2022 BOA San Antonio (Nov. 4 & 5)
cjm715 replied to LeanderMomma's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I think of this list westlake, round rock and coppell are the most likely bubbles to make it over the others. however that’s not to say to under estimate the others, ld bell was on fire at area last night and they could make their way back in to finals as well. however hendrickson and cy fair could also come out no where and be a surprise! I’d like to see that honestly, a new kid on the block. Man, it really is a bubble of death lol -
so proud of ld bell and duncanville for returning to the state marching band contest!! but you know what else, i’m proud of timber creek! they’ve truly stepped it up, last year finally making it to state and now this year being area medalists. any of these 3 programs could be state finalists again coming here soon!

I could definitely see pearland becoming another texas powerhouse in the coming years. Their show design has already drastically improved with wes cartwright and with Sfa’s old director now helming the program their visual proficiency has improved as well. I’m looking forward to their future! -
solid run from ld bell, happy to see my alma mater doing well!

GE usually comes down to show design. Different effects created in the shows and what not as well as how high the ensemble is executing the show in general. For a music ge example, 2 bands are playing the same piece for the ballad and it’s really beautiful. Band #1 is a decent band and they pull the piece off pretty well, chances are they get a decent music ge score from the ballad. Band #2 is excellent and it literally sends shivers down the judge’s spine, chances are the music ge score for them will be much higher. For visual ge, colorguard plays a huge part in that as well as what kind of effects the ensemble can create visually. -

Broken Arrow won’t be going next year, they go 2 years and skip 1. That is unless they break that cycle and go just to screw with hebron lol. Believe me, I do not want to be thinking about 2023 just yet -

it’s nice to see another bell alum on these forums! i agree with a lot of what you said, their music this year has a lot more content than when i marched and they move and play quite a bit too. I like also how you said bell knows how to play in boa. You don’t need a super mega powerful hornline that will blow your ears off, all it takes is a well designed show and you’ll be all set. But all a lot of people here in texas just seemingly care about is just how many notes and how loud a hornline can play. -

They just changed the brass parts in that moment after their heb exhibition so it’s still pretty fresh. -

I’ve seen the opposite actually, in 2013 coppell went from 6th in prelims to 12th in finals at san antonio. -

I don’t know how well Bell will fair this year, being an alumni of the program I want to see them do very well of course. A lot of people were saying that they wouldn’t do too well at this contest last year and they did just fine. It sounds like however a lot of bands made a very strong showcase at Heb this weekend. I’m not sure how everyone compares since BOA sheets will be all different but the fight for the 6th spot will be pretty intense I will say. -
I really wish I could afford to make a spontaneous trip up to st. louis this year, being in college doesn’t really help with that. Ugh. That being said, I saw Ld Bell perform last night at their new district band bash and I gotta say they are miles ahead of where they were last year. I was initially worried when I found out that they had dropped cartwright as their program coordinator due to what happened last time they tried that, but I think they’re going to be just fine. This might be one of the most colorful bell shows ever! I look forward to seeing this show completed, rumor has it they’re almost finished. Again, looking forward to seeing my alumnus doing well. Saw Lake Travis at BOA Austin last weekend and I’m seeing them at Katy tomorrow. The show this year seems to be a little easier in my opinion, but that’s not a bad thing in the slightest. They might not be awarded as many points for technicality and blah blah blah but they are going to have a much easier time cleaning the show. Doing an all Schoenberg show is a pretty interesting and different choice but I think they’re making it work pretty well. Overall I think they have a chance to have a better placement at this contest than they did the last time they took the trip up. Wishing Lake Travis the best this year! Overall? Go Team Texas!! (we need more from texas going) But go Team Texas!!
