mnkyman
if u dont know what it is ...its when u can hold a note for ...minutes..(record i believe is like 5 hours set on an alto sax) its were your breathing through your nose and exausting the air out of your mouth...creating a "circular motion" can anyone here do it? Xenon
I haven't practiced it very much, but I can only do it for 2 or 3 circulations, and not consistently at that.
itsstephenyo
im ok at it. truthfully... its kind of a useless skill. there are very few instances when u need to hold ur note for 5 hours.
Xenon
its kind of a useless skill. there are very few instances when u need to hold ur note for 5 hours. But there are quite a few instances when you might need to do it during long fast runs where you wouldn't normally get a chance to breathe. I've mostly seen Bassoon players doing it though. Bassoon solos can get absolutely crazy.
davidpowell
I can do it, but not horribly well while playing, I lose support when I exhale with my cheeks. I saw Sergei Nakariakov (ridiculous trumpet player) do it during some really fast runs, and he did it extremely quickly, so if you didn't know about circular breathing, you wouldn't know he had done it. bored2damax
Ok ive known about circular breathing but i can never seem to figure out how to do it. Fortisimo
I can do it on sustained notes, but I've never really tried it on runs or anything like that...

acsc1312
I usually do it if I know there is an important part coming up, or I'm not supposed to breathe at a certain point. I usually do it during marching season...I started really doing it when I was a sophomore I think. Once I got the hang of it, it became easier and easier. ummm....just keep practicing it if you can't do it right now, it'll come to you eventaully...trust me
