I got there late and missed most of the bands but I was blown away by Lebanon Trail! It was pretty dirty at times (I know it’s early in the season) but they have a cool concept. If they can polish the heck out of that show, I think they can move up. After watching the second half of the showcase last night, I think Panther Creek is going to struggle when they move up to 5A.

I agree, Panther Creek was somewhat underwhelming.

I also agree with most people here saying that Reedy and Emerson are going to do very good, and LT will as long as they can clean up

This season, the 4th-7th spots are going to be extremely fun to watch. Maybe a new school or a school that hasn't been in years makes state this season?

I think this year will be the year North and/or Argyle loses that spot. In my opinion it could be both, North is repeating the same show for the whatever time and Argyle‘s design is a little odd personally. Nonetheless both great performers and ensembles but this is the year I think we see a shift in the 3-7 spots, whether it be LT again or a new school like Reedy, Walnut, or Emerson

I personally love the jazz shows and find them probably some of the most entertaining out of the bands here. Just unsure about how they will score since they are so much more “abstract” than other shows

Just saw their show at the band night, they do have the ramps, but this show is a very different flavor of jazz. I think its too difficult to be clean early season but by area its going to be really really good. Anyone who says this show is copy paste will have to be hating

After seeing the Frisco Showcase, how are predictions looking like? A lot of bands seem to be bringing the heat this year more than they have in the past. Independence, and Reedy really surprised me. Wakeland and Lonestar were amazing as always. I don't really like Lebanon Trail's theme but they performed it beautifully, I'm excited to see how these shows turn out at the end of the season. Liberty, Memorial, and Emerson were really cool too and I hope they can make finals this year. Here are mine.

1. Lone Star (Wakeland is really clean this year too but Lone Star really wowed me and I really want to see them at the top)

2. Wakeland (It's Wakeland, cmon)

3. Argyle (Really interesting show theme, can't wait to see it performed)

4. LT/MN (I think LT has the edge this year, especially considering their defeat last year)

5. LT/MN (Either or)

6. Reedy/Walnut/Liberty/Emerson (All four of these bands I've heard great things about and I honestly think it could unfold any way with new judging and more balanced sheets.)

7. Walnut/Liberty/Reedy/Emerson

8. Liberty/Walnut/Emerson/Reedy

9. Emerson/Reedy/Walnut/Liberty

10. Independence? Memorial? The Colony? Heritage?(This was a coin toss but I've heard Independence is really bringing it this year. Heritage could bring it back another year, same thing with Memorial, and the Colony has a really good chance of placing well too.

Let me hear y'alls opinions and what y'all would change.

honestly it could go either way for ls and wakeland, they both are really good this year but i'm rooting for ls too

I have seen shows from both Frisco and McKinney showcase so here are my personal takes:

Lone star is doing good per usual, woodinds are being put to work. Visually better but still can be awesome. Like the theme now that it is put together.

Wakeland is on fire!! That opener sent chills down my spine. They have a more aggressive show compared to last year which I really like and the drill is spot on.

Emerson is doing  AWESOME those props and drill correlate with the theme which is nice. I just want a little more color in the music. It sounded a lot plain when I heard it. But they are doing great

Independence has a brass section locked in. I cant fathom how much they have improved! Very big sound and visually is coming together

Memorial is kinda dissapointing tbh, they lost a lot of students and their visual needs a lot of work and tlc. But the trombone soloist is sounding majestic.

Liberty is doing even better than after the Melissa game. Very clean visually and definietly a dark horse. They need more power and they go it.

I did not get the chance to watch Reedy, LT, Heritage etc. but I hope they are doing great.

Now for the elephant in the room. I personally loved Mckinney North's show last year. Best jazz show they have done, loved that ballad and the screamer trumpet. Celestial Nights is pretty catchy and very big sound. But I am not a fan of the repeated use of props and unis and vocalists. It feels too redundant regardless of the orignal show and composition. They are doing visually okay for september but not much marching is being done. I am not hating on the program or the show but I do not like the fact that its another jazz show. Now for the user who mentioned Flower Mound and Woodlands, yes Woodlands always does jazz shows but they are always new and unique. From Spanish Jazz to BD22 music. As for Flomo they are too creative to be redundant. I believe North will score well but I would personally not send them to state.

I still need to see Walnut Grove and Anna and Lovejoy before I can make predictions

I think that 6-8 spot is firmly WG/Reedy/Emerson (in any order) NOT considering if one of them sneaks into that 5 or 4 spot. Liberty Heritage and all of them are very impressive, but I think will fall short of what they had last year (but who knows anything could happen so they could by all means make it with the right work!) and I think the 9/10 slot will be between Colony/Liberty/Indy

I second the Wakeland opener hype, very excited to see this show in person.

I agree! emerson has a great show this year and their execution is really good. I'm curious about what you guys thought about liberty's show this year? they seemed to be a surprise finalist in this area beating memorial, heritage, walnut, and emerson.

Honestly, I think Norths music this year is strong, major jump in content/difficulty aside I personally think this is their strongest showcase in music even if I liked last years overall progression more.

I dont like the drill, the brass and woodwinds march in their pods for most of the first 4 minutes besides a couple sets. I wish there was more integration and use of the whole field, but for what it is its servicable for where North places. Im not too bothered by props and use of members since thats all budgetary and the programs decision to utilize their talent whenever possible, you cant blame them for trying to budget responsibly and use what they have to the limit.

Any new predictions after first round of comps?

Honestly, this is going to be brutal. Reedy winning Wylie over some pretty good 6A bands, and Independence not far behind in 2nd, and Lovejoy in 9th. Melissa competition having Lone Star in 2nd, LT in 4th, Argyle in 5th, Mckinney North in 8th, and Liberty in 12th. Wakeland got 2nd (behind Marcus) at HEB. Emerson got 2nd at Plano East, with Heritage behind in 3rd. Walnut Grove won Mansfield.

Great representation from this Area today, and if I had to guess as of now -- Probably Lone Star, Wakeland, Reedy, and LT??? But again, way to early to tell, everyone looks and sounds good. This is going to be an entertaining development.

EDIT: I know there are more results, I'm just exhausted rn.

I’m not going to make a list but I’ll do a tier ranking based on how yesterday went:

Locks to state: Wakeland, Lone Star

3-9 in any order that could make state: argyle, reedy, independence, Lebanon trial, McKinney north, Emerson, Walnut Grove.

10th: Liberty, Memorial, Lovejoy, Melissa

we definitely will have a better understanding of placements after McKinney bc a lot of frisco schools+ argyle are going but it seems like this year will be extremely insane

I believe melissa will also be at MMI, so should be helpful to understand a lot of Area B 5A
