  1. In addition, would it not be in the director's best interests to ensure students in their programs are sucessful academically? After all, students that fail cannot participate. I challenge the parent to find a band director who does not want the students in his or her program to suceed academically.

Being a graduate from Cedar Park myself, I can say this is true for my school as well as the other schools in the district. If there was ever a need to miss marching rehearsal for school related issues, no questions are asked... the directors want students to pass.

Since I have a little background on this issue, I might also point out that one of the parents in the article suggested counting travel time to football games, football games, and travel times to contests against the 8 hour rule. Uhh... not so much!

As far as family vacations are concerned, I don't see how that differs from any other part of high school. You can't just leave school for a "trip with the family" or "weekend off" as the parent in the article put it. If you want to plan ahead of time, great! Most band programs put out a calendar for the year before marching season starts. Use it.

    [/end rant] :)

  2. It has come to our attention that the original 4A state list for predictions had an error. Friendswood and Dickinson were merged together as one school.

If you submitted a predictions list for UIL 4A State before this message was posted, you can delete your old list to submit a new one.

    Two things to note:

-If you delete your old list, don't forget to make a new one. The old list is deleted as soon as you click the link on the page above.

-If you don't repredict, you will still be scored on your old list. However, you will not receive credit for Friendswood or Dickinson.

  3. That stinks that ya'll were boo'ed. I face-planted in the middle of the field while skipping off(I'm from Cedar Park). It's funny that the Duncanville DMs were rude and ya'll ended up scoring higher than them.

It's always unfortunate when a few students can represent the whole band program negatively. It easily happens in uniform. I do remember some boos and negative comments from a few Duncanville kids at state in 2004. Too bad...

  4. The results have been corrected and scores were recalculated.

For clarification, the official results are posted online at http://www.twhsband.com/Boosters/Fundraise...final_recap.htm and the caption results are as follows:

Outstanding Music Performance: 17.95 Brazoswood HS

Outstanding Visual Performance: 16.25 College Park HS and Hendrickson HS

Outstanding General Effect: 48.30 Brazoswood HS

Outstanding Drum Line: 16.70 Spring HS

Outstanding Auxiliary: 17.80 Oak Ridge HS

The only questionable issue is the Visual tie between TWCP and Hendrickson. For the purpose of TxBands predictions, Hendrickson is considered the winner of the visual caption because their overall score is higher. Spring was indeed the winner of the percussion caption.
