Time to start making my inaccurate finalist placements!

Definitely better than last year. I feel that the camera panning and zooming is more purposeful, as in the camera points to the important parts at the right time. Feels like the technicians are more experienced

And If I have this right (correct me if I’m not) this is the finalists breakdown by major city: DFW- 6 Houston- 4 Austin- 3 San Antonio- 1

Area B (3)- Coppell, Keller, Waxahachie Area C (3)- Marcus, Hebron, Flower Mound Area D (2)- Ronald Reagan, Round Rock Area E (1)- Pearland Area F (1)- The Woodlands Area H (2)- Vandegrift, Vista Ridge Area I (2)- Bridgeland, Cy-Fair

I also think the lead up and climax in the ballad are “The Red Sea” from Prince of Egypt!

My only surprise was no CTJ. I felt the returning finalists were killing it this year so I had them all coming back to finals. When I first saw Bridgeland’s show I thought “wow this is so good” there was something special about their performance but I just didn’t realize it was THAT good this year.

Well I got 12/14 finalists right so yay for me lol. I couldn’t really figure out who be those last one or two. 12 out of 14 of last year’s returning finalist returned to state and made finals, one of them was first out. So cool to see programs maintain such a high standard year to year.

I just realized that Hebron’s closer is “Go the distance” from Hercules!

My apologies. This is bridgelands first time as well. On the smbc archives it says “finals” for 2020 but that was the covid year and they only had one round of performances.

This is cy-fair and Bridgeland’s first time in finals at the state level. AMAZING!

I swear I’ve never seen so many contenders before. Like every time a group comes I think “oh yeah they can make finals” and then someone else comes on and I’m like ugh why is this so hard lol

I’m so impressed by the proficiency of the returning finalist as well as all the other competitors today. So difficult to decide. I loved watching the performances i was able to catch on the live stream, which in my opinion lived up to the hype because the panning and zooming is soooo much better. It looks like people with experience did the camera work.

I saw someone say that they eventually did not get DQ’ed. Can anyone confirm this?

I’m trying so hard to figure out who I will pick as my 14th finalist because I predict that the returning 13 finalists are locks. Lol

Those woodwind runs would. not. freaking. stop!!! My goodness most bands stop after a couple of bars but not only did they play for ages but they also did so while on the move! And hello upper registers in the clarinets and flutes? Everyone knows how hard it is to get quality intonation out from those sections in that range but Hebron’s performers just handle it like it was nothing!🤯

That rule is honestly archaic and callous. A disqualification for going over by a few seconds? I understand that judges want things to be done in a timely manner but for Christ sake, have some sympathy! The penalty should be way less severe
