The director of Haltom went to Bell.

xD

No offense to anyone, but what a slap in the face. :\

hahah

that's how i felt when our head director left us for Wylie.

made it even worse they beat us by one place at the only contest we saw them at last year.

but it is what it is, and everything happens for a reason :D

i've been lucky, haven't experienced a change except adding a new one this year

It really isn't as horrible as I jsut made it sound.

Last year was a "transition" year and we still did quite well.

And our assistant director became head director and we got a new assistant who is pretty much a genius

so all in al lim happy with how it turned otu

Agreed.

And I mean, I think anyone would give to be a director of music at LD Bell.

I would.

Yeah all I can say about ours is it's titled "insomnia"

and includes works like grahams "harrison's dream"

by far the most difficult music we've had.

and no idea on drill

although we're supposedly moving to more "contemperary" band

because we've always been very traditional. no props and such

You had props in Spotlights.

Haha, I'd say the dots counted as props.

But that's cool. I don't mind props, as long as they are used well.

I focus more on drill. There are traditional and more modern styles of drill, too.

Both can be exciting, but it just depends on how well it is written.

what pieces?

I have yet to hear Concerto for Orchestra and Music for Strings Percussion and Celeta on the marching field.

Whoa. You're missing out.

Marching band wise----Spring's show in 2001 contained music from Bela Bartok's "Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celeste" and "Concerto for Orchestra." A VERY underrated show....one of my favorites from 2001. I can't find a video, but I highly recommend finding their Finals performance the 2001 BOA Houston Regional.

Like someone said earlier, The Woodlands also did Bartok's "Concerto for Orchestra" in their 2006 "Hide and Seek" show. Another fantastic show.

In drum corps, Star of Indiana did "Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celeste" in 1993.

I didn't like the woodlands that year...

Don't hate me for it please :D

They did a good arrangement of the Fianle-Pesante/Presto ; Bartok music is hard to arrange.

Star of Indiana did an ok job with the Allegro movement, but i liked the Allegro Molto Movement.

I like marching bands that do diffcult music that few other people have played.

I'm also waiting to hear Shostakovich's 11th symphony on the feild as well. The second or even fourth movement could go really well.

But seriously.

I hope I don't hear Turandot Scherzo again. I've heard that (or references to) 15,000 times. Same thing with the Fugue from Britten's Young Guide to the Orchestra.

yeah.

I can only think of three shows where we had props for us.

2003

2006

and 2007. (Iswear-we had more trouble dealing with those props than some parts of the drill.

I don't remember richland having props in 03... we had huge ones in 02 that everyone hid behind though!
