TRtrumpet Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 So last night at the football game we played a school called "San Diego"... pretty big band. I dont know the exact numbers, but im guessing maybe around 60 or 70? Every time we would play a song, not even 10 seconds into the song, they would start playing the same song back at us. It would realy screw us up to kus they have more than twice as many pple as us. .... i mean, if your gonna play the same song back at us, at least wait till were done playing the song. This went on with most of the songs we did. I just think it was a little un neccesary kus they know they can play louder or over power us, especialy when thay have more than twice as many pple as us. At least our football team won Anything like this ever happen to anyone else? Quote
tigger2 Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 That's REALLY rude and their dir should not have incourged it. Quote
BlinK Day 41 Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 That's pretty bad i'm glad most bands can't overpower us around here i know down south they make em bigger but for my area we're pretty big. Anyways back to the point i agree the BD was being very irresponsible allowing his kids to do that it's just unsportmanslike Quote
Clarinot Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 That isn't a good thing for a director to do... band is supposed to teach you life lessons, etc Quote
RMyers Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 Well, I do agree that the other BD was in the wrong. There was a life lesson taught: In this world there are people who are pricks. And that the "little guy" (smaller band) got picked on by the bigger bully. Quote
gavinrh Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Yea we had a hey song battle with denton last night and it was frickin awesome!!!! Quote
MisterNick Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Song battles can be fun when it's done in good spirit, but it does get out of hand when one band tries to overplay the other. The ones that lose is the audience, some of whom actually like hearing the bands play. Quote
Xukaniz Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 The other band played the same songs we did every time we played. Too bad we always played them better >< Quote
TRtrumpet Posted September 10, 2005 Author Posted September 10, 2005 yea I agree that they can be fun to if the other band at least waits till your done playing the song instead of tryin to drown you out. Quote
mnkyman Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 wow thtas not even cool...what a tard bd they must of had well..#'s dont always matter our girls basketball team won state..last year and so the mayor had invited us...and 2 other schools who had won state for something.. us and another scool brought bands..and well we are a good # of 200 (we dont try to blast or over play...heck we could care less what the other band is playing)....but the other band was about 30..( u know those bands that all they do is blast and go to competitions like battle of the bands)...well they had 1 susaphone (sp?)...and well that 1 susa was able to severly blast to the point of covering our band..(we dont try to match them...we have no reason to prove to them anything)..well either way...i feel sorry for that susas lips...i mean he was playing so freakin loud u can hear his bell rattling Quote
TRtrumpet Posted September 10, 2005 Author Posted September 10, 2005 well they had 1 susaphone (sp?)...and well that 1 susa was able to severly blast to the point of covering our band..(we dont try to match them...we have no reason to prove to them anything)..well either way...i feel sorry for that susas lips...i mean he was playing so freakin loud u can hear his bell rattling LMAO. thats freakin halarious. actualgirltrombone Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 We had a metal shop war last night... but we didn't actually play metal shop at the same time. Later. And much louder. The funny thing was... the other band had their woodwinds playing metal shop. And we STILL pwned them! Quote
TRtrumpet Posted October 2, 2005 Author Posted October 2, 2005 We had another song battle with George West today. This time it was a friendly battle... lol. It was with "they hey song" Quote
supermanuel Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 i love Hey Song battles! that's the onl song we'll do it with and it's usually Clear Lake. we usually end up not playing after the 4th round and doing the whole "WE GOT SPIRIT" thing, but we'll see how it goes this year, we're playing them on tuesday. Quote
Cheese Addict Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 this was a funny game , we would play a song then they would play the same, then they would play song and we repeat it . It was fun Quote
bored2damax Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 We never have song battles and we dont really care about the other band and sometimes the football game. Our drumline just play cadences and we just party the whole time especially on one of the cadences were each person on the drumline battle each other. Quote
Majic Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 The only experience I've seen with song "battles" per say, is the other band playing back "Hey Baby," or the occasional trombone section that's also pinned down a rendition of low rider. But hey, they don't have a crazy **** sousaphone joining in, adding sparatic improv for comedic relief, so it's all good. Funny sousaphone story, though: I was at a football game for another school in town, and they were playing Spruce high school. Now, Spruce was a good ol' inner city Dallas school, but the 30 person band was pretty damned entertaining. Not by quality, exactly, but by production value. When the band uniform consists of XXXL t shirts, and the stands repetoire equates to hip hop drum beats couple with a pair of ridiculously loud, blasting sousaphones, it's hard not to nod along. Sort of reminded me of that god awful Drumline movie. Quote
chickora Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 I agree with most people that song battles are fun to an extent... I don't think it was very nice of them to play while you were playing.. At least let yall finish or something. Quote
cookie_monster Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 we do song battles occasionally but it's always after the other band finishes their song and it's not every song that they play. I think it's just a fun friendly competition with the other band. Of course it can get taken over board and do it way too much and interupt the other band's playing and I find that rude but other than that it's just a friendly contest...if you even want to call it that. Quote
mafia575 Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 we get into song battles with "Land of 1000 dances" its crazy!we had a band at one game that kept playing it and egging us on so after about the 4th time we played it our director finally called it up so we played it about 80 beats faster(at least) waaaaay better and owned them! it was great! but on the original topic thats one of those bands that needs to get their head out of their __________ (insert word here). vikingtrumpet17 Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 song battles are freakin awesome. we have our battles with several bands around this area. pretty cool. but i dont think its right when you have a little band being overpowered by a much bigger band. but when the bands are about the same size or at least BIG then its all fair game. Quote
Band Of Champions Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 I think it's cool to let the other side play and then start when they're done. Quote
stewiemylove Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 We do that. A lot. There is this one song our school plays, and if I remember corredctly, it was actually written by a former student at the school. Anyway, when other bands start playing that song, we always play it back. and we win. OHHH and last year, we marched The Planets, and so one school played the Mars Impact theme to us in the stands. then we played it back. and won again. Quote
