  1. Through the first three bands here. Really good performances by all groups so far. That Knox City show looks like a lot of fun. I think they're the leader in the clubhouse so far, but the remaining four will have something to say about that.
  2. I'll just add on here that the judging format is also different at state versus area. Area has a five judge panel with just music and visual captions (music judges look at analysis, woodwinds, brass and percussion on the same sheet and visual judges look at individual and ensemble on the same sheet). At state it's a seven judge panel with music analysis, woodwinds, brass and percussion being their own separate caption/judge and visual analysis (ensemble) and individual visual being separate captions/judges as well as a design/content judges. Should area now move to the seven judge system? I personally think so, but that's an offseason discussion.
  3. That McKinney North show is ridiculously fun! Great performance and congrats on a great season! Hope to see you again tomorrow.
  4. Same here with the buffering stream. Well, I had it for a moment there and then back to buffering. Someone is having a really, really bad day in the Alamodome today. Would not want to be them right now.
  5. They turned in an enrollment of 1,166 according to Matt Stepp and the Dave Campbell's Texas Football crew. Last year, the cutoff for 4A/5A was 1,299. That number will likely change, but it will probably go up. Unless that's an incorrect number or something out of the blue happens with realignment, they will be 4A again the next two years.
  6. They turned in 1,166 for Snapshot Day on Friday, which the UIL will use for classification. So I believe they will stay 4A (but it is the UIL, so who knows). https://www.texasfootball.com/article/2023/10/25/2023-uil-snapshot-day-enrollment-figures
  7. PC was 1-1-7 in music. In other news, I'm getting on the "get rid of using ordinals" train again.
  8. Congrats to Celina for your state title! And congrats to everyone for outstanding runs tonight and absolutely amazing seasons! Way too early prediction for next year: Panther Creek will win the 4A title in 2024. Super impressive performances from them.
  9. YES! THEY DID IT! THEY ACTUALLY DID IT!!!!!!
  10. Meanwhile as we wait, we head to the bottom of the ninth in Phoenix. Oh boy.
  11. Absolutely amazing runs from everyone tonight! I've got Anna, Celina, Panther Creek, China Spring and Sulpher Springs as my top five in that order. But I'm not 100 percent confident in that. Will be a great grand finale coming up!
  12. Great job, Sulphur Springs! Love Niagra Falls in the closer. So glad I'm not a judge for this contest.
  13. Not until the 27th out is recorded. Learned my lesson in 2011 the hard way.
  14. Yeah, personally I have it Anna - Celina - Panther Creek, although it's a 1) a, b and c type of situation. All with amazing performances tonight. But take that with a massive grain of salt. I'm just a guy on my couch trying not to panic about the Rangers game at the moment.
  15. Seeing Anna and Panther Creek back-to-back, I think I have to give the slightest of edges to Anna. But oh boy is it going to be close.
  16. Canyon, I absolutely love your closer. "Saturn" by Sleeping at Last is a favorite song of mine and your arrangement and performance of it is spectacular! Congrats on making state finals!
  17. Dave Campbell's Texas Football's Matt Stepp has a running list of all enrollment numbers he's received so far (free article): https://www.texasfootball.com/article/2023/10/25/2023-uil-snapshot-day-enrollment-figures Some numbers to note: Allen - 6,947 Mansfield, Lake Ridge and Legacy are all locks to stay 6A McKinney North turned in 2,273, which puts them on the bubble for the 6a/5a split Aledo turned in 2,267, which puts them in the same position as McKinney North Highland Park turned in 2,165, which probably puts them back into 5a I haven't seen a number yet, but Stepp has said that Desoto will likely turn in 5a numbers, but opt up to 6a (likely to stay in a closer athletic district)
  18. So MISD hasn't rezoned in a while, but they will for the 25-26 school year to alleviate overcrowding at Mansfield, Lake Ridge and Legacy and to boost Summit and Timberview's numbers (which is greatly needed from a band perspective).
  19. 7:15 p.m. - Calallen 7:30 p.m. - West Plains 7:45 p.m. - Canyon 8:00 p.m. - North Lamar 8:15 p.m. - Davenport 8:30 p.m. - Panther Creek 8:45 p.m. - Anna 9:00 p.m. - Celina 9:15 p.m. - Sulpher Springs 9:30 p.m. - China Spring Congrats to everyone who performed today! Y'all were amazing. And a big congrats to those moving onto tonight's finals!
  20. Here come the drum majors. They'll recognize each competing band, and then we'll find out who our 10 bands advancing to finals will be.
  21. I'm not because I missed a few bands due to work. Also knowing me, I would a million miles off the final rankings anyway.
  22. Summit played it for their closer in 2007, when I was in eighth grade. Went to all but one football game that year as well as the Region contest, so I heard it a lot and fell in love with it. It's a great piece.
  23. Spectacular show, Bridge City! Absolutely stunning clarinet solo there at the end. Such a fun show. Congrats on a great season, and hopefully we'll see you in finals tonight! (Been thinking that for a lot of groups today.)
  24. Yeah, Gatesville, that was awesome! Loved the ballad, and I'm always a fan of "Joy" (closer). Congrats on an outstanding season!
  25. Heck yeah, Canyon! Absolutely loved your closer. "Saturn" by Sleeping at Last is an amazing choice, and y'all performed the heck out of it. Congrats, and hopefully we see you again in finals tonight!
