  1. First and foremost, I will never make an EXCUSE for a band program. I was just giving reasons why a program would be on down peak in the cycles that every person and program can experience. And I was speaking of freshman only. Reagan only has 15 Juniors in its program and the Senior class is only around 25. So do the math. Those are mainly Freshman and Sophomores out there too. I was simply saying that every program has growing pains at times. And as these younger kids are cultivated, it is so hard for them to stay positive when the TX Band community is being such a bunch of downers in reference to their work. I can't help believe that there is some satisfaction out there that the program is not as successful as 2005. One thing the program teaches is positive interaction with peer bands. Support who wins, support who doesn't do so great. Never say another band "irritates" you or that a band perfection gets on your nerves. Always celebrate success and give pats on the back to ones that struggle. Really...isn't that the way it should be?

I don't think anyone here is trying to be a "downer" about Reagan's performance. The vast majority of bands at BOA San Antonio were top-notch, and the fact that Reagan made finals among all those ensembles shows that they still had a fantastic performance: good show design with tons of motivation and commitment by the students and staff.

All that was being said is that your school didn't have as great of a year as it has in the past, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, considering Reagan has been one of the top ensembles in the state (and country- look at their GN placements) since the start of the school.

Reagan did have a great year, just as it has before. Just based on the judging standards, their scores were lower this year than they have in the past. I'm concerned that people are giving you the impression they are taking satisfaction at your school's lower placements and scores this year. I think if you re-read what people have written, you'll find the vast majority of people participating in this discussion have a great deal of respect for Reagan and are in no way trying to insult your program.

Please accept my apologies if anything said in the thread can be perceived otherwise: I'm sure that was not anyone's intention.

  2. Also, The Woodlands and The Woodlands: College Park.

And SFA and William B Travis.

    It happens all the time.

Cedar Park split with Vista Ridge in 03, they got 9th at BOA SA. The next year, after losing the head director, 2nd at state. The same thing happened again this year: Vista Ridge split with a new high school and had their most successful season thus far.

  3. Major geek warning ahead.

I scrapped the entries posted in the Predictions page for UIL 5A State as of Wednesday, fed it into Excel, gave a point value of 10 for 1st, 9 for 2nd, 8 for 3rd, etc., and totaled the points. Based on those predictions the results look like the list below. Probably pretty close to what will actually happen.

Ok... so you inspired me to do this for all our prediction events, in an automated fashion. Check it out on the prediction page. You can see all completed event's analysis data from the main prediction page, and "open" events that you have predicted on by clicking on "view lists" for that event. It's done in real time with all the current prediction lists.

Overall, not too nice layout, but you get the point.

  4. Well I don't know how the staff makes their plans (they can speak for themselves over what I may speculate), but if the staff is issued press passes to this event (which I imagine the Alamadome won't be giving out a lot of for this program considering hardly any press are involved compared to the vast majority of other festivities and events that normally take place in the dome), they'll probably have press-access seating at the very top close to the 50 yard line.

Yeah we'll have press passes... look for people wearing those. I believe there was only one non-TxB media pass issued last year and it was for a San Antonio paper. We shouldn't be that hard to find. :)

Last year I don't know if they had a separate press-access area, but we were on the first level, right up against the press box in the directors viewing area.

  5. We have reconfigured our TxBLive service for the second half of this season. Starting this weekend, text messages should have a higher delivery rate and reach your phone faster!

TxBLive connects you with events all across the state... even if you are hundreds of miles away! Receive text alerts with finalists, caption winners, and placements just seconds after they are announced!

It's still 100% free, and is the best way to get results instantly.

    Sign up now.

  6. Hi Everyone!

We have a new system for TxBLive Mobile Alerts. This should solve the problems we have been having with a lot of texts not getting through.

If you were previously subscribed to TxBLive Mobile Alerts, your subscription has been moved over to the new system. If you are not subscribed, please check out the new TxBLive Mobile page and signup. It's fast (only takes about 10 seconds) and is free!

Please let us know if you have any questions.

  7. i know this is a very stacked areabut what ever happened to reagon? they kind of fell a little in the past few years. they used to be at the top of everything right up there by bell? dont get me wrong im not saying they are bad by any means just not what they used to be

Well for one, they've had a lot of staff changes. A few years ago Mark Chambers left for the Crossmen. They've also had program designers change: Guidry and Nix are both gone now as well.
