basson Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 found this thread almost 20 years later, I have 2 days til region and I know I'm not making it. Quote
Lolam Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 As if this contest means anything. College/university is where it's at and plenty of All-Staters fail out of music school. Quote
criscubes Posted August 28, 2025 Posted August 28, 2025 4A student Since beginner band, I've never made it past region auditions, so for 6 years I just tried out and got a couple chairs from honor band. Sophomore year I was first alternate for the region band, but with my horrible luck, no one skipped our so I wasn't able to go. Last year, out of nowhere, I got first alternate for all-state which I've never even come close. Hopefully this year, since it's my last year, I can make all-state and finally accomplish something. 🥲 ElectricTuba 1 Quote
SharksAreCool Posted August 28, 2025 Posted August 28, 2025 I have just a general question. What do you guys think is the hardest instrument room to make region with? Personally for me I think it probably be basson or oboe but let me know what you think. Quote

I personally think it’s English horn/contra bassoon since it’s only 1 per area which is pretty dang hard to do plus you have to send in recordings for it rather than normal area audition which can be nerve wrecking 😭 SharksAreCool 1 Quote

They always have small allocation to region and area. But, if you’re in 5A, good luck lol. Almost every instrument has an allocation of 1 to state with the exception of one area. Quote
