2019 Carrollton TOC

I did a double take too when I first saw the schedule with the band from Nevada! I haven't seen or heard anything from any of the bands (except Plano Senior), but from history, I would go with Plano East for this. But I also know they as still in a rebuilding phase, so I don't really know how they are this year. -

It was quite a night last night for the football game, and a lot of money was raised for the El Paso victims fund and I think it was a great night of unity between the two schools. I will admit however, since they were advertising an unforgettable halftime show, when they cut to a commercial during the Plano Bands performance and didn't show the joining of the two bands to play the Eastwood school song I was a little disappointed because that was the coming together of the two school bands, and their drill teams. And even when they showed the bands, they talked over them. However this morning, the director sent out a link to the show. If you go to 1 hr 38 min on the link below, you will see the start of the halftime show for Plano, an that leads into the joining of the two bands to play the El Paso school song followed by March Grandioso with the two bands (and drill teams) as they march off the field. If you have a chance, it is pretty neat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RTAwu8VbKk.

I am very glad they decided to play the game, I wasn't sure why they cancelled it in the first place. I think they knew it might be a big game and the previous location really wasn't set up for extra security and they were worried about it. I had to ask my daughter if she knew that guy as he graduated a year after her at PSHS and also attended Collin college where she is at (she didn't). It's just all so sad. I will also be watching the game from home. My husband can't go and since I am still in a Neck Brace, between driving and having a hard time managing in crowds, especially with lots of steps, I thought it would be best for me. I know the Plano Band will just be doing their Tribute show (they do this every year), but with a twist. I hope it meets the "unforgettable" half time show they keep advertising on the commercials, my son is a little worried!

So tomorrow night, Plano Senior will be playing Eastwood High school from El Paso. Not sure if those not in the DFW area are aware of all of the drama surrounding this game, but it went to being "cancelled" by Plano due to security concerns (as the El Paso shooter went to Plano Senior), to being back on again and being played at the Frisco Star Center (Cowboy's practice faciity, also utilized by the Frisco football teams). They are actually televising the game on WFAA (ABC) in Prime time and are advertising an "unforgettable" half time performance. You can actually watch the game, and this unforgettable performance by the PSHS band, on wfaa.com as they are live streaming the game as well on wfaa.com. My son isn't sure that it will be "Unforgettable", but they will be joined by the El Paso band (I think just a small pep band) during half time if anyone wants to sign in and see it. I love to see music bringing people together. They are also selling "Don't Hate In My State" T-Shirts which are pretty neat, if anyone is interested (WFAA, not Plano Senior is selling). Profits to go the El Paso Victims fund. https://www.wfaa.com/article/news/local/dont-hate-in-my-state-t-shirt-proceeds-to-go-to-el-paso-victims-relief-fund/287-56741baa-d14f-4f8c-9150-fef52c6779fa

Just saying.... it's been sunny and hot for weeks, and now? We have rain and thunderstorms! Hope this clears out before the football game tonight!

Things we love outside of band...

Yes, I am an NFL fan. However, no Cowboy fans in this house. Go Pack Go. Lot's of friendly competition at my work office -
Hot here in DFW too, 100 with a heat index of 106. But after last year, I won't ask for rain yet

Here is the link: http://www.uiltexas.org/files/music/Marching_Band_Physical_Exam_FAQ.pdf I know we always had to fill out paper work regarding their health and all, but it was always just saying they were healthy enough and didn't have any conditions that would prevent them from doing marching band. I do think this is a good thing. I have a feeling the doctors offices around here will be quite busy around that time giving physicals . Between the 6 high school bands and the 3 senior high school bands in Plano alone, that will be around 1500 kids! Better get mine booked early!
-
Well it looks like the UIL authorities have finally figured out that marching band can be very athletic! Received a note from the band that physicals will now be required prior to the marching season. Maybe not every year, but at least the incoming year. Our email said entering 9th and entering 11th grades, but I don't know if that is because Plano has 9/10 schools and 11/12 schools.

And as for the actual topic, I think it is great if bands can find additional support thru their communities or sponsorship programs to help level the costs to the programs. They only thing I would say is I hope the Band Boosters clubs make sure they have very trustworthy individuals that handle the amount of money they manage now though.

Ah yes, the Robin Hood plan, Plano has tried to get that reformed for many years. Plano paid a recapture of $124 million this year. Over 1.6 Billion paid into it since 1994, which I believe is when it started. And if the link below doesn't show you how flawed the system is.... well read for yourself! https://abc13.com/education/a-texas-school-district-opened-a-water-park-and-you-paid-for-it/4162905/ I don't mind the concept of Robin Hood, but I think it needs to be revisited.
