Well in 2014 Area H didn’t have Leander schools and Brandies, Stevens and Del Rio were no where near what they are now. We also didn’t have Judson and Lake Travis in the mix back then. O’Connor Video is dirty and they haven’t Finished the Opener, the band is also way smaller in the show, I’m sure they are still the same size as before. In a way I agree with you. Right now all the areas of Texas have Equal representation at the State Contest. One could say that Area H as well as some other areas like B and D have schools in the bottom half of Finals that would advance or be champions in Areas like G of A. I am not saying one is better than the other but shouldn’t the schools like Northside compete with schools with similar demographics like Northeast. It’s hard to feel bad for the Northside schools when Title 1 schools in the past on the Border had to compete with Suburban San Antonio schools that have completely different demographics than them. Back then Northside schools looked great advancing to state while in Area D great bands like Churchill were being left behind. Unitil the boundaries are drawn in a way that the top 60 at BOA SA end up at State them it will continue to be flawed.

Havnt seen Taft, Judson, Stevens, Westlake or Vista Ridge. So far I am keeping my earlier predictions except I would move O’Connor out of Finals and bump in either Warren or Brennan.

Well I won’t insult your Opinion which is your right but I am sure I’m not alone in my opinion. They may still break in to Finals and SA and or state but I would give the benifit of the doubt to other groups around the state that have been improving. I wish those kids good luck!

Walk into any after school rehearsal of the top 20 BOA SA Bands right now and they will sound just amazing. Tone and tuning takes years to develop in an ensemble and signs are clear from the start of the season. It does not get substantially better like drill formations do as the season progresses especially tone. Bell does not sound like it should for it being August.

Yes! LD Bell will have to be sqeeky Clean to make SA Finals. The sounds and tuning are not very good right now.

I agree with DRbanddad. The only reason taft tied was because one of the judges gave Del Rio 23 out of 24 which brought the score down a lot. Taft was very out of tune that day.

I don’t think Brandeis was very clean last year tbh. I’m sure they will be strong but I would say Taft was the most improved Northside school next to O’Connor.

Don’t want to give anything away, let’s see how they do in Midland. If you like underdog title 1 school Bordertown kids that work hard, They are an inspiration. I am looking forwarded to seeing what the LISD schools have in store, and westlake!

I would think that about O’Connor but all 4 staff left and the replacements are at a point in which they must prove themselves.

My order and I don’t think Harlingen will be the same without Ronnie Rios

I agree, Vista Ridge might change and cedar park in about a year or so.

It seems that there was 100% staff turnover at O’Connor. The future is in the air for this strong program.

I saw the finals at SA so I Do not think I am underestimating, we are talking about the top 40 after all, but I could be wrong. I would even be bold to say that I didn’t agree with the placements in McAllen. Those early season regionals are tough to gauge because of how much groups change throughout the season. Bowie improved during their season last year and Leander seemed to drop towards the end. Great programs but I will agree to some degree the early season regionals band placements can change a lot.

Alexander is getting better, they made Finals in BOA McAllen in 2017. Their improvement from 2016 to 17 seems to tell me that they will be in the top 40.

What kind of new things did you guys try that didn't work?

More likely than not churchill will be in finals but i don't think it's a lock. I would have Del Rio in the upper bubble. This program received a 2 in UIL marching in 2013, made Area Finals in 2016 and made Finals in Two BOAs in 2017. 2017 was their BOA debut so I expect for them to improve. They are in an upward trend.

Ove that this contest is becoming harder to compete in finals every year! Hopefully the BOA bug will hit these south Texas schools.
