Area B Marching Contest

Recommended Posts

yes i do believe frisco has been improving drastically but i dont think they improved drastically enough to go into state. maybe they would slip into finals. if they do make 4th place and advance to state that would mind blowing and the world would b shocked and say that frisco is the city to go for marching. i mean look at wakeland... only a 4 year marching band program and look where they r now

Frisco ISD would dominate music if given the chance to grow to 5A. Centennial before they cut it in half and opened Liberty was on the verge of being unstoppable with a program filled with over 300 band kids. It's such a shame to see such potential get cut down every few years because the ISD decides to open a new school.

and they are putting in even more high schools n frisco ISD. splitting up wakeland and liberty. i mean if there was only 2 high schools n Frisco, Centennial and Frisco, both would b 5a and unstoppable

Yup. It already happened to Liberty. Heritage High School opened this year as a 3A Sub-Non Varsity band and the numbers in the Liberty band stayed basically stagnant rather than expanding, which they had the potential to do... Wakeland is hit next at the end of the year when Lone Star High School opens....

Yeah, it's just not right or fair....

ANYWAYS, back on topic...

Anybody see any other Dark Horses that haven't been mentioned for finals?

umm i think that some of the bands not mentioned have a chance because the other bands will blow them off and the judges will be shocked so they will get a huge point jump

yes but you have to also agree that judges r gonna expect good things for the bands they have heard and did well n the past sooo they already have a high number n their head before the bands actually perform

that is true but if they have a bad show the judges have the points drop fast because they know what the band can do

So basically I'm here at the competition and i plan on updating during most of prelims, especiay during the first block in how things are going.... Btw it's an effing amazingly beautiful day for a band competition.

So Wakeland is first (time to kill the queen!):

kinda looks like a painful entrance having to march over a random median. I hope not every band has to do this....

I didn't know prerecorded music was allowed....

Some issues with blend in the trumpet section and horns

intonation needs a bit if work but all the sets are making pretty well

more upper body strength needed in jazz runs and slower marching

some pretty difficult ballet from the brass during the ballad. Executed well

guard is amazing btw

flute tuning is tending to blow sharp

I love the back visuals from the drumline.

Balane during the big moments is way toooo top heavy.

Trumpets!!!! Bahhhh sticking out.

Good last note. Well balanced and tuned nearly perfectly

Up next is birdville! Let's see what this group has this year!

Prettyyyyy guard uniforms.

The guy behind me is clapping perfect 8th note subdivisions of the bands entrance tempo....

Oohh swaying for opening set.

LOVE the musical selection!

Timing issues in 8th notes of low brass.

Intonation needs work in horns.

Excellent marching fundamentals.

Flat trombone soloist.

Guard flags during ballad bother me cus they're the exact same design as the uniorm....

More climax needed, and needs to be lead by the lower voices.

Good rifle technique from guard

closes with more swaying....

So far Wakeland wins the music side, while birdville wins matching caption

tuning of in woodwind parts of ballad

just wondering does prelim rankings mean anything, b/c isn't finals they have random order?

preliminary rankings really don't mean much outside of who makes finals and who doesn't. But you still get placed. Also in finals, they change judges around so the rankings can totally flip flop.

Also this is just my honest opinion based on how scoring for area goes
