Do not sleep on Lone Star cracking the finals here. They're off to a great start to competition season with a win at Melissa and were neck-and-neck with Boyd at Wylie for 2nd/3rd. That middle block of prelims should be insane.

How do you judge that show? Great vocals, visuals and soloists but the rest of the band — and marching? — seems to get lost in this show minus the two spots where the brass brings the thunder.

To say that is extremely unnecessary and naive. A few schools have started to close that gap. Wakeland is a very good band, but they're not unbeatable, as this season has shown. And in 6A, watch out for Rock Hill. New kids on the block are bringing it. They're traveling. That electric guitar solo is edgy. And the entire show, capped by that closing dance number, is fun. Can't wait to see what they do next.
