  1. Yup, from what I've seen and heard Mineola has rebranded their contest and Farmersville has committed to it. I know Farmersville typically always goes to the Mineola contests in the past and has had a lot of success not to mention some of their 4A competitors go there as well so it's a good spot to gauge where you stand in the middle of the season. Not to take away from Aubrey, I'm sure there will be some good bands there as well.
  2. The contest last year was a huge event with around 29 bands if I remember. There were 5 2A's, 11 3A's, 5 4A's, 7 5A's and 1 6A School. This is a list of the schools that made it and placed it finals. I could see with the improvements going on in Celina and based on schedule how this could be an event for bigger schools. It's hard to predict who is coming until everyone starts putting out their calendar and sometimes things change at the last minute where schools drop and schools ask if they can join. 12th Place South Garland (5A) 11th Place Queen City (3A) 10th Place Denison (5A) 9th Place Wills Point (4A) 8th Place Howe (3A) 7th Place Community (4A) 6th Place Terrell (5A) 5th Place Van Alstyne (4A) 4th Place North Lamar (4A) 3rd Place Mineola (3A) 2nd Place Farmersville (4A) 1st Place Red Oak (5A)
  3. I don't see how Mt. Pleasant would help most of the schools that are in the Area. It's going to cause a longer drive for most of the schools and the competition that Mount Pleasant hosts is Regionals which bands show up, perform, get scores and leave. They are not there all day long which is what it would be for 20+ 4A Bands.
  4. There are several places in the Area that could host it. The problem is who wants to do it, there are several schools that have nice facilities but don't want to go through the trouble of hosting a huge event. I don't think Gilmer would be an option because it's more deeper east that would cause most schools that were in this Area to drive another hour at least to get there.
  5. Isn't Celina getting a new high school and splitting into 2 high schools? I don't know if that would prevent the move to 5A.
  6. Another thing about the Melissa contest is that it is a concrete jungle with it being early in the school year. There is no where to escape the sun and it can play a factor in early and middle of the day bands performing.
  7. Nope, it's usually a pretty good contest. However, I know a couple of schools that went last year are planning on going somewhere else. Of course schedules could change.
  8. 3A Mineola made finals 2 yrs ago and 4A Celina made finals last year. It's going to be hard for a 4A to make finals because this contest now going into it's 3rd year is going to heavily attended by 5A/6A bands. You might get 1 or 2 4A's but they got to be exceptional.
  9. Mineola Iron Horse Marching Classic - October 4th (9 Bands Already Confirmed)
  10. If you are in Area B this is your year to try and step up because I have a feeling in 2026-2027 some of the Area C schools will come back to Area B to try and round it out a bit more.j I agree as well, several good bands in Area B but after the Top 3 it kind of drops. Sure, there could be some dark horses but until they get out in competition and take on some of the Area C's I don't see much changing here.
  11. I also agree that I don't see much of anything changing. It's going to be another bloodbath this upcoming season and unless you have something that just blows away what you did last year then good luck! This upcoming year is also the year before reclassification so it's curious to see if some of these schools will move up to 5A or stay in 4A. I know the 5A cut off numbers will go up but how much is unknown. As far as the Lindale stadium goes, its a nice place but it's a difficult place to get in and out of when you got 23 4A bands competing. I also remember weather was a factor as well. Lindale is actually doing road construction as we speak to the school I believe to improve it. Yes, there were some bands that travelled along way away but that's how the lines got drawn unfortunately and will probably be redrawn for the 26-27 season. Yes, we all hope that there can be a center place for Area but it's hard in band especially in Area C. I doubt you will probably ever seen Area C down in far south east Texas because 3/4 of the schools are in NE Texas. I know that was an issue for 3A Area C as they were having it down at SFA and most of the schools competing in that were over 2 hours away hence I think that was the reason they moved it this past year.
  12. This Melissa contest is worth the money to attend. There are some heavy heavy heavy hitters in this. Yes it is early in the contest season but it's defiantly a measuring stick for your program against other big hitters.
  13. Looks like this could be a nice event for some schools to join. Good job on getting schools to book already before the school year is out.
  14. Unless something crazy happens and the UIL cutoffs numbers rise a bit I see several schools competing at 4A for the last time in the 2025 school year. I bet some schools will survive but just barely.
  15. I was at the Celina Competition they hosted this year to watch Celina, North Lamar, Farmersville and Mineola and a person working there told me they are in the process of building a 2nd high school. I know there is a tremendous amount of school construction going on there.
  16. Well under the current threshold yes, but UIL always raises the cutoffs to try and keep an even number of schools in each classification. There were several schools last year that were over the threshold for going up to 4A and going up to 5A but when UIL released the cutoffs they stayed where they were because the cutoffs got raised. I figured Panther Creek is a 100% moving up. I might be wrong but last year the school was only 9th/10th grade right and they added 11th this year?
  17. I think you will see several of the usual players that are involved on a yearly basis. I do think based on student counts that were turned in for this year and if the trend continues next year then there will be several schools jumping to 5A for the 2026 yr. Of course the question would be where would the cutoff number be. I expect the number to go up but how much is to be determined.
  18. Mineola did it 3 times in a row in 3A before getting 2nd place last year. They won their 4th State Title this year out of the last 5 Competitions.
  19. UIL many years ago use to post the Raw scores from each Judge in each State Competition so you could actually see how close the scoring was. Now, they only post rankings from each judge on the schools. So, if a school was ranked 2nd and another 3rd. You don't know how far apart it was or was it really close. The directors have the raw scores but most of them do not share that stuff online.
  20. Prelims looked to be a blowout on the score card. The Finals had the top 3 separated by 2pts. Panther Creek/Davenport tied but because 4 of the 7 judges had Panther over Davenport so Panther gets 2nd.
  21. I know several years ago UIL use to post the ordinals after the contests online so people could see how close it was and then they stopped doing it and now just show you placement for each judge.
  22. So Panther Creek, Sulphur Springs, China Springs, Celina and Davenport are the Top 5 in some order after prelims.
