  1. ANXIOUSLY awaiting for UIL to post the breakdown for BOTH prelims and finalsđŸ˜© Hopefully it’s soonđŸ€  Congrats to all the bands who performed in the dome!!!! Looking forward to next year!
  2. Finals day!!! Let’s go Roma!! Been seeing a lot of love from other valley and AREA G bands for them. Gotta love itđŸ€  Good luck to all bands performing today, it’s gonna be a good one folks!
  3. 2019 is when the director change happened. Their placings have gotten better since then. I know there is a history of intense moments in their “rivalry” with Pioneer, but they both did well this year at the SMBC! Pioneer has just been so consistent in the top 2 valley bands for so long right out the gate, but SHS also has the history of being open so long. Very interesting dynamic indeed!
  4. Hopefully all valley schools move up soon! What do you mean by “rocky” for SHS? Did something happen? They seem to place well in local compsđŸ€”
  5. It’s very promising that Pioneer performed first and reportedly ended up placing 25th AND Roma Made finals despite their somewhat early draw time. It’s in my name Y'all! Valley Bands are SEVERELY underrated, and I hope this comp is representative of thatđŸ€
  6. I’m excited to find out how all the AREA G bands did in prelimsđŸ€” Very competitive season in the Valley, A lot of bands down here historically take bragging rights seriously as motivation for the upcoming season (in a respectful way for the most part). Very much looking forward to next year already based on results!
  7. Wow, the level of toxicity is the highest I’ve seen here. Can’t we all just celebrate the hard work EVERYONE has done? At the end of the day if the kids had fun through the entire season, then what else is there to fight about? We are here to celebrate Texas Marching band, not be sore losers/winners. Think about all the other bands who weren’t fortunate to be at this comp. They will gladly take your preferred schools place if you aren’t happy with it. Be grateful, and be happy. Push others, not drag them down!
  8. Go Roma! Glad for the Area G representation!! do you have the rest of the comp breakdown?
  9. As someone who has been both a performer, educator, and overall band fan, this is very disappointing. I understand being confused or not agreeing on a result, but there has to be a level of respect towards ALL programs. Regardless of anyone’s association with the schools. Saying that the judges got things wrong in this way is taking away the incredible moment, hard work, and feelings from those kids who were fortunate enough to advance. Yes, we should absolutely feel for those who have worked hard and didn’t advanced, BUT do not voice those opinions in a way that diminishes or takes away from kids who also worked hard to make it to the SMBC. There are some people who don’t agree with the results, but they are not diminishing other programs or their kids. This is their moment, please do not try and take it away; intentional or otherwise. Ultimately it’s what holds us back, up north everyone is competitive but is happy when another school can win and represent their area. As a community, the RGV band community should put this energy into pushing our successes and not into negativity.
  10. Based on previous local competition results and shows that I have seen here are my thoughts. Area G 5A Champions: Roma Runner-Up: Pioneer Bronze Medalist Contenders: Sharyland, Pace, Rio Grande City, Lopez Finalist Locks: PSJA North, Juarez Lincoln, Weslaco East It will be very interesting who advances to state. There are only 2-3 bands that I would consider an absolute Lock to make the SMBC. I love to see the level of RGV bands increasing, future is bright! Should be an amazing and dramatic comp!
  11. A lock for State for me in no order are Pioneer, Roma, Rio Grande City, and Sharyland. It’s that 5th spot that is going to be a tough battle between the other 6 bands in finals. I completely agree with the statement that this is the most competitive area G has been in a while! It’s gonna be fun!
  12. 4 days out from the Area G marching contest! Really excited to see who makes it to state. The competitive nature of valley bands always gets me amped up. ESPECIALLY state years! Predictions and thoughts?
  13. Arguably the hardest 5A Competition to predict finalist bands ever. It’s so hard
  14. Every part of this contest is insanely competitive. Not only is top 14 going to be difficult, but even class championship is going to be hard to predict. Even just looking at the 2A class championship scene, there are multiple contenders. And that’s just the 2A conference!
  15. If it isn’t apparent already, band parents and their support really affect the kids. Really surprised to see that many Pioneer parents and community in the audience. The majority of the audience. That’s great, and the way it should be for every program. Parents, go to your kids performances. It might not seem like much, but it does to them!
  16. Big day! Goodluck to all bands. Let’s hope this is better run than last time
