Really!? That’s pretty cool. I had to leave as soon as SFA performed so I'm waiting on tender hooks for someone to post the results. -

My personal predictions based on what I saw live: 1 Reagan 2 Vandegrift 3 The Woodlands The order of these top are a total guess. These three were easily the best ones, kept your attention from start to finished, they had the whole package. Musically I think they are dead even but I personally put the Woodlands behind the other two in overall placement solely because of their color guard; with seeing a few drops that they had they are easily inferior to the other two band’s guard. 4. Seven lakes/ Bowie/ Cy-fair 5. Seven lakes/ Bowie/ Cy-fair 6. Seven lakes/ Bowie/ Cy-fair I found these three equally enjoyable. Really good programs but not as good as the top 3. I can’t deicde which ones are better 7. Oak Ridge/ Brazoswood 8. Oak Ridge/ Brazoswood I’m personally more biased towards Oak Ridge and enjoyed their performance more and thought they were better musically but I can’t deny that Brazoswood was really good, loved their dancing. 9 Winston Churchill Musically they were technically perfect, but it just wasn’t very interesting compared to the other finalists. I can see them doing amazing at UIL where there is less weight towards GE 10 JET. They were good of course, but they just seemed the weakest out of all of them to me. And watching SFA’s performance, I can tell they had to be super close to making finals, I enjoyed watching their Mary Poppins themed show. But I can kinda seem why they didn’t make finals. They just weren’t as clean as the others. -

Jeez, a crazy amount of people left after Vandegrift. I get it, the top 3 bands already performed but there’s only 2 finalists left. I feel bad for Cy-fair, but they sound great so far. -

Luckily I live nearby and my schedule was clear so I’m able to see finals for once. Very excited for these programs! -

I’m very excited for this contest. Though I’m hoping a Houston area band like the woodlands or something wins this one. -
2018 Friendswood Marching Festival

I was thinking the exact same thing. I know it’s not the same contest as like BOA or something but whenever I see a score below 70 I naturally think yikes and they all were like that. Sooooo I’m really curious if they just have a weird way of scoring or they all.....just weren’t very good. -

Unfortunately I didn’t go to the competition so I can’t weigh in personally on my thoughts on how the bands did, which is a bummer; I love to show some much needed love for the Houston area bands. Though historically speaking, none of the caption wins surprised me. Dawson’s guard is always on point, Clear Brook’s percussion is essentially God, and then SFA always seems to always win this contest with the most caption wins. I wish the website showed the detailed scores and the placement of other bands to see how close the scoring was. -

They are giving awards based on just prelims since finals were cancelled. My sister is at the competition and they are doing awards now. She didn’t tell me everything so I don’t know the caption winners or the whole rankings, I just know this: Overall: 1. SFA 2. Pearland 3. Oak Ridge 4. Dawson -
BOA Conroe 2018
Avisshadow replied to gmtb617's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I agree, it shouldn’t be a problem this year with only losing more inexperienced students. I’m more concerned on how they’ll be 2 years out and from then on. Unfortunately with the way the school zoning is, all the nicer and “wealthier” neighborhoods are going to Grand Oaks, so while money certainly isn’t everything in a band program, there is no doubt that it helps so I hope the program doesn’t go downhill as a result. -

I think it’s more like BOA because I’ve seen the score sheets the past few years and the scoring looks similar to the kind of contest with GE seeming to be a big deal instead of just relying on marching and music like UIL -

I’m only familiar with those top 6 bands but I’d agree with your prediction. -
BOA Conroe 2018
Avisshadow replied to gmtb617's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Yeah it is! Though when you put that in perspective with Leander, I guess the positives of having a big school district is that there is a more competitive spirtit. Each school wants to be better than the other schools in the district. -

I guess if areas are just densely populated then there has to be more schools for that area. And if additional schools are added on due to previous school’s overcrowding they’ll have to be in the same district. Like the TW College Park I think was added because of overcrowding at TWHS, and Grand Oaks added to Oak Ridge’s overcrowding, etc -

BOA Conroe 2018

This right here is an unfortunate downfall of having a big school distict. While there are 2 stadiums for the Conroe ISD, with the additional of Grand Oaks high school this year, there are 6 high schools in the district having to share those stadiums. Unfortunately The Woodlands College Park, Oak Ridge, and The Woodlands have to share the Woodforest Bank Stadium as their home stadium- and in 2 years time so will Grand Oaks so Thursday and Saturday games happen very often, especially with the Woodforest Bank Stadium being host to multiple contests (like BOA- Houston ironically) it makes the scheduling even more difficult. As an Oak Ridge band alumni, it is absolutely devastating seeing one of our own beloved school district’s band having to miss out on a band contest- especially the best band in the district! For that weekend TWHS pulled the short straw in terms of scheduling -

Thank you guys! Wow! Oak Ridge’s performance was awesome. I wasn’t able to attend the competition but I was able to see the live feed performance on their twitter and I was so surprised by all the visuals and props they used, thy normally don’t use that much. If anyone is at the competition let us know the highlights and standout performances please! -

Anyone know who made finals yet? -
They finally posted last Saturday's results online: Grand Champion: Oak Ridge 2nd Place: The Woodlands College Park 3rd Place: Tomball Memorial 4th Place: Ridge Point Outstanding Drumline: Cypress Woods Outstanding Colorguard: Oak Ridge Outstanding Drum Major: George Ranch Congrats to Oak Ridge! TWCP and Oak Ridge were really working hard for that top spot. TWCP had won in prelims but OR scraped ahead. Congrats to both bands for representing CISD well.

Lone Star Preview 2015 Predictions??
Avisshadow replied to jjkyob's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I just recently learned that it's actually not because of a football game, since TWCP and Oak Ridge are playing today against each other at Woodforest. Apparently both are performing at the Sam Houston State Marching Festival in Huntsville tomorrow instead of Lonestar. Looking at the contest schedule, there should be no reason for them not to make the top 3. One of them is bound to win it because all the other schools are not particularly well known or good. -
Lone Star Preview 2015 Predictions??
Avisshadow replied to jjkyob's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I find it odd that no Conroe ISD band is performing in Lonestar Preview. I understand that The Woodlands only hosts and exhibits in it, but considering that TWCP and Oak Ridge also share Woodforest as their home Stadium, you'd think they'd perform with the competition being so local to them.
