Quite frankly, it’s honestly insane that a school like Reedy can beat Sachse, the former 6A Area C Champion. It’s a shame that Reedy doesn’t have enough conversations about potentially getting a state spot, but I know that it’s a competitive area. I think it’s time for Frisco ISD to take a page out of Leander ISD’s book and have a couple of schools in 6A to spread the love.

Just imagine if Wakeland and Lone Star moved up to 6A and freed up a couple of state spots for other Frisco ISD/non-FISD schools to have a chance in the Alamo Dome.

Correct me if i’m wrong but aren’t Reedy and Wakeland (and WG) very close to being 6A? Will they move up next year?

I could see this being applicable here so i’ll send it:

BOA Prosper Prelim Scores NO GE

  1. Marcus H.S. - 35.225
  2. Coppell H.S. - 34.200
  3. Wakeland H.S. - 33.850
  4. Forney H.S. - 33.050
  5. Southlake Carroll H.S. - 32.775
  6. Lone Star H.S. - 32.450
  7. McKinney H.S. - 32.300
  8. Wylie H.S. - 32.275
  9. Prosper H.S. - 31.950
  10. Walnut Grove H.S. - 31.725
  11. Lebanon Trail H.S. - 31.525
  12. Burleson Centennial H.S. - 31.500
  13. Braswell H.S. - 31.475
  14. Rockwall H.S. - 31.275
  15. McKinney North H.S. - 31.000
  16. Rock Hill H.S. - 30.600
  17. Rick Reedy H.S. - 30.450
  18. Little Elm H.S. - 30.025
  19. Liberty H.S. - 29.850
  20. Rockwall-Heath H.S. - 29.750
  21. Melissa H.S. - 28.600
  22. Commerce H.S. - 25.500
  23. Whitesboro H.S. - 25.400

BOA Prosper sure was crazy! There were quite a few unexpected results (Mckinney North at 20?!) with General Effect. But I think a few of these are actually in the wrong spot. I just rechecked the math, and there were a few slight, but surprising errors, here's the updated math with all the bands that participate in Area B!

1. Wakeland (33.85) The same (Blinding props, my Lord. Amazing sound and clean as always)

2. Lone Star (32.45) The same. But wow, what powerful sound. I love their theme and the soloists are fantastic.

3. Lebanon Trail (32.325) Above Walnut Grove. (Such fantastic visuals, I love their show.)

4. Walnut Grove (31.725) BELOW Lebanon Trail, not above. (Interesting theme, definitely a dark horse.)

5. McKinney North (30.8) (Slightly below their last score, very surprising placing but maybe I understand it a little? Excited to see how they do at area.)

5. Liberty (29.85) Above Reedy (Another very surprising band. Outperforming Mckinney North on the BOA Sheets and beating Reedy without including GE is fantastic! Love to see it for this band, can't wait to see how they do at Area.)

6. Reedy (29.45) BELOW Liberty, not above. (Haven't seen much of their show but I've only heard good things. Clearly doing well under their new director and I'm eagerly waiting to see the results in this bloodbath of an area.)

7.  Melissa (28.6) The same. (Hello Melissa! Very visually clean and packs a very nice brass sound too! Definitely a dark horse.)

Pretty small changes but really surprising. Way to go Liberty! Walnut Grove also did really well, with their individual music score being top 5-6 overall. (Wow!) Obviously, BOA scoring is different and this isn't accounting for GE and the other subcaptions that UIL accounts for, but even with the inclusion, there were definitely a few shockers.

How did i mess up this bad 😭 Thank you for the correction much appreciated 🙏

Yes, but Frisco ISD would rather spend tens of millions to build a new high school, than even let one school in the district go 6A. They’ve come close several times, but either they redistrict or build a completely new school. I’d be surprised if any of them ever actually became 6A.

100% agree, Frisco is VERY against going 6A. Walnut Grove will probably be 6A next year though

They can only avoid it for so long, though. There’s not much more room in the city to build a new school, and they haven’t done so in time for the next alignment. This coming year, I think, breaks that barrier and we see the first few grow to 6A. Along with McKinney North (who was extremely close last cycle) and WG.

Not to discredit anyone, but, I don’t think we should use results from September to determine how a band is… a LOT can change from then, some people could have harder shows that take longer to clean, some people could have less put together, etc etc. A notable example of this was when rouse beat vandergrift back in 2023 at boa Austin, but in their respective classification come state, vandy got the title 6A and rouse was top 3 5A?

FISD has said they do not want any 6A schools In their district, its the reason there are about 13 high schools. They plan to transfer/bus students to the newer schools if schools like Wakeland or Reedy reach capacity.

People on the football forums have mentioned that they think the 6A cutoff could go down this year for the first time in a while due to many schools losing enrollment.  That could make things interesting for the Frisco schools.

Right… that’s why I included them separately along with McKinney North. They’re in the same region

my personal predictions for this area:

1. lone star - tubalord glaze

2. wakeland - kinda fractured visuals

3. liberty - very cool visuals, statebound, love the sax quartet, could use some more bari

4. LT - dr seuss kinda show, cool sound

5. the colony - lowkey an up year for them, might win state!

6. argyle - wheat, really? (farmers village ahh show) ewheat ball knowledge

7. MN - overused and fell off🥱 jazz show #275974269053

8. independence - phenomenal marching technique and woodwind contribution, could use some more volume on the tuba solo. very strong dark sound.

9. Reedy - don’t really understand the abstract theme

10. Walnut grove - lowkey not a fan of water 💦 i prefer cocacola

11. Heritage - could make state if they had more passion

1-3 locks

4-11 anything can happen

frisco, memorial, centennial, emerson in bubble, memorial could slide in tho

Holy skew!! I can udnerstand 1-2 and the MN hate but Liberty above LT is staight criminal, Liberty is a great program but lebanon trail has a phenominal show that will clear most of these finalists. And remove the WG hate, we know you drink sparkling water 😆

1. Wakeland (not the best wakeland show ive seen but opener is fire and they play well)

2. Lone Star (brass takes the cake)

3.LT( deserved state spot)

4.Argyle/MN(north could be down due to dirty visuals, very entertaining show but not clean. 20th at prosper below liberty and above melissa means they could be in trouble!!)

5-6th.MN/Reedy(can see reedy doing really well time will tell)

7th. Independence( that brass wants the smoke this year!!! Although I am not a fan of the copied arrangements from Bella Machaneique, I do like the show, visually clean as well!)

8th-9th.WG/TC(Both are good programs but I am not personally fond of either's show to much)

10th - Heritage(VERY CLEAN it amazed me!! much improvement made!)

Bubbles:

Memorial(bigger sound and fix dirty drill), Melissa(clean spacing pls), Emerson(if they clean visuals)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anything can happen these next three weeks, for all I know, Denison could come out of nowhere and destroy the compeition if they work hard! But 1-4 are locks and 5-bubbles are guesses, once region finishes i can make my final prediction. But I am amazed by the progression majority of these programs have made. Independence sound is so much richer and bigger, LT has amazing music and visual blend, and Heritage marches like gold. Also to add that Melissa could begin to be the dark horse of this area. I watched their prelims run on youtube and wow the improvment is evident, still some minor induvidual errors and spacing but musically it is very good and big. Big kudos to these programs for keeping me entertained!!

i'm SUPER excited for LT this year. everytime I see them, they just keep getting better and better... Argyle is also really good this year, I think they can get 4th... (that doesn't stray away from the fact that mn is also awesome this year too!!)

Kind of off topic lol but you mentioned this not being your favorite Wakeland show. Got me thinking whats everyone's favorite show from each of these bands

With a little over 2 weeks till the area, this is going to be a tough battle for all bands in this area. To which I could see a lot of these placements change.

My predictions:

1. Wakeland ( Very good, looks like one of their best years in a while.)

2. Lonestar ( Another really good band, could even beat Wakeland, but who knows, love their great job Lonestar!)

3. McKinney North ( Really enjoyable show, placed 20th at Prosper, but from what I heard, it wasn't a great run for them; they usually get really clean last minute, and I doubt this year will be an exception. But could see them getting 4th or 5th.)

4. Lebanon Trail ( Love the show, love what y'all are doing, and love how y'all show up when it counts, could definitely see them higher or lower, really depends on their run and other bands' run that night.)

5. Argyle ( Show is fantastic, and very well performed. I could see them getting 4th or 3rd, but similar to Lebanon Trail and McKinney North, it depends on their runs.)

6.  Walnut Grove ( With them beating Reedy at Prosper, I see them getting 6th love what they are about, and can't wait to see them in a few weeks.)

7. Independence ( Some pretty good visuals, I enjoy the show and the idea of it, and some killer brass, but definitely a possibility of them getting 6th or even 8th.)

8. Reedy (I'm curious about where they could be placed. I haven't seen them much, but from what I have seen, it looks pretty good, and I wouldn't be surprised if they get 7th. It will be fun to watch. Great job!)

9. The Colony ( Amazing band, I like the woodwinds sound pretty good. Could get 10th, but I'm confident they will pull through.)

10. Heritage ( Decently clean visually, like what they got going for them. I'm not sure how they will do here, but it will be fun to watch.)

I can see these changing around. But it depends on what performances they do now until their show time on November 1st. This is just a rough estimate of what I could see happen. 1-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 7-10 could change. It depends on who gets more reps in these few weeks. Great job to all bands, and I wish everyone the best of luck in their future endeavors.

I've seen  McKinney North  twice at competitions and as much as I would like to see them that high up i don't see it.... they music is amazing the students do a great job performing but it's segmented to small ensembles throughout they show it's not as cohesive as last years.... this where i can  see Reedy, independence and even emerson sneaking in..... i see McKinney North in 5th or 6th....
