and congrats to Leander ISD for once again holding the TWO state champions for the highest UIL classifications!

Ouch

Respectfully ignoring this thread so I can watch delayed by two minutes on stream!

You might be into something. I’m not sure about the rule, can someone refresh us?
-
That’s two things 1. A really good decision from the BD, clearly knows what theyre doing. 2. An amazing job by the kids starting off and still delivering an amazing performance
-
Will this hurt their C/D scores?
-
Can someone explain Reagan’s show design like I’m five? Visually it’s amazing but I’m not getting the message behind it.
-
We have a lot of high top-tier band directors leaving programs because of poor pay, I’m not sure what the point is.
-
Even Hebron had to live in the shadows for a while. It all takes time.

This has been the same conversation for years. When Marcus and L.D. Bell reigned supreme people wondered what was the point. When Westfield and Reagan were the kings people wondered why they ought to keep trying. These comments and concerns are ingrained into competitive marching. It can be hard to keep missing after trying, but we have to remember some things. Its more about the results it’s about what you learn through participating and putting effort. Do the same bands seem to keep reigning supreme? Yes. However we put too much focus on big finalist achievements instead of focusing on big accomplishments on a smaller scale. Glenn broke their first 80 ever at San Antonio this year, Argyle swept AA as a newly 5A band, Pecos won A with a 2 rating at region. Small accomplishments need to be amplified, because there’s value we don’t see. Money is an issue, sure.. Any competitive activity at the HS level will always have that inequity at its core, and that’s a huge shame. I would say “judging bias” is always a big concern, but I rarely see it. Outlier scoring can seem shocking on the surface, but some analysis can usually bring genuine justification.

And as always Keller has delivered at the end of the season! There’s really no room to doubt these guys with how consistent they are.

This show is really a masterclass in subtle design. It echoes a lot of what Carmel did in 2017-2018. They have a very different playing style, but the subtlety in design is definitely there. So glad Round Rock is back. I hope we see them in Indy next year.

Does anyone have the program book?
-
Waxahachie putting out some good volume, a really great run to end the season.
-
I’m slightly inclined to believe Visual Ensemble scores might have incorporated colorguard a little bit more than usual? At least going off scores and the judge.

The most I can predict is that Nguyen will switch to VI. They're definitely not putting him on music that's for sure. If not that he'll end up in content I think. It's interesting to see him judging here, as he's a big WGI name but never really judges marching.

For having an amazing percussion program the design doesn't have enough exposed percussion passages to really show off their sheer talent. I think to an extent it's the design they were given, they could've demanded more from their percussion and they would have delivered but they played it safer and didn't get to show off as much as other bands.
-
I feel like, if there was ever something to call a fluke it's the C/D scoring. Percussion makes sense it's not their strength, but the C/D scoring is just off. Similar thing happened to Cedar Park in 5A last year, tanked in one caption both prelims and finals but still won off sweeping the others.

Wow, that was not close. Difference between 14th and 15th was 29. Difference between 14th and 13th was 19.

Your services are no longer required.

Would you happen to have the recaps?
-
I might put Dripping Springs in as well actually they’re very much UIL centric and no matter their BOA scores they always deliver in UIL.
-
Fair, music was rough but I was pleasantly surprised by the visuals! Maybe I was just partial to their show design, either way great job.
-
It’s a lot of names to keep track of for sure, that’s my bad for adding them twice.

My guesses are (in no order) Hebron Woodlands CTJ Pearland Vista Ridge Vandegrift Cedar Ridge Keller CTJ Reagan Marcus Round Rock Coppell Waxahachie / Cypress Woods / Permian / Westlake with a lean towards Westlake and Waxahachie
