  1. Completely fair points, although this late in the season, earlier competitions can’t be the basis for everything. Right now, and especially Saturday it all depends on the performance. It truly does. And it’s just based on a performance by performance basis. As of now, the way it looks is that pioneer recognizes that Roma is out of the way (unfortunately so) and has shown a hunger like no other year they’ve had, and it’s paid off. Other than Roma, I’d say pioneer had the best run of region. Now I’m sure that sharyland has been seeing this and is using it as fuel to push further. It just comes down to Saturday’a performance(s). Anything can happen. It’s gonna be fun! *cough cough* tuning is gonna be a HUGE factor due to incoming weather *cough cough*
  2. With the way their season is going, and Roma being out (unfortunately) as well as there being 12 finalist bands, Pioneer can very much make state finals this year. And I’m hoping in that they do, because at least one valley band has to make finals to prove that they should not be taken lightly down there.
  3. Very true. Although, from UIL’s point of view I can see why they would keep it the same. The limited spots sparks competitiveness, which in turn sparks great performances, which spark great programs and bands, which brings the excitement and attention on marching band up, as well as the overall quality. But I’m not qualified at all, just playing devils advocate. There are definite pros and cons.

  5. Let’s say that there are 12 spots in state finals, with Roma out, who would get in that top 12 at state? I know area hasn’t happened, but any predictions?
  6. Excellent shout! Man it’s going to be a good one. Sharyland has had a steady incline, which is what you want in a band program. Pioneer has re-discovered their competitive fervor after a sort of complacent start. My reasoning is based on a head to head performance basis, where bands perform on the same night. And pioneer has came out in front in my opinion, but you never know what could happen. Two excellent programs. One with a chip on its shoulder. One with a meteoric and sudden rise as a powerhouse in the band world. Both with a championship on the line. It’s gonna be a good one folks!
  7. I think there will be 2 dark horse moments. I believe an unexpected band will make finals, and make state, but that’s just me wanting something really exciting to happen. The real question for me is who will now be a first ever Area G champ come Saturday? My pick is Pioneer, they have found their drive and have the fortunate draw of Last in finals.
  8. Very unfortunate. Standard model on how to run a program. They deserved to make state finals.
  9. Everything seemed normal from the stands. There wasn’t anything wrong with the clock seemingly. I think they are just trying to sway UIL to allow them to advance due to the magnitude of the ruling, considering they for sure would have made finals. It’s going to be very tough though
  10. I believe I saw them go over time, although I probably misread the clock. Haha, my eyes are not what they used to be back in the day. 100% deserved of a 1 rating. No intent of spreading any false or derogatory information. My apologies.
  11. They probably decided it was best to go home early. The directors knew in advance that they didn’t advance and probably didn’t want the kids to hear the word “Roma, division... 2”. I don’t blame them for not wanting to go.
  12. They for sure would have gotten a 1 rating. But those are the rules. For how good the program was, 20 seconds more than the other bands is unfair, so I can see why an automatic 2 would happen. But they do deserve another chance, although highly unlikely.
  13. Not just state. They were going to make state finals. Without a doubt.
  14. That’s what I’m thinking. I was at the competition and it seemed like there wasn’t any technical issues, or issues getting on the field. Maybe the show is just too long, but I’d imagine the directors would have addressed that.
  15. Interested to see how state and area G is now that Roma will not be advancing. They went over the time limit by 20 seconds and received a division 2 and competition last night. They are trying to appeal to UIL to get a second chance and still advance to area, but that’s going to be tough considering the strict UIL rules, as well as the amount of time they went over, 20 seconds is A LOT and it would affect the entire state competition if they were allowed to advance. It would take a miracle. Feel for the kids, truly unfortunate. Area G champions is now seemingly open and more importantly a spot in state finals.
  16. Just went to the SnakeSkin Classic game last night between pioneer and sharyland. Sharyland still solid marching program this year. Pioneer proved me wrong as of last night, great performance. Pioneer won the game, and seeming half time in my opinion. Looking forward to seeing both bands keep this up up until the end. And... IT’S PIGSKIN DAY!!!!! Goodluck to all bands. It starts today.
  17. Mission pre pigskin thoughts: Roma continues to dominate getting 1st. Sharyland makes a big leap getting 2nd, could be a really good year depending on if they can continue their momentum. They for sure don’t want to be forgotten as an established band. Again, performing like they have a chip on their shoulder, hungry to prove their worth. Pioneer, not to be harsh, but disappointing in 3rd. Just seemed like a lack of focus, almost as if they are taking things for granted. That was the big question. Can they continue having that hunger and drive after years of constant success? Pre pigskin, apparently not. Let’s hope that changes, and changes fast considering it is the week of pigskin and the start of their hopes of state finals. No more chances to mess up. Well run overall, as a competition, step up from weslaco.
  18. This contest is such a toss up, that even class champs are hard to predict, let alone FINALISTS
  19. Glad to see so many Valley Bands at bigger competitions now
