mnkyman Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 if u dont know what it is ...its when u can hold a note for ...minutes..(record i believe is like 5 hours set on an alto sax) its were your breathing through your nose and exausting the air out of your mouth...creating a "circular motion" can anyone here do it? Quote
Xenon Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I haven't practiced it very much, but I can only do it for 2 or 3 circulations, and not consistently at that. Quote
itsstephenyo Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 im ok at it. truthfully... its kind of a useless skill. there are very few instances when u need to hold ur note for 5 hours. Quote

But there are quite a few instances when you might need to do it during long fast runs where you wouldn't normally get a chance to breathe. I've mostly seen Bassoon players doing it though. Bassoon solos can get absolutely crazy. Quote
davidpowell Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 I can do it, but not horribly well while playing, I lose support when I exhale with my cheeks. I saw Sergei Nakariakov (ridiculous trumpet player) do it during some really fast runs, and he did it extremely quickly, so if you didn't know about circular breathing, you wouldn't know he had done it. bored2damax Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Ok ive known about circular breathing but i can never seem to figure out how to do it. So how do you keep air going out your mouth while your trying to tak in some air through your nose??? Quote
bored2damax Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Never mind i found a web page that explains how to do it. The webpage is http://www.woodwind.org/clarinet/Study/Cir...rBreathing.html Quote
TRtrumpet Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 I can barely do it.. .not consitantly at all though. Its not something I tend to practice every day at. Quote
Fortisimo Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 I can do it on sustained notes, but I've never really tried it on runs or anything like that... Quote
mnkyman Posted January 12, 2006 Author Posted January 12, 2006 so ever since i posted this thread yesterday..ive been practicing to try to learn how to circular breathe ..i can circular breathe without an instrument at my face..but cannot with an instrument.. i cant get to air it take to play with the pushing of my cheeks.. anyone who can do it...pointers? Quote
acsc1312 Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 I usually do it if I know there is an important part coming up, or I'm not supposed to breathe at a certain point. I usually do it during marching season...I started really doing it when I was a sophomore I think. Once I got the hang of it, it became easier and easier. ummm....just keep practicing it if you can't do it right now, it'll come to you eventaully...trust me Quote
