I did. The member she ran into wasn’t too happy with it. Really bad to get that on camera but recovered fast enough that I couldn’t see anything after the camera moved away. Well done by Vandy, especially the last statement of Bon Iver by the mellophones. Love that!

Since China Spring is in the discussion, anyone want to hear me do an hour-long critique of them?

The discussion is regarding the State marching contest. Sorry for any confusion.

So I graduated from CS. I can say with a high degree of confidence(I am now a music major) that the cluster chord to f open 5th warmup(DCI warmup) has been happening for years, and for good reason. It helps get the kids used to the playing environment and gives them an opportunity to hear what it will sound like. Tuning and listening varies from place to place, so it’s a good way to alleviate some of that stress. They do tend to go the DCI style, which I love, but I understand it’s not for everyone. I would also like to add that the original post was in reaction to the Melissa Marching Showcase, which was a month ago. They have gotten better since then.

That is how it worked last year. For example, China Spring drew 1st out of all state qualifying bands for finals performance order last year. They got 2nd in prelims, so in finals they performed 6th at the beginning of the top 5 prelims bands.

AAAAHHHHHH Finally a good area run from cs everything below cs though is pretty wild to me

Any news on finals performances? I know CS doesn’t go till 11:30(horrible draw whew) and I’m an alum. While I’m waiting, however, I watched the prelims run video and it wasn’t bad. Lot of small problems that I heard and saw though. That’s the hardest thing to get rid of.

I have witnessed the Midway Marching Preview, and full disclosure - I am a CS alum and teched for them over the summer. That is the best I've heard CS sound this early in the season. Once that thing cleans up, it's going to be pretty hard to stop. Apparently the judges agree since they got 4th(highest placement at Midway ever). Have to say that's higher than I had them.

Interesting that their I See the Light arrangement has the exact solos as the one I did. Good to know I'm not totally incompetent at arranging.

I’m just spitballing here but the wild variation in scoring is influenced by the fact that the judge panel is completely different for prelims and finals right? There’s 10 judges and 5 spots so they must switch out? I don’t know I’m trying to figure it out; it wouldn’t shock me to find out that’s true tbh
