They're alright. I've liked their shows but there's some room to improve. I assume you're asking because you're a member. Good luck this season!
-
I believe so - still too early to tell, but I do not see them backing off of last years intensity
Now I'm super excited. If anyone has video they're allowed to post, please do
-
I doubt Music for All "coincidentally" deciding to host a contest an hour and a half away on the same day helped with attendance.
It really sucks. I wish everyone could go to every contest ever. That's the dream.

Cedar Ridge?? Sweeping San Antonio and State??
It was a joke haha. I still love marching band and CR, but it would be a wonder if they swept both contests.
-
Interesting you mentioned that. BOA Waco has only one HS Band from the Entire Region 8 of UIL Attending. That is Robinson. Four of the Class 6A Schools are going to the Texas Music Championships in Round Rock and 14 of the other schools to include Waco High School are going to the Gatesville Marching Contest. Most of the Bands you recognize are from the Austin Area, which is almost 100 miles from Waco.
I was about to question your knowledge of Texas geography until I actually checked. It never occurred to me that Austin really that far from Waco. It feels like just a hop and a skip away.

no video out that I am aware of - homecoming is on the 14th and they generally do a full run after the homecoming game so I am sure there may be some pirate videos out there after that. I have heard that the show is intense - big production with a huge sound and a bigger size than last year - looking forward to seeing what it looks like
Even more intense than last year? They set quite the bar with that San Antonio performance. Watching videos a year later still gives me goosebumps like no other HS show. Absolutely incredible.
-
Does this feel like a smaller contest than in years past? It feels like there should be more bands.
On another note, Reagan is definitely sweeping. I love Georgetown, but unless they borrowed CTJ performers for the weekend they won’t beat Reagan.
-
awwww I'm sad to hear that you aren't in it anymore. But glad you are still following along. You'll love BOA Austin from the stands!!
I miss it every day. I still want them to do super well and there’s no question in my mind they’ll sweep State and San Antonio.

Marcus isn’t attending
I thought I was tripping. I was annoyed with myself for forgetting Marcus until I read your post haha.

I have not heard or seen much about Cedar Ridge yet other than a brief description of their show. How’s it looking? I’m sure they will be top 10 again this year!
I’m honestly not really sure about the vibe. I left the program this year. It looks really good though. It’s got all the makings of a really nifty show. I’ll be there supporting them at Austin!

I’m thinking because of how uil based haltoms show may sound. I’m not sure about that statement but I do see Keller being on top but I don’t think haltom will be any lower than 3 imo based on what I’ve heard from them . But we will see keller and haltom compete together on the 29th at the heb contest and we can start to see what is going on from there on out the season. Keller has been great for the past few years and haltom has had some rough ones but I will say that haltom last year surprised a lot of people and when I see them now they sound better and look better than anything they did last year . Don’t know if haltom will succeed more in uil tho because they have been putting out great boa based shows but we will soon see
Keller is a consistent finalist. They made finals at BOA SA last year, which was probably one of the, if not the most difficult BOA contest to date. I think they might do a little better than Haltom this year.
That being said, Haltom is fine. They're an alright band and can hold their own. We'll see what happens.
-
1. Hebron
2. Flower Mound
3. Cedar Park
4. Keller
That's all I can really guess. I don't know a whole lot about the other participants.
-
I wouldn’t be super surprised to see UIL favor bands like Haltom over Keller this year. However, I think Keller will do extremely well at BOA this year and will definitely set themselves apart there. Keller is the only Area B band to make BOA San Antonio finals in recent years.
Why would judges favor Haltom over Keller?
-
1: Keller
2: LD Bell
3: Coppell
4: Waxahachie
5: Haltom
I think Keller can easily sweep this area. They're a great band.

I wish CTJ would’ve made the Waco regional this year. Too busy at work to make trip down to the Alamodome this time of year. Haven’t seen them perform live yet. Will be good to see the other Central Texas bands though.
That really is unfortunate. BOA Waco would have been even more awesome with CTJ. Does anyone have video of what they're up to this year?
-
Does anyone have any thoughts regarding placements? We're just a few weeks away!

God, they are going to sound good this year. Things just keep getting better for that ensemble.
Last I checked I am not on drugs... but didn't one of the top DCI groups recently play that fanfare around 3 minutes? like maybe BD? Don't know what any of this music is, although I for sure recognize it by sound, which is making my investigating harder. Thanks for anyone who can help out
Vandy is certainly scary as a competitor. They’re going to do great at State.
-
Yep, knew that was coming. Heard he took a higher position in the administration
You are correct. He has moved on to bigger things at the district level. I’ll miss him quite a bit.

I was thinking my kids take the STARS test now, no longer TAKS.
You're right. The STAAR (State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness) is the standardized test of the 2010s.
-
To be clear, I’m thinking Cedar Park or maybe Round Rock for this. Cedar Park just had a major director change, but I think everything is in place for that program to succeed.
Round Rock is definitely in a good position here. I can see them taking the contest or maybe Hendrickson even with the director change. They're both solid programs
-
It's always odd to me that bands like CTJ go to contests in the Valley. I'm not attacking them, I'm just wondering why they feel the need to go to these contests when they're obviously much more well off and have a far stronger program.
