  1. Any thoughts of a moving Grand National, the move each year is to one of the locations of BOA Super Regional? I think this not only would continue to grow "Music For All and BOA's", but you may see many more bands make the trip to GA and San Antonio when the GN come. Would they ever be open to this?
  2. Vista's music is up there, however their Marching leaves them on bubble in a crazy tough competition. Here are some of the bubble bands with great shows that missed finals: LD Bell Westlake Vista Ridge Friendswood Dripping Springs Others that had strong years and good performances and missed are: Aledo Keller Central James Martin Sandra Day O'Connor "Great show and great year" Wakeland Alvin Anderson and more http://www.ksat.com/education/high-school-bands-battle-for-music-honors-at-the-bands-of-america-super-regionals
  3. Flower Mound, Leander, The Woodlands, and CTJ all positioned well in finals for a shootout. I've seen both Flower Mound and Leander and would give the edge to Leander with a clean performance. Finals Schedule7:15 PM - Class A: Saint James School, AL 7:30 PM - Cypress Falls H.S., TX 7:45 PM - Hendrickson H.S., TX 8:00 PM - Keller H.S., TX 8:15 PM - Winston Churchill H.S., TX 8:30 PM - Cedar Park H.S., TX 8:45 PM - Round Rock H.S., TX 9:00 PM - Ronald Reagan H.S., TX 9:15 PM - Marcus H.S., TX 9:30 PM - Hebron H.S., TX 9:45 PM - Vandegrift H.S., TX 10:00 PM - The Woodlands H.S., TX 10:15 PM - Flower Mound H.S., TX 10:30 PM - Leander H.S., TX 10:45 PM - Claudia Taylor Johnson H.S., TX 11:00 PM - Class AA: Roma H.S., TX
  4. How does Leander get away with being a 6A band and somehow in BOA they're 3A and not 4A. This seems just wrong.
  5. Vista was 7th in Marching from what I saw but they have nice music, they are where they should be I suppose in finals. The 5th-7th was very tight, can't believe O'Connor fell so far in music from prelims to finals but they had solid marching scores for a mega band with their numbers. I suppose some of the solo's were off as opposed to the afternoon where they made it as high as 3rd in music. The top 7 were the same that I had just different order, and I'm still scratching my head now Vandy just beat out Leander when I clearly had Leader taking it. The better competition will help to continue to push the NISD bands to new heights with 3 good showings from Brandeis, O'Connor and Stevens. There was a lot of speculation that CTJ was planning ahead of time to sit out finals in Area. I guess the they wanted to avoid the double with grand nationals the very next day, still amazing that they would opt out though CTJ was not poised for a top 5 this year in state as: Reagan, Vandergift, Leader, Bowie, Round Rock, and maybe even Keller were poised to finish in front. CTJ's show is more geared toward BOA judging and is a good show but for UIL State would likely not be in top 5.
  6. Unofficially, was told Brandeis came in 5th as first alternate and O'Connor 7th. No official final results posted as of yet. The judging in finals seems to have been more erratic than in prelims.
  7. Here's the Prelims scores. It's a shame that there were not 25 bands as 5 or more deserve to advance here. Congrats to those advancing. I cannot see how Vandy would tie with Leander, it was clear that Leander won in the finals. I even had Westlake ahead of Vandy in 3rd but then again I'm just a spectator. If O'Connor cleans up the performance they have a legitimate shot at finals in the San Antonio Super Regional. I personally had O'Connor and Judson ahead of Vista Ridge in finals. I had Vista in 5th Music and 6th in Marching in the finals, as stated congrats to those advancing all of which have great shot at State finals.
  8. Sad to see Hendrickson back out as they did well in Conroe BOA with a 4th place and were beat by Round Rock in BOA Austin with RR in 5th and Hendrickson in 8th. Seems the several additional Texas BOAs over the past few years on different weekends and other festivals that are popping up have spread many contests thin. There are still several very good bands in this contest and its still a worthy event to attend with great weather forecasted. I look forward to seeing all of the bands but mostly: Round Rock O'Connor Dripping Springs Westlake (exhibition) Hays

  11. It's already been a crazy year that has teams like LD Bell and Round Rock on the outside looking in. The surprises will not end there and here's how I see it: 1. The Woodlands 2. Bowie 3. Johnson 4. Hebron 5. Marcus 6. Reagan 7. Coppell 8. Westlake 9. O'Connor 10. Flower Mound ------------- First five out ----------- 11. Haltom 12. Keller 13. Duncanville 14. Spring 15. Cedar Ridge

  13. I'm so proud of O'Connor kids executing to the many changes to the program throughout the year. O'Connor program has improved so much over the course of the season compared to early contests. For those of you that have not seen O'Connor's program lately you would be surprised. Taking the feedback from the early contest judges and delivering great performances in prelims and finals at area to take it's first Area Champion honors in school history was phenominal (in a finals that included 20 bands no less). A lot is said about Area B, C, D & F for good reason but I'm in firm believe that Area G is going to surprise everyone at state and at the San Antonio Super Regional with at least a finalist in both is not multiple finalist. Be on the look out as for "Area G" schools in the finals in state and in SA BOA. Congrats to all of the schools that made it as it goals to show just how strong Texas bands are that two grand National schools did not make state. P.S. What an outstanding year by all San Antonio Northside Schools with three advancing to state: O'Connor, Clark & Taft.
  14. O'Connor has come so far this year and the kids really have invested into improving all year long. I'm very proud of OC for taking it's first area championship in school history and I'm certain they'll continue to work hard to make State finals as well. Between the changes to the program and much improved marching and music they certainly have a shot at State finals and Super Regional finals this year. This would be a fitting end a tough season that has seen two grand national finalist not make state. If they execute to this plan they'll put "Area G" into the discussion moving forward. Congrats to all of the bands in Area G and the other two Northside schools that made it to state.
  15. O'Connor placed 2nd in Area G finals of the 8 teams going to state. Once the full recap is released we'll have a better idea how those advancing to state stacked up.
  16. "Panther Band" O'Connor had a strong finals performance and placed 2nd in finals of the 8 bands advancing to state out of Area G. The OC band has come on strong as the season has progressed. Congrats to all of the bands that participated in Area G, The Finalist and to those advancing to state.
  17. Those advancing to state in random order... (please post reply if you know the final placement order?) 5A Area G - United, O'Connor, Hanna, Harlingen, Harlingen South, Donna, San Benito, Lopez
  18. Are those advancing listed in order in which they placed in each of the areas?
