. -
probably thinks the best instrument there is a percussion one... which would make her incredibly mistaken. =]

that's very ambitious thinking right there... I looked at our football schedule and it's going to be harder next year than it was this year. I think our football team has it in them to do well next year, cus after all we DID beat the first place team in district by over 30 points... Anyways, for 5A band, I would have said that I could expect to see Mansfield Timberview making top 5 at least in Area B next year... but then they moved to 4A... =[ -
has a name that relates to playing trumpet, but has a picture of him playing the saxophone...

Our last concert was last night. It was perfect. =] We played Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral as our last song and it ends at like quintuple forte (or at least, our version did. lol). It was so loud and it was just perfect... like in-tune and balanced and everything. As soon as we were done playing a guy in the audience was just like "WOAH!" hahaha. it was the most memorable concert I've had, and I'm glad my band career ended that way.

So I went to our guard clinic for next years girls. There were I think 40 girls signed up!!! Only like 5 returning girls, but there are one or two future freshmen that have quite a lot of potential. Sadly though, our luck always leaves us with less than half the girls in guard at the end of marching season that originally signed up. I'm thinking we'll have about 15-20 girls next year.
