  1. I do think that name recognition plays some into how a band is perceived. this is especially the case, from what I can tell, in contests with a lot of bands right next to each other competitively. IE: if there are 10 bubble bands all at just about the same level, the 3 that made finals last year at this contest have a better shot at being in again. Curious if that’s been seen by others as well though
  2. Absolutely, saw their show at BOA Conroe and was thoroughly impressed!
  3. Looking at the website, it seems 7L dropped this contest. seems like Jordan is poised well to win it and end their season on a high note https://usbands.org/events/details.php?ID=682
  4. I totally agree with your rankings 100%! I think some of the other judges were right there with ya. I think the activity will head back in the direction of marching/dancing while playing as the activity progresses as a whole. Double tonguing and jazz running were only part of the elite groups when I was in band 5 years ago, now, it’s part of just about every program in area finals! And some that didn’t make it. The activity will keep pushing forward and I strongly believe that demand will go up up up.
  5. Congrats to all the state advancers! I feel for the Jordan kids, 1st out of state in 2021, 10th last year, now first out again. Hopefully next year will be their year!
  6. Woah huge improvements from the last video I saw. It’s rlly coming together!
  7. How were Jersey village and Tompkins?
  8. Oh I’ll have to double check then! I thought, based on the Area B thread, that the prop had passed but I cannot find anything in the UIL constitution so who knows
  9. Yep, but I think UIL voted this past year that if there’s a tie for the last state spot, both advance
  10. Curious about bridgeland as well as cinco and Katy?
  11. I expect Friendswood, foster and honestly Kempner to go to state. kempner is superrrrrrr clean this year and I would love to see them at state!
  12. Not since they made 6A I’m pretty sure
  13. Anyone watching today? (Or filming…?)
  14. After watching oak ridge I don’t know that their visual is clean enough to place them in 3rd. I have klein oak and north shore above them. TMHS could sneak in over them
  15. This seems like the most solid order in my opinion as well! could see Katy higher and 7L lower though..
  16. Just out of pure curiosity, what are some key points that come to mind from the Houston school of thought? Growing up there, I have a hard time distinguishing. Obviously the best bands in Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio are very different but how exactly?
  17. I think any one of these groups could take the 10th spot!
  18. Bridgeland and/or Cy fair have a good shot!!
  19. Interesting insights. I do agree with a majority of it. 7L did still decisively win over all of the katy groups at the Katy Marching contest though. in the performance captions it was: Music 1. 7L 2. Fulshear 3. Tompkins 4. Jordan 5. JET 6. Paetow 6(tie). Cinco Ranch 8. Katy visual 1. 7L 2. Tompkins 3. JET 4. Jordan 5.Katy 6. cinco ranch
  20. I could see that, didn’t they beat them early season?
  21. block 1 having potentially half the finalists is crazy!
  22. I believe 27 bands will compete at area this weekend, making for 10 finalists and 5 state spots
  23. some of the most recent videos for presumptive finalists:
  24. Exactly. They just added a new movement on the field for region that will undoubtedly be cleaner by state than by area this week! Looking at the different echelons of programs it really is all about who cleans the most this week and who has the best run!
  25. I could be wrong but I feel like different groups have peaked/are peaking at super different times. that could throw a wrench in all our predictions!
