  1. Having a senior class and more students in the band almost directly correlate to cleaner drill and fuller sounds. Lebanon Trail's band by far has one of the cleanest visual performances in the 5A competition, so having that senior class as well as a new group of freshmen will no doubt sweep marching captions of any sort. However, I definitely agree they need to step up their game in terms of musical execution, their almost underperforming musical score at TOC this year proves that they need to up their music for next year. If they can do that, in my opinion, they have a clear path at state next year.
  2. In my opinion, centennial will rebound from the last area contest, after barely making state last year. They are a very strong band but have gotten super unlucky both last year and in 2013.
  3. That is also a good point, Clark middle recently won a national title, being the only middle school program that year who won. Also, those two middle school programs have a history of playing very difficult music at C&SR contests, I believe Clark played a Grade 4 Grainger piece according to the PML (I forgot which one), as well as Amarito Roca arr by Winter and Joyride by Markowski recently, some INSANELY difficult music at a middle school level.
  4. 204 already is an insane number for only 9-11, already top of the numbers in Frisco. I believe they had around 140+ last year with grades 9-10 which, and in comparison, Leander Glenn had 36 freshmen and 14 sophomores their inaugural year. Lebanon Trail had approximately 90 members with only freshman, with a class of about 440.
  5. Lovejoy is small but strong, we'll see what happens.
  6. Yes, 67 members is quite impressive, seeing as they have no seniors at their school yet. I believe neighboring memorial high school, who also has no seniors, has approximately that may students in their ENTIRE BAND, proving that no seniors mean no excuses.
  7. With the opening of memorial high school, lone star and heritage have both declined from the position last year. Lone star's musical execution is weaker, but more obviously has their visual clarity. Reedy has definitely improved from the last area competition and will definitely be locks for finals next year. Wakeland and Lebanon Trail are locks for state, but next year will come down to whoever gets the other two spots. Reedy placed higher than LS did at BOA Bedford, so those two bands should be interesting. Princeton and Centennial are maybes for me, and The Colony is just not that strong compared to the other bands in area b.
  8. Wakeland will advance to state finals for what I believe to be their 6th time in a row, and with Waxahachie being 6A, they will have a very high chance of medaling at state. However, there will be a handful of new band programs that could potentially outcompete widely known schools that have done well in state finals. Among that list I would say definitely Frisco Lebanon Trail and Weiss as state finalists. The judges will obviously favor Glenn just because they are in Leander ISD, and Princeton is the most unpredictable, they could not advance to state at all or place amongst the top 10, who knows? Take Waxahachie for example, a top 5A band for years, placed in 6A state finals. The same could potentially go for Princeton. 3 out of the 10 finalists from 2017 are now 6A, so expect many band programs to come out of nowhere.
  9. all regions send 2 tubas to area regardless of size of region, but i agree tubas in region 24 are SUPER competitive.
  10. Reigon 24 5A is by far the most competitive 5A region in texas as far as the all-region processes go. If you look at the numbers it is quite obvious. For example, they had around 84ish french horns try tryout for phase 1 auditions, which is more than area a, d, e, f, and h have, and each all-state area includes 4 regions. With this in mind, region 24 alone has about 13 percent of all 5a horns who audition, which is about the same for each instrument. Last year, I believe area b sent 37 students to state, 27 of which attended a Frisco school.
  11. Frisco Memorial has juniors as well.
