  1. I would love it if we would play that in wind ensemble at my school.
  2. I hate it when band directors stop for too long between movements. Our director did that both this year and last year. I'm sure he'll speed things up for UIL, though. By the way, one of the guys taking swings at the corner was me. We were damaging one of the bats so our third friend wouldn't have a good one to use. It gave us the advantage when we had our whiffle-ball bat fight after we had finished cleaning up the school and were fixing to leave.
  3. Nobody did April Fool's jokes today so this one really got me. Good job.
  4. Yeah Danpod covered it for me. I'd just like to mention that the whole being under the silk sheets for such a long time doesn't make much of a difference. If you cut out the part of the show that they hid under the sheets and didn't seem to be playing (although I've heard that they were playing but you couldn't hear on a recording) then they still would have played and marched an amazing show that was just as hard and just as long as any of the other top bands at the contest. L.D. Bell just pushed it to extra lengths to give their show some extreme emotions to please the judges but also the crowd. This doesn't mean you have to enjoy their show. That is purely opinion. You should, however, acknowledge the fact that their music and drill was very challenging and they executed their show better than any of the other bands. Because of this, they won.
  5. That's good. I'm sure you all will have straight one's by UIL. Your program is amazing. And the cafeteria thing was no problem. It was fun actually. We found whiffle ball bats backstage and a couple of us were having whiffle ball bat fights.
  6. I'm not sure about your scores. After you all finished sightreading, all of us Southwest helpers had to put the cafeteria and auditorium back together. By the time we were done, we were exhausted and didn't think to ask. I'd be surprised, however, if you didn't get straight ones. Awayday sounded pretty good. I mean, it could use a little work but it's only Pre-UIL so I'm sure it'll be great by UIL.
  7. Didn't know about the mini-MeetMe until just now. Oh well. You all were pretty good. Lincolnshire Posy sounded great. The horn section was amazing. Reese is a beast.
  8. Yeah, we're playing all four. It's a great piece. Both of our bands got straight first divisions today in UIL. We're happy. I'm looking forward to hearing Paschal's performance tomorrow. I'm working stage crew so I'll be there.
  9. As said above, our school is hosting Fort Worth's Pre-UIL tomorrow and Friday. Our two or three bands are performing first tomorrow since we're hosting. Our top band is performing Americans We, Symphony No. 3: Slavyanskaya, and Redline Tango at 4:15 tomorrow. I'm assuming the rest of the varsity groups are performing on Friday. So if anyone wants to come listen to Fort Worth's bands (Paschal, Western Hills, and Southwest in particular) we'll all be performing at various times tomorrow and Friday. Aledo's director is coming to hear us play Slavyanskaya tomorrow. That ought to be fun.
  10. I'm going on a solo. I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to play. I have to talk to my lessons teacher about it. Him and I are wanting me to do something different for state but if I don't find something, I'll have to play Hunter's Moon, the solo I made state on.
  11. Yeah, our director hasn't mentioned it since then. Anyway, we made a recording for Midwest today. We played Americans We and excerpts from Symphony No. 3 Slavyanskaya and Redline Tango. I really enjoy our program.
  12. After hearing Avon march part of Verdi's Requiem, it's become one of my favorites. I finally downloaded it so now I have the full 40 or so minutes of greatness. I would be so happy to play that or 1812 Overture. Both are two of my favorite pieces to listen to right now.
  13. Going to state on my solo. Didn't do an ensemble.
  14. We're still not sure if we're playing Red Line Tango. We only have three horns in our top band so us three our covering four parts. We did this last year, too, and it wasn't too bad but the third horn may be failing a class. If she does, that would leave two of us to cover four parts and that's not happening. If we don't end up playing Red Line Tango, I'm not sure what we'll play. With only two horns, I'm not sure if we'd be able to play Four Scottish Dances which was kind like our back up piece.
  15. Apparently Aledo is playing Slavyanskaya, like us. Our director talked to their director at the TMEA convention and yesterday he said something about how we might do a large concert with Aledo's top band and our top band. It'd be interesting.
  16. Haha, yeah, horn domination. There are are some corrections that should be made. First off, there was an error made a couple of posts up that caused the game to end with horns having 187 when they should've had 189. Secondly, the game started with 190 points divided evenly between 19 instruments. By the end of the game, the last instrument was supposed to have all 190 of those points. That means there was an error made a while back that someone didn't catch so the final score is really: Horns: 190 All other instruments: 0
  17. Yeah, I'm still a sophomore but I already know I'm going to dread leaving high school band. I don't think I'll be doing marching band in college unless I get a scholarship for music and they require me to be in the marching band. I just want to be in the wind ensemble. I love concert season.
  18. Rolling Thunder is a good piece and with a trombone section as good as that, you all will make it sound great. On a somewhat related note, we have a recording of Rolling Thunder in which our head band director conducted and our assistant band director played solo bass clarinet with the trombones. He played the recording about a month ago and it was the first time I found out that our assistant band director was in band under the conduction of our head band director in high school.
  19. Yeah, I agree. I haven't played yet but I can't wait until next year's concert season just for that movement of Symphonic Metamorphosis. Maybe it's cause I'll be first horn next year and the horn parts in the March are freaking awesome. On a side note, we got Red Line Tango. The piece changes time signature almost every measure or every other measure. It's crazy. But the soprano solo sounds so cool.
  20. Haha, 65. That would be horrible. Trumpet 4 (-) Horns 185 (+)
  21. Trumpet 9 (-) Horns 180 (+)
  22. Trumpet 12 (-) Horns 177 (+)
  23. Trumpet 14 (-) Horns 175 (+)
  24. Trumpet 20 (-) Horns 169 (+)
